Face lift - how do they look to you?

Do you know IRL anyone who has had a full face lift Can you tell, how do they look after a few years?

I am specifically interested in the external view as I know we don’t always see ourselves as others see us.

However if you have had a full face lift/neck lift I would also be interested in your views.

I have looked at a lot of before and after but there is so much photo editing these days it’s hard to tell what is real and what isn’t.

My friend had one. She looked so MUCH better before. Not that I said that out loud.

Can I ask in what way? Did it look fake, wrong ?

Yes. She had a smiley, twinkly, real face before and now she looks like a melted candle.
Obviously I told her she looked great.

I knew a woman much older than me who had regular face-lifts. She looks lovely from a distance, but up close her face was alarmingly stiff and stretched. I hope modern surgical techniques are better, you don't see many of the very obvious old style face-lifts around now.

I thought it was supposed to cure the melted candle look! That’s the reason I want one! Not likely to actually do it cause I’d be too scared.

how long after the procedure did you see her?

Maybe a month.
I am probably the wrong person to ask. I think all procedures look terrible and I would like to look like my au natural mum as I age.😁
I don't want to look like Nicole Kidman or even Posh Spice. Really.

MyManinCaracas · 25/08/2026 11:23

My step-mother had one in her mid-50s and I thought she looked lovely and refreshed. She was always a pretty woman and I think the face-lift extended her youthful appearance.

Oh, she’s probably still got a lot of fluid and inflammation after just a month.

nutellaandbanana · 25/08/2026 11:26

I can't help noticing that even female celebs with all that money still have really odd looking faces as they age, presumably due to face lifts and such like. I reckon if with all their dosh, even they can't get a surgeon who helps them age well with a natural look, then what chance do I have?

nutellaandbanana · 25/08/2026 11:30

Having said that, I think Putin's face lift is quite good. I wonder who his surgeon is? 😁

I don't think there are any conventionally glam female celebs who look as I want to.
A lot of ppl would like to look like Jennifer Aniston, but really I don't.
That super smooth look would not fit into my life. I would like her body though.

EmmaStone · 25/08/2026 11:40

I think the problem is it's rarely just a facelift, there's usually all the other stuff that goes on too - Botox, fillers etc, and that overall look looks bad IMO. The best facelifts are the one you don't really notice, someone just looks refreshed - I seem to recall lots of fuss over Julie Christie admitting to having had one in the 90s, but noone had realised as it was so subtle.

I could tell you but I’d have to kill you 🤣

In my line of work I see quite a few women with facelifts. It doesn’t matter how good they look from the front, the side view is always a giveaway. I’d never have one for that reason.

Morepositivemum · 25/08/2026 11:54

I think some turn out ok but given the ratio oin Hollywood of ‘look awful’ vs ‘oh she looks really well’ I don’t know why anyone would. Also I remember on one of those reality tv channels there used to be a programme following a top surgeon dnd the way they talked about people’s faces, well do this this and this made me almost angry!!

namechange6766333545544 · 25/08/2026 11:57

I know someone who’s had one and she looks great, but her neck is definitely more lined than her face. I still think it was a successful surgery though.

Interesting

Franpie · 25/08/2026 12:13

I think the problem is that it’s always obvious when someone has had a face lift because you just can’t fake a youthful face no matter how taut and filled you make it.

And then when you compare the face to the neck or the chest or the hands, the face then looks weird and out of place because the other areas have aged naturally.

I’ve stopped having Botox for that reason. It’s great for a few little tweaks to combat premature lines in your late 30’s but by the time you’re into your late 40’s and beyond, having a line-free face just looks odd.

ETA: sorry, I missed out that yes my friend has had one. She went to the states for it (she’s American) and paid a fortune for apparently the best guy in NYC. If you were to take a snapshot of just her face without her hair or the rest of her body then yes, it looks great and probably knocks 10 years of her age of 55. But when you look at the whole package she looks like a 55 year old who’s had a facelift.

NeelyOHara · 25/08/2026 12:16

I know someone who had one done a few months ago, it looks amazing and I would never have guessed. 30k tho, I think you get what you pay for and they are getting better and better as techniques advance.
There has been a huge increase in demand with people using the jabs apparently.

SirenScream · 25/08/2026 12:18

I thought toya Wilcox looked good after her facelift but I think she had that in the 90s so she wasn't all that old.
Madonna looks increasingly strange she has that 'huge face' thing going on.
As for celebs who have had successful work, hmm....Jane Fonda springs to mind.

NeelyOHara · 25/08/2026 12:20

Madonna looks strange because she has way too much filler, it’s not the facelift. You don’t need filler with the new ones, they just do fat redistribution from your stomach or armpits to plump the face up. It looks way better.

NeelyOHara · 25/08/2026 12:21

Denise Richard’s facelift looks amazing.

AnitaCam · 25/08/2026 12:21

I knew a pretty older woman who had a face lift, she looked good. Lovely face. But… her body and posture Didnt match her face.. so it all screamed Cosmetic Surgery!!!! She was a bit overweight, a bit unfit, very Late middle aged typical. But then, this youthful face on top. Tricky! Also, her DH was clearly the same age as her body!

Quickchant · 25/08/2026 12:22

My neighbour had one a few years ago so maybe techniques have changed since but I just think she looks a bit odd. She looks amazing in photos though but in real life it is obvious she's had something done and I don't think it hides her real age.

Deadleaves77 · 25/08/2026 12:27

Personally I know a few people that have had face-lifts, I do think that they look good, but definitely like theyve had a face-lift. I guess in the same way someone with bleach blonde hair looks good but like theyve bleached their hair.

I think a lot of celebs have had a lot of work done, and theres a threshold you reach where the next procedure pushes you over into that overdone look. A lot of the time its not just one face-lift thats made them look like that
