Would this longer tan trench coat be a sensible investment purchase?

I tried it on twice and the length is really flattering. I don't suit cool beige. My previous trench was shorter. I don't know why I am on the fence, maybe price, worry about fluctuating weight, longevity of a longer trench (what months will I wear it).

I mean that this is warm beige.

I think perhaps OP means she doesn’t suit the griege type colour of regular trench coats?

Its lovely OP but- and I say this with love, unless you look like the model, most people end up looking like a sack of spuds in a belted trench.

I have a trench from next, shower resistant, warm beige as I also don’t suit cool beige. It has a really big hood. I put off wearing a trench for years as thought I was too short (5ft4). It actually looks really good on but not closed, better open. I hate closing my coats anyway so that works for me!

I like a longer trench because I have an irrational hatred of when skirts peek out the bottom of a coat.

Disagree. Trench coats are classic and it’s hard to look bad in them

I looked on vinted and you could get Hobbs trench coats in many other colours. There is not much use in getting a colour that doesn't suit you. Recently I got a Joanna Hope trench coat in apple green from a charity shop and I have had a lot of compliments from people and even from strangers telling me I am stylish I am size 20. When I tried the coat on I knew I was meant to have it as it was the right arm length as well as being a good length for a coat. eBay is worth a look as well. My coat was a fiver and I am looking forward to cooler days when I can wear it. I also bought a bright pink trench coat from Vinted for a fiver and that was from one of the designers ranges from Debenhams. That will also be stunning .I prefer to have a bright coat rather than the usual black winter coat.

Just to add I think you will get a lot of use out of owning a trench coat as there are a lot of days when it will be suitable from early autumn through to Spring. Unless the money is fine there is no way I would spend as much money on a coat so that is why I use charity shops and the websites . Having said that if you do get a new coat from Hobbs you will get value for money as it can be worn for a lot of the year.

Well according to some posters there is just about nothing which is wearable by anyone who isn't a 5'10", size 6 model. It's nonsense.

Only you @Atleastitsnotsunstroke will know whether it will be a good investment for you. If you wore your previous on many occasions then maybe. This style is all over the place at various prices. The thing that puts me off is the check material which is like a Burberry nod. I remember the horrific Burberry outfits from certain celebrities. Are you wanting the look or the quality?

It looks like a fake Burberry with that lining, otherwise, I like it.

You’ve said you’re worried about fluctuating weight, @Atleastitsnotsunstroke? The coat is fine but my only reservation might be that its shape is inimical to looking good oversized - and generally I prefer, and would have suggested, sizing up.

(My own new showerproof coat is fairly vast, and I’m not, except in the shoulder area, but I love swishing about in lots of well structured cloth.)

I would say that’s a classic piece that will last you ages, I’d totally buy it.

I'm not madly keen on the way it buttons to the side, I think that that can give the bust a weird mono-bosom situation. And I'm not a fan of those belts, I think they end of looking a bit untidy. But those are irrelevant details about my own taste!

You say the length is flattering but when you try it on do you immediately think 'I love this on me'? That's my measure when I find myself trying to be very sensible about purchases. If it doesn't do that clichéd thing of 'sparking joy' I put it back.

Yes I don't suit greige. I planned on wearing it open. But at times closed. I was a bit unsure about the beltedness. But I don't suit double breasted done up either - I just wore my old one open.

This was a vibe when I put it on, but it won't go with anything patterned underneath.

Agree - usually when its super cold I switch to a different coat that I wear closed.

Hobbs also had a swing style trench with a hood that the lady was trying to push on. I felt I looked like a shapeless triangle and it waa giving Red Riding hood vibes 😂

I agree - when the trouser or skirt is cropped or mid calf it looks really odd IMHO. I feel the longer trench will work with my current love for a cropped length.

Inspector Gadget is a vibe I'm okay with 😂🤣. I just love the simplicity of a trench especially for commuting. No extra thought needed about a coat especially during transitional seasons.

Go for it. I think long ones look better than shorter. I finally bought a long tench about two years ago, having always thought they didn’t suit me. Well, I love it. I’m a short size 14 and very pale, but red lipstick seems to lift my face enough to get away with the beige.

I never fasten it though, just wear it open and tied to nip it in a bit at the back.

If you love it and know you'll still love it in 20 years' time, then yes.

I paid more than that for a coat about 30 years ago and I still love it. I knew I would though.
