Holiday day bag

Hello, looking for suggestions for a "day bag" to take on holiday
It needs to fit water bottle, cardigan, food, other stuff for my kid! So fairly big
Not a handbag or feminine style. I'd like a rucksack style
Strong so it lasts and can hold a heavy bottle of water etc, but not a hiking bag or solid shape, I want to be able to squish it under the seats on the plane!
Waterproof would be great too!

Oooh I was on a day trip recently and admired a lady's backpack. It was from Roka. I am going to treat myself to one before my next city break it is stylish and practical!

Roka bags are great, very resilient.

Mine are all Roka. I prefer the Finchley to the other styles.

I like Doughnut Macaroons. Comes in loads of different colours and good prices if you shop around. Well made with loads of pockets.

The Kankens look terrible quality and design for the price, no lining and not much in the way of pockets.

Longchamp le pliage large

When I go on holiday I take a ROKA crossbody bag, my Herschel backpack for the plane ✈️ and my Longchamp Le Pliage which I fold into my suitcase to use when required.

I have a Finchley which is similar, different front pocket. They are great bags!

Roka sounds like such a good shout for this. I’d definitely prioritise something lightweight with comfy straps though — once you’ve got a kid’s water bottle, snacks and random holiday stuff in there, the bag gets heavy FAST 😂

I have a couple of Roka bags (cross body and tote style) they are well made and hard wearing.
For holidays I bought a Mai Tui back back , not as robust but lots of pockets and a key fob which the Roka doesn't have ( nor do some of the Kipling bags, I've fallen out of love with them a bit) .

How about a cork backpack type thing? They are very light. Wash up with soap and water.

For anyone out there looking for a robust, roomy backpack that is not designer and doesn't cost the same as the airfare, have a look at this one from Decathlon. I have one and it is absolutely the business. I love the chest strap which keeps the handles from slipping down to my elbows, and takes some of the weight off my shoulders!

Rains bags are great and waterproof. We really like ours.

I was going to link the decathlon one I have as it's so comfy and comes with a waterproof cover (I have the 30l which will easily fit all the kids stuff and a picnic) but they seem to have stopped selling it (which is annoying as I wanted to gett he smaller one now the kids are bigger and don't need so much stuff)! This looks like the closest alternative:

It's sold as a hiking rucksack but the back isn't firm and I have no problem squashing it in places.
