Would this longer tan trench coat be a sensible investment purchase?

I tried it on twice and the length is really flattering. I don't suit cool beige. My previous trench was shorter. I don't know why I am on the fence, maybe price, worry about fluctuating weight, longevity of a longer trench (what months will I wear it).

Yeah I have always been on the fence when I pick up a long coat as I am 5.6. I think its more a case of not being used to it, rather than it looking wrong. The quality is also very good.

I'm unsure on sizing as I have had Hobbs clothes in size 10 before. I am heavier now and weight always goes to my shoulders, plus I would want room for layers.

So the 12 fits with no layers. The 14 is perfect for layers. But if I lose weight then may be too big. I might just go for it though.

I like the length but am not sure about the buttonless look, it looks a bit wrong somehow. I prefer the style of this one but it only comes in the olive.

I have a trench from Hobbs that must be abot 10 or 12 years old, have been worn loads and still looks like new. They are very well made. Mine was a Saskia, similar to Skylar so shorter than you want.

It’s a classic style and I’m sure it won’t date however I would never buy a trench coat without a hood personally!

Interesting, @Back21970 - I find hoods on rainwear mostly an encumbrance. Except in the depths of winter rainy weather where I am (SE) isn’t accompanied by cold - so putting up a hood just makes me hot and uncomfortable. Even where, as with my favourite city wear kagool, the entire garment is 100% cotton.

I find an umbrella much easier. (And was astonished to learn, from another thread a while ago, that they’re now seen as an elitist nuisance. I’m keeping mine.)

I agree. Hoods have no place on trench coats. I have a parka from Oska which has a hood, which is OK, but I wouldn't buy a trench coat or overcoat which had a hood.

They might be OK if detachable but they're fine on a parka.
I'm not an umbrella user and I wear a parka style for everyday and an overcoat with no hood otherwise.
Not that I have worn a coat or jacket recently.

I would not wear a hood with 'fur' trim.

Good lenght! The colour looks cooler than I expected based on your description… but you tried it in person, so I wouldn’t put too much weight on a photograph (or a stranger‘s opinion on colour theory).

I like it. It looks classic without being austere or fussy 👍
