Travel trousers

I do a fair bit of long haul travel and usually wear stretchy M&S trousers and a long sleeve t shirt as the closest I can get to pyjamas without embarrassing my colleagues. However my trousers have seen better days so I need to buy new. I could stick with what I know, but thought I would see if the hive mind has new information. I need short length, soft and comfy, not too pricy as they are for flights only and they need to pack without creasing to buggery. Halara are a possibility, but not sure of quality or packability . Does anyone have any better suggestions?

I just got some hush joggers for a long haul flight. I can't wear SB Power leggings as my stomach always expands too much when I'm flying.

bridgetreilly · 25/08/2026 16:22

Leggings and a loose dress work really well for me, if you want an alternative to trousers.

curious79 · 25/08/2026 16:56

Me+Em stretchy palazzo pants, £69, good quality cotton jersey. They have a wide waist band that you can pull up over your stomach or down over your hips which allows you to style it differently

I like the Saint and Sophia apartment pant for travelling or for pretty much anything - have them in three colours. At the moment I'm wearing the Halara linen look trousers a lot as they are very comfy and don't crease up. They pack really well. I've tried the M&S version of the Saint and Sophia apartment pant and although they look ok the material is not quite as heavy and they don't hang as nicely.

I wore these long-haul recently. Maybe too casual for you, but they look nice (imo) and were ideal. Still available in red. https://www.hush-uk.com/amelia-bubble-hem-joggers-black/014517-0456.html

Im a short-arse and I've recently bought some yoga pants in black from Bon Marche. They have a 25inch inside leg which fits nicely.

I buy these for work. They always look nice and never crease. Not so great when you have a white cat though. Im always sticky rollering myself.

Mine is pale ginger & super-fluffy - she's an utter delight, but for the sake of my clothes (& sofa upholstery!), I should really have got a black one!!!

Sweaty Betty Explorer Trousers

Uniqlo have lots and I mean lots of options - the short length C collection wide leg joggers, the new ‘smart trouser’ is a drawstring waist wide leg jogger really, the linen trouser or the barrel legs are thick but soft cotton if you fancy a fashionable shape.

I travel a lot so all of those still look good getting off the plane.

I was going to suggest the Sweaty Betty Explorers. They are not cheap but brilliant quality, creases fall out and very quick to wash and dry. I live in mine when travelling and they actually look smart. They definitely do a short length but I would suggest trying on first as they was too short for me and I am only 5'3".

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 26/08/2026 02:58

I know you wanted cheap but I'm going to throw in a recommendation for Lululemon's Daydrift trousers. Because not only are they all the things you would want for flying- stretchy, elastic waisted, crease-free; they are also both comfortable and smart enough to be used for the rest of your trip, cutting down your packing overall.

They're flexible and comfortable enough for hiking, and smart enough for work or a dressy evening out. They also dry overnight. I have 3 pairs, and never travel with any other trousers.

Crew clothing super luxe joggers and hoodie. So soft

Tortephant · 26/08/2026 08:54

Me+Em travel trousers. More expensive but worth it.

Handeyethingyowl · 26/08/2026 08:56

I have some brushed cotton black Uniqo ones which are like wearing pyjamas. I wear them to work and travelling and they’re the most comfy smartish trousers I have ever worn. Sadly I got them on Vinted and have no idea which they are as they have so many!

Buggabootwo · 26/08/2026 09:11

These are all brilliant, thanks everyone.

I love these ones from Uniqlo. I now have four pairs in different colour ways, the navy blue with white stripe is quite smart as is the cream with blue stripe. Wash easy, dry quickly. I normally iron them but they don't look too bad if I don't.

Striped ones. They do different lengths tool
I've become a huge fan of Uniqlo in my old age!

Ninepine

I think Halara ones are excellent for the price and quality. I do like Saint & Sofia for the quality, but I’ve always found with their pants I need to size down at least a couple of sizes because there’s no elastic in the waistband and I was forever pulling them up or folding over the waistband to get them to stay around my waist

SnowdropDazzle · 27/08/2026 08:09

I’m being bombarded with Halara adverts, probably as I keep clicking and looking at them! The trousers and jumpsuits look great however I haven’t ordered as the Trustpilot rating is something like 1.5 and seems to be based on orders not arriving and returns being impossible. What has everyone who has bought found?

Cucurella · 27/08/2026 08:47

I’d also suggest the Saint and Sofia Runway pants. I wear them for work. Or the Me and Em palazzo pants, I wear them for travel and love them

Also came to mention sweaty Betty explorer, travelled long haul in these with 2 young kids not a crease in site and I paired with a matching colour 1/4 zip which was so soft, and I felt put together through the airport.

I also like the fact they are not a wide leg trouser. As much i would love to be able to wear a pair of elegant palazzo pants, they look terrible on me!

Squ1ggle · 27/08/2026 16:00

Another recommendation for Ninepine. I saw them mentioned a few times on S&B before I finally took the plunge about 18 months ago.

They are hands down the comfiest trousers I have ever had and still look like new. Smart enough for work but feel like leggings, very stretchy but supportive (and discreet zippy pockets too). Come in a range of lengths and because they are stretchy they are great if your weight fluctuates like mine does.

These are the ones I have but they do various other fits/styles

Magic pants. Impossible to crease and don’t become dirty.
