Stripey dress as a basic.

I have lots of long floating dresses with patterns, and I want it to move away to something a bit more basic. Maybe a bit more figure hugging.

Are horizontal stripes regarded tr3ndy these days.

I just wanted a plain basic dress, and this one is fairly cheap.

The fabric is v substantial thick heavt jersey & it doesn't sag or grow loose as you wear it

Actually, there have been studies since then that have "debunked" that! It depends on the thickness of stripes, the light to dark ratio, the cut of clothing & other factors.

That dress is thin of stripe & on the darker side - both more slimming, theoretically.

I do like the dress - I like Jigsaw products & it's really well-reduced. However, the thing I personally find a bit offputting is the asymmetrical neckline. It's not one-shouldered, which is a very deliberate style - it has instead been cut on a very slight diagonal to look as if it's casually falling off one shoulder ... but instead I think it looks a bit contrived! It is a style that is "in" right now though - whereas all the other striped jersey maxi dresses are much plainer/more basic in style. Maybe you could pull it down a bit more to make it look properly off one shoulder?

Yeah, I wasn't sold on the neck line either.And I think it would annoy me falling off the shoulder. So I'll think I'll look for an equivalent one with normal shoulders

I agree. The asymmetric shoulder line doesn't make a basic dress. You need a t shirtsdress.

I really like it op and have ordered it. Only fly in the ointment for me is the neckline because of visible bra straps but It’s a nice dress and I’ll see what it’s like when it’s on.

There's a one shoulder version for the same price that looks less sloppy, I really like it but not sure if that would count as an everyday 'basic'

I think that is a corking dress @MyPlumHelper at a great price. If they had my size I would snap it up too! Enjoy wearing it.

I think it just depends on the length you prefer to wear, in a particular style? I am also tall, & Seasalt skirts & dresses are always just that bit too short for my own liking. It's a nice dress, but IMO would look more contemporary if it was several inches longer.

I've never bought anything from White Stuff, so have no idea what their clothes are like. But for a striped T-shirt dress with a slight twist to it, this is quite nice?

Only a size 4 left, but it might be traceable in store. This is what I'd consider a basic everyday striped T-shirt dress - obviously lots of others did at that sale price too, hence it being almost totally sold out!

This one is a bargain.

Funnily enough I was in town earlier this afternoon and walked past a jigsaw, remembered I’d ordered the dress in the op and thought I’d go and see if it was there - they only had the one shoulder version and panicked thinking that I’d ordered that by mistake! I avoid anything that’s full shoulders out but it felt like a nice weighty dress and I’m looking forward to my delivery.

They're such a staple item. I've had striped t shirt dresses since the 90s and they can look good on nearly everyone and go anywhere in the daytime from beach to store to lunch out or a casual night. My eldest has my long 90s Gap one, I habe a knee length one and a navy and white long one.

I agree that the shoulder falling off would get annoying.
