Walking sandals that will look good

Without sounding too elderly I need sandals I can walk in for my holiday (to Porto, Portugal)

but I also want to look stylish with nice dresses and floaty trousers, any suggestions?

Black or tan preferably

Proper walking sandals are not stylish. They are designed for comfort.

Two important questions @teaandtoastwouldbenice - how comfortable do you need them to be (any foot issues for example, or is just not uncomfortable sufficient) and what would you normally consider 'stylish' as this is a completely subjective descriptor!

Trespass kimbra are so comfortable and don't really look like walking sandals once they are on , current pair are in their third year of fairly heavy use . However they are hard to find online at the moment unless you are a size 3 . So glad I have a spare pair waiting in the wings when I need to replace mine.

I wear Vionic sandals and they are not awful looking and comfortable enough to walk around all day in.

Depends on how much walking you plan to do...

If you want 'proper' walking sandals I'd take a look at Merrell as they have a variety of styles, including several tilted towards the more fashiony end of the market, e.g.

i don’t want proper walking ones, just very walkable ones I guess!
No foot issues but I get grumpy if I get blisters and my teens will complain if I’m too slow. (I’m 42 aware I sound 92)
I guess my idea of stylish (🤦‍♀️) is I buy most of my stuff from Office if that helps

im considered fit flops for this reason. They’re supposed to be comfortable for walking in.

Tevas work for me

They wouldn’t work for a long hike but comfy for walking round towns etc on holiday

My sketchers are so comfortable and are plain black with some detailing on the strap - they work for me for work or walking.

This. You are never ever going to find a pair of stylish proper walking sandals because they don't exist.
The best you can hope for is some that are comfortable, support your foot properly and have good soles.
I have a pair of Tevas which are all of the above but they are definitely not stylish in any way shape or form but that's okay because I bought them for summer hiking.

I cannot wear sandals to save my life, but have recently bought these, and they are very comfortable. For once ever in the history of my feet they havent cut them to shreds.

Hmm. Wouldn't choose any of their sandals for walking... You want something that doesn't have a really thin sole and if you're prone to blisters I suspect broad straps are likely to be better, purely because there's less chance of an edge being somewhere that will rub.

Would you consider something very simple like this or this?

I have some sandals from Celtic & Co. They have the same cork footbed as Birkenstocks that moulds to your feet. I’ve walked miles in mine this holiday (usually I walk in trainers) and they’ve been great.

I have a pair of Merrells that I’ve had for years. They aren’t high fashion but they don’t look too bad and if the rest of your outfit is half stylish they will look ok. But if I’m on a walking holiday I don’t particularly care what’s on my feet as long as they don’t cut them to ribbons and don’t make me look 90

Funnily enough I’m off to Porto tomorrow! I’ve bought some Teva Original Slim in tan which I’m pleased with. I’m a longtime Birkenstock wearer but these are definitely better for longer walks. Very comfortable and look better than I expected with skirts. I think they do them in leather too. Also travelling with teens and no one has passed any negative/embarrassment comments yet…

Can I ask anyone who has had Fit Flops - are they easy to wear from day one. Ie the leather straps across the top? Do they cut in or are they soft?

Was there a few weeks ago. Vast majority of people were in trainers or Birkenstocks. It's very hilly with lots of uneven cobbles.

Try Reiker. I had a pair last year which were like walking sandals but in pale grey, blue and green - I think they also came in black. I walked for miles in Split with no blisters or discomfort from day one.

@corblimeymlud I bought those fisherman sandals this summer. The footbed was incredibly comfortable from the off, but the straps cut into my skin on the toes as well as on the top of the foot. This was during long, long days of walking in hot London in July; now when I wear them more normally they give me no trouble.
