Face lift - how do they look to you?

Do you know IRL anyone who has had a full face lift Can you tell, how do they look after a few years?

I am specifically interested in the external view as I know we don’t always see ourselves as others see us.

However if you have had a full face lift/neck lift I would also be interested in your views.

I have looked at a lot of before and after but there is so much photo editing these days it’s hard to tell what is real and what isn’t.

Its also hard when you know someone as you know what their face looked like before, you know how old they are. So when you see their post surgery face its just not what your expecting their face to look like, even if they look fantastic a changed face can be hard to adjust to.

I did not know Toyah had one? I met her and thought she looked great!

I look like a tortoise right now after a big weight loss. Im having a facelift in November. I used to be a nurse in a cosmetic surgery clinic so Ive chosen my surgeon very carefully.

A relative of mine had one. It looked good - maybe obvious she’d had a facelift (that’s hard for me to say because obviously I knew her before so it was obvious to me, I think probably obvious to people who didn’t know her) but she definitely didn’t look like she’d had a bad facelift.

She then had a second one. And that one was bad.

She wrote a book about it and I remember reading it, quite interesting she had it done in France.
So I just looked up and was surprised to read that she had it done when she was 45:
In February 2004, at age 45, she underwent a lower face and jawline lift, alongside corrective skin work around her eyes. The procedure was completed by a surgeon in Paris and cost approximately £7,500.

45!? I had no sagging or lines or anything at 45 that would have made me consider having a facelift

I know someone who had one a year ago. She was more wrinkled than she should have been for her age (don’t take up smoking youngsters), so from that perspective it’s returning her to the age she should look. If she stops there it will be fine but I suspect she won’t.

I remember how much I loved my grandmas, wrinkles and saggy chins and all. In fact especially their wrinkles and saggy chins. So I’ll not be having any facelifts or Botox myself.

She's had more than one.

Yes but he always looked a bit 'waxy' and hadn't the most expressive face . He was the kind 'whose face would crack if he smiled'.

These are my thoughts too, no hope for mere mortals when the likes of Nicole Kidman look such a mess.

Had to have dinner with one person I know who has had a facelift. Really hard to look at.

If I could guarantee looking like Jane Fonda in The Newsroom though …

Mostly though, I like faces that look like they’ve lived life and had fun doing it, no urge to look like a waxwork.

My mum had a deep plane facelift at 70. Instead of just pulling and tightening the skin, it lifts the structures (muscles, fat pads, tissues) underneath. It’s more expensive and recovery is harder but she looks fantastic

I know someone who's had one, my age (40s). She looks the same age as me but just a bit weird. We've discussed it a few times. She's very focused on her age and her looks. It hasn't made her happier, I think, because fundamentally the problem is in her head not on it.

Yes I always think this. So many women in the public eye have that very obvious look of having extensive work done to their faces. But they must surely have spent huge amounts of money. Maybe that's the look they're going for...

Here I am. I had a full face neck forhead etc. Done.
I am happy to admit I am vain and was not enjoying the damage of 39 years of South African sun and wind had done.
Now here's the rub.
A face-lift is much much more effective under the age of 40. Your skin bounces back and you don't get that stretched look.

It's very important that you trust your surgeon. I had mine done in South Africa. Call me prejudice but we have some of the most incredible medical services in the world in the private sector. If you do, look for a Surname that is Afrikaans or Jewish.

I had mine done at 39 and a good job should not make you look 20 again. It relaxes your face and makes you look like you've had a flipping good holiday and possibly at a stretch 10 years off. Anyone claiming more than that is either lying or going to ruin your face.

If you are older, could I suggest a combo. Botox in forhead is fine.
The most aging part of your face is how your under eyes hollow out. This is a much small op, done under day clinic and a very light anaesthetic. The difference is astonishing. Just moving fat from your neck and threading it into the hollow of your eye sockets.

Fillers work really well for marionette lines.

Whatever you decide do all your homework and get as much feedback as you can.

When I see people at my age (late 50s) and older with them I think they look odd. Obviously I'd never say that, but it just looks so out of keeping with the rest of their body. There comes a point when you need to tone it down a bit and accept the aging process - have something less full on if you struggle with that reality. If you just keep on going with surgery then it becomes more extreme.

On TikTok there is a young woman who went viral, pretty wee thing, she’s 27 (I think) and had a facelift. She’s still beautiful and seems very sweet but her face prior to the surgery was naturally stunning, now she has that feline look which is obviously not natural. I hate that such altering surgery is so easily available now for young women. I’m all for people doing what makes them happy but it should be done safely. A few school mums have Botox and fillers from people with no medical experience and they are happy with the results so more power to them, I just hope that nothing ever goes wrong for them. Same way people are now buying medication for weightloss from sun-bed shops or from facebook marketplace or are getting bleph (eyelid) surgery from unregulated surgeons in beauty clinics. Scary shit.

I had one. Well it was a mid face lift, canthoplasty (fox eye lift). Brow lift. It was scarless so scars are in the hairline. I had it at age 38 and I’m now 40. I had it due to a chubby face despite a small build and after having filler dissolved. I am so so happy with it! I believe and I’m told I look around 28 (my husband is 27 and he looks older id say). My skin quality is very good but I do have microneedling, Botox and peels. The brow lift means I have no excess skin on my lids. You should never look worse after having one, especially when it’s been done conservatively by a good surgeon. You will still look like you just younger and more refreshed. What I will say is all surgery’s cause issues (I’ve had a lot). Whether that be numbness here, scars, a bit of asymmetry, I have all manner of things but every surgery I’ve had was an improvement, there’s not one I regret. If it’s something you’re considering I say go for it!

Nicole Kidman and Anna Wintor in the Royal box at Wimbledon this year was like watching the waxworks from Madame Tussards having a day out.

What have they done to themselves. Nicole used to be quite striking.

I think they just make people look very odd rather than better or younger.

I remember Anne Robinson having a facelift maybe 20 years ago and thinking they’d done a pretty good job - I think it lasted about 10 years or fewer? She was very open about it - I’m not a fan; just recall it being discussed.

My dad's girlfriend had one !
It's so strange because I can't tell she just looked fresh !
She did admit it eventually and I was amazed tbh !
She had it done in the south of France and was kept as natural as possible so not overly pulled tight if that makes sense she is 80 now and her skin still looks amazing and she had sagging towels before !! Edited sagging jowels !

I’m not a fan of unnecessary (in my opinion) surgery but I must admit that Katherine Ryan’s recent facelift looks amazing.

Everyone who has surgery looks like an avatar. Take a look at the face of Amanda Holden. Stretched shiny skin & elongated eyes. Ignore how fat or thin someone is or how good their style is, just take a good look at their faces. They all look like avatars who are distantly related.

A friend of a friend had one in early 60’s. She looks fantastic and I’m judgemental!
I still get the sense she’s an older woman but one in really good nick. It aging terms definitely 10 years off.

Older people with 'young' faces just look weird imo.

Just wanted to also add I am not a fan of any cosmetic procedures I can't see the point and I think it can sometimes make people look odd
But the guy who did my dad's girlfriend was a cosmetic surgeon to the stars in the south of France people u wouldn't even realise have had surgery it's kept subtle x
