What do people really rate ? Mascara wise?

I switched to Sisley rituals hair recently after a thread on here ( total game changer wish I’d found their shampoo years ago ). And I wondered if I’m missing out on a great mascara too ? So I thought I’d ask the great hive mind of Mumsnet.

I always end up with maybelline lash sensational which is…ok. But just that - ok. I really want that holy grail of lengthening and curling and staying power and am prepared to pay for the right one. I’ve tried the tubing mascaras and I don’t get the hype at all - they just didn’t do anything for me. what’s your best one that you return to? Expensive or cheap - I don’t care ad long as it works.

The best mascara I have ever used. Perfect in every way!

I used Lancôme mascara for years but I found the most recent one I got quite clumpy. Felt like the wand just bunched my lashes together. So, I bought Vieve and it’s amazing. Lasts well I have oily skin so have used waterproof for years, but not issues with panda eyes. Gorgeous packaging, wand is amazing and my lashes looked amazing. Total convert!

I second Maybelline Lash sensational.
I need a good waterproof one.
DD uses MAC
Just Googled the shampoo! Think I’ll stick to John Frieda especially on 3 for 2 at Boots. Glad you love it though OP.

My fave at the minute is Charlotte tilbury Exaggereyes mascara. Although I always top whatever mascara I'm using with NO 7 lash impact serum as it makes any mascara unsmudgeable

Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara.

Charlotte Tilbury Push Up Lashes is my favourite. I’ll try any mascara and I always come back to this one.

I’m definitely overdue a catch up on Charlotte tilbury - I’ve never purchased from them but that new blur face powder looks excellent

I like Elf tubing mascara, stays put all day, no smudging and comes off with warm water

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/08/2026 17:53

I don't wear it but DD does ( she has amazing eyelashes unlike me)
Tarte ( I got her a set of five from QVC last year) she likes the tubing one
Or Two Faced Better than Sex

Any mascara only stays 3 months after opening.

Negroniextra · 30/08/2026 17:55

I used to use Lancôme mascara, I ran out and quickly needed to buy a new one for a night out - picked up a cheap ELF (XTNDR) one and have never bought Lancôme again!! The Elf one is great and about £7 x

Twisting · 31/08/2026 08:47

I'm a mascara whore, but I always come back to rimmed day to night. Used it for years and although maybelline falsies comes close, it leaves smudges.

Having been a La come Hypnose women for tee he past decade or so, I tried my daughter's Maybelline Sky High and have been converted. It is excellent on my lashes and easier to apply that the Hypnose. And...a third of the price or so.

I used to swear by Lancome with the primer underneath but I don’t think it’s as good as it used to be.

Im currently using UKLash tubing and it’s ok - they have recently brought out a primer so I might give that a go.

About to google the Sisley shampoo as didn’t even know they did hair products.

Not long till the Black Friday deals so I may add it to my wish list.

Interesting re Lancôme. I agree, sadly. It’s like they’ve overfilled the tube.

Sorry to hijack the thread but which shampoo is it - they do several and at that price I I don’t want to get the wrong one!

Babyputyourpantson · 31/08/2026 15:31

Benefit they're real or benefit bad girl I keep going back to!

Not at all !! Revitalising volume shampoo. I’m post menopausal with fine wavy hair/curly hair that’s not got much grey. It looked dull and flat at the roots. With this it’s shiny and full of volume even two or three days after washing and I barely use a five pence size but I massage it in and leave it to work for a minute. So even though expensive I think it’ll last. Maybe there’s samples you could order to try ?

Another vote for Exagereyes. Yet to find anything anywhere near as good.

My hair sounds very similar, thanks for the recommendation.

Yes, I’ll have a look on Vinted before I splash out - sometimes good for travel sizes and samples.

Lancôme Hypnose black mascara is the absolute best I’ve found.
