Face lift - how do they look to you?

Do you know IRL anyone who has had a full face lift Can you tell, how do they look after a few years?

I am specifically interested in the external view as I know we don’t always see ourselves as others see us.

However if you have had a full face lift/neck lift I would also be interested in your views.

I have looked at a lot of before and after but there is so much photo editing these days it’s hard to tell what is real and what isn’t.

My mum had one 30 years ago. She still looks great.

I know someone who has had two, lots of Botox, and their face is waxy/shiny, I have no idea why the skin is like that, or whether that's related to the face lift or to peels but it's put me off any such messing completely. I find it hard to look at their face, they also wear a lot of make-up and the whole effect is not flattering, plus the rest of the body tells the story. I honestly don't think a few wrinkles and a bit of sagging is the end of the world now.

I have seen tiny bits of surgery go quite well and the odd Botox forehead not look too weird, but it's very hard not to do everything and it's the everything that makes it all look so strange.

No longer tempted, doesn't look good in person, fine in photos and straight on and with make-up on.

No, no they don’t. Do you actually know anyone in real life that’s had it done?

My mother’s cousin, in the States. She had it done in her fifties, and had probable small tweaks since. She was a very pretty young woman and the face lift wasn’t terrible, but I think she looks better now as a much older lady of 90. It somehow didn’t make her look younger, she just looked like someone who’d had something done.
However she does have really beautiful skin having taken care of it and seen a dermatologist for decades, so that part has definitely paid off.

Really? I think she looks odd - it's not a natural look at all.. Someone on a recent similar thread said she thought Kylie looked great, but again, I think she's strayed into too much work territory. I think it's quite subjective.

Caroline Stanbury had one and it has left her looking like the wide-mouthed frog - way too much pulling outwards of her lips, so her mouth stretched across her face.

The best facelifts will always be the ones where you can't really tell what's gone on, but people look the best version of someone their age.

I worked with a lot of Americans who had had facelifts. They looked very odd. Somehow it doesn’t make you look any younger, but you find yourself staring trying to figure out what exactly is weird looking about their face.

I agree with this. I think it’s something about people’s eyes - not the wrinkles around the eyes, but the actual eyes.

However much surgery, Botox etc someone has had, their eyes are still eg 50 years old. And so you get this weird mismatch between 50 year old eyes and a face that’s had alot of money spent on it trying not to look like it’s 50 years old.

There was a lady of 39 who had a face lift . I thought she was 25! She names her surgeon.

I've worked in the beauty industry for 40 years. No facelift, no fillers. However my day cream is £200.
If you don't smoke, drink and stay out of the sun you don't need it.
However if you have the money why not?

In my youth I made up many famous ladies, all had facelifts. I can spot one a mile off.
They're called hospital corners!

I think JLo looks absolutely amazing but hers would have been over a quarter of a million!

The facelift doesn't usually cover the neck and that gives it away.
All the 50-70 year old stars have chicken neck. It's a thing. There was a piece in woman & home. All grown up glamour, all scraggy neck no matter how beautiful. June issue I think.
A scarf covers it up, Hermes hopefully!

My mother had a full face lift including eyes in her 70s and while I was not at all convinced it was a good idea beforehand, she looked amazing afterwards. Her surgeon said there’s no reason to look stretched and weird, you should just seem fresh and rested.

My mum is very petite and in my family we don’t wrinkle so much as sag and melt, so she had a lot of loose skin around her neck and jaw, which made her head look too big, and the surgery corrected that.

I know that sounds awful, she is lovely, it doesn’t sound nice when I try to explain what difference it made to how she looked. It was only apparent to me after the surgery what had changed. It changed the visual proportions of her whole body.

My friend had one about 7 years ago. I think it helped with the sagging skin. She didn’t look stretched or taught at all. On the contrary, I think the surgeon could have pulled a bit tighter! One thing she did notice was her nasolabial fold/wrinkle was pulled back to her front cheek. I wouldn’t have noticed this if my friend hadn’t pointed it out. She got some filler in it and I think this helped.

Exactly this. It’s the other stuff that makes someone look weird sometimes. A decent facelift is hardly noticeable, you just look a bit fresher.

But it isn’t to make people look younger, just like themselves again maybe. It’s to look a certain way, and even if they look a bit weird and odd then to them it’s better than wrinkles. Nobody looks younger after procedures, they look like their age but with something done.
I always think i’d have one but worried it would go wrong

I know someone who had one, it looked great initially after the swelling and bruising went down but now after 12 months it does not look good. It looks like too much taught skin that still says and no attached framework underneath if that makes sense. The scars are small but evident by the ears still

I'd love to have some work done. I don't necessarily want to look younger - just look as if I'd had a decent night's sleep. I don't mind looking 58 but I do mind looking knackered!

Yes and the face-lift makes her look younger and more rested. I think a good face-lift looks loads better than fillers in a saggy face.

Have you tried these ems devices? Ive got one and it definitely makes me look more rested . I dont think anything apart from a face-lift makes anyone look younger but ems definitely helps.

I think they can look really nice and more natural than fillers and botox but it really depends on the skill of the surgeon. My grandma had one in her 60s, the injections weren’t around then, and she looked good. It was like she still had wrinkles and a natural face but the sagging was gone. My mother has not had a face life but it getting laser treatments (look nice) and fillers. When she had the fillers I was shocked at how awful it looked but she loved it. It’s her choice! I am in my 50s and considering laser as it tightens thinks up but a crinkly neck (which I have) will never fully go away without surgery.

I think when you think of celebs that have had them, you only know about the bad ones that are obvious. I think celebs go too far.
