Yet another wedding guest dress question!

My cousin is getting married next month. The wedding invitation specified no white or purple, as these are the bridal party colours. I'd have never have worn white as a matter of course, but was grateful for the heads-up on the purple, as no one wants to look like they're trying to make themselves into a bridesmaid by stealth!

Anyway, I had narrowed it down to a couple of dresses and I think this is the one. However, I showed it to my mother and she made a bit of a face and said, "Ohhh... it's pink though." I was baffled and said I could see perfectly well it was pink, and what was her point. She said, "They said no purple. What if it's a pinky purple?"

I think she's nuts 😄I've already avoided blues in case it was a bluish purple, but I don't think this could be seen as anywhere near purple. Plus, every bridesmaid dress I've ever seen has been a block colour, not a print. Surely this isn't a risky choice?

Pink and floral and midi length is not going to get mixed up with a purple bridesmaid outfit - you're fine I am sure! I guess green or yellow would technically be safest but that's a lovely summery wedding dress. If they're specific enough to tell guests no white or purple, they're the kind of bride and groom who'd know if their purple is a bit pink

DoubleEspressoForMe · 05/08/2026 17:53

Absolutely stunning and categorically not purple. Unlikely bridal party will be in florals either. Certainly not pink florals

Marieb19 · 05/08/2026 18:19

It's pink. It's lovely. Ignore your mum.

Annalou30 · 05/08/2026 18:21

Apologies to hop on your thread, but do we all think this would fall into the white/cream/no go category?

I wouldn’t but I’m very old and old fashioned about what is appropriate.

with tens of different colour choices, I never understand why anyone would pick a cream/ ivory whatever dress, even if the black details here make it look like a non-wedding dress

Why can't people just pick a colour and let the bride be the only one in her own wedding gown and wedding colours?

Even Kate Middleton in the palest yellow looked ridiculous at her in-laws wedding. She didn't look like a bride, but why not choosing a colour. It's not that hard.

Her SMIL was wearing silver which she no doubt knew. And QE2 was wearing white. The Royals are a lot less fussed about guests wearing white than the average Brit, never mind Americans who don't even like a navy dress with white polka dots.

theneighboureatmysalad · 05/08/2026 19:36

the royals are usually very appropriately dressed at wedding, only Kate had to make a "fashion" statement in pale lemon. It wasn't an accident, no one knows why she decided to be that rude. She knew she would be on all the wedding photos but they had a spectacular fall out, maybe they had already fell out, who knows.

One of Meghan and Harry''s American wedding guests was wearing navy with white polka dot, I don't remember reading anything negative about her, it was a beautiful dress for a beautiful woman.

@BashtheBishop please can you letus know where that dress is from? I love it!

Well thankfully we're not royalty (although another distant cousin is a minor celebrity!) so there shouldn't be any paps 😁I'm glad to see it's not just me who thinks my mother is worrying over nothing!

Can I ask where the pink dress is from? I want it too 😊

EmmaB1309 · 05/08/2026 21:06

I’d say you’re 100% safe in that (clearly pink!) dress. It’s lovely.

I would call burgundy a type of purple! At best a purpley red

No burgundy is fine. If the bridesmaids dresses were burgundy they’d have said avoid burgundy not purple

maxslice · 05/08/2026 21:49

It’s beautiful and it’s fine. Not in any way purple.

Sasha07 · 05/08/2026 21:52

That is beautiful. And definitely pink.

Style Lessons from the Royal Wedding

I love a wedding, so, as you can imagine, I was in my element on Saturday. There I was at 9 am, sat between my fabulous girlfriends, champagne in hand, ready to take it all in – and check out the style obviously!

It’s pink and it’s really beautiful, please wear it.

Insisting on no purple is one thing but they can’t remove the other colours close to it on the spectrum.

SummerSummerSummertime · Yesterday 08:21

Totally pink.

caringcarer · Yesterday 08:38

Very pretty and not purple.

RanniTheWitch · Yesterday 09:42

It’s gorgeous and perfect for a no purple wedding. You’re going to look amazing.
