Do bright coloured bio nails look cheap ?

I currently have a bright pink on. I think it could look cheap.

Is French more polished/elegant?
Does a French look summery ?
Would you pick a French for a summer holiday ?

I think they can look summery but it also depends on your overall look clothing wise etc

Moveoverdarlin · 28/07/2026 09:39

I always have bright nails in the summer but they’re not fake. So they’re long, but not ridiculously long.

BauhausOfEliott · 28/07/2026 09:41

I definitely wouldn’t pick a French manicure for a summer holiday - they’re quite corporate and a bit basic.

For a holiday I’d go for something more fun.

I’m allllll about the holographic nails right now. Barry M has a stunning range and they look amazing in different lights! I started the summer with French in June and now I’m just enjoying the multicoloured sparkles.

Belladog1 · 28/07/2026 10:06

I have natural nails, which are quite long. But in the summer I go with bright pastel colours in pink, orange, lilac and yellow. In the winter months I generally stick with reds. I always have my nails painted.

Mrsredlipstick · 28/07/2026 10:16

If your nails are very bright I'd wear them shorter.

French is lovely but definitely corporate.
If you want neutral try a nude.

chemmie · 28/07/2026 10:17

Depends on your nails & clothing, french can also cheap.

Ooo, off to hunt these.

I am giving my nails a break from gels, have reacquainted myself with my enormous collection of Barry M paints from 10 or so years back, but there is always room for another and Barry M are so reasonably priced.....DD would love a hollo for the holidays as well!

Mamaceita · 28/07/2026 10:27

Yes, yes and yes

FallenNight · 28/07/2026 10:35

@TheMillionthBeautyAddict they have a color change one as well. I'm off shopping tomorrow!

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 28/07/2026 12:50

is French more polished/elegant? It does not.

Does a French look summery? Not particularly.

Would you pick a French for a summer holiday ? Definitely not.

Bright colours look cheap and French looks 90s but not in a good way. The only elegant way to wear nails is either clear or very pail pink. “Fun” nails are naff.

Arlanymor · 28/07/2026 12:57

I'm not a fan of the word 'cheap' (unless it relates to yellow labels in supermarkets) as it's classist and shames personal taste. You'd think we'd moved past that nonsense and on to appreciating individual style in the 21st century, but apparently not and snobbery is alive and well.

Wear what you like, what makes you feel good and cheerful. It's really no one else's business - yes in a workplace there can be rules to follow, but on holiday, there are no rules except your own happiness.

LOL.

No.

Pollyanna87 · 28/07/2026 13:08

I think they can look fun but painted nails always look cheap, including French manicured.

I wear all sorts on toenails in summer but fingernails I keep neutral.

mathanxiety · 28/07/2026 13:11

French manicures all look horribly tacky imo. Also bubblegum / neon/ bright colours.

It's certainly cringe!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/07/2026 13:35

I don’t particularly like French manicures personally, but I think hot pink and other bright colours in summer are perfect. A coral in summer is my favourite. As soon as it turns to September I like deep reds, dark greens, navy, and so on, the brights are dead to me until spring!

Sassylovesbooks · 28/07/2026 13:52

I have natural nails, that are long but not ridiculously so. I tend to go for bright colours in the summer. My toes are always a different colour to my finger nails too, I never match!!

A French manicure is elegant and pretty but yes, it's basic and not very exciting. If you think brights are too much, go for softer pastels instead.

ElegantlyDressing · 28/07/2026 14:45

All depends on the length/shape of the nail, short look way nicer than long IMO and I dislike squared off tips or sharp points.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 28/07/2026 15:03

Ummm! Did not think anything I said was that awful! No jokes allowed on strait laced MN? I referred to spelling “pale” as “pail”. That’s a fair comment in the circumstances and being unable to spell is “naff”.

Still - I’m not a fan of neon colours or blues or greens. Any shade of red, pink and coral mostly ok but don’t like orange. Don’t have a French myself and some are not great with squared off tips.

Will this result in another removal! MN police a bit over active today.

BarrelofBeer · 28/07/2026 15:08

I love Barry M - vegan and cruelty free too!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 28/07/2026 15:14

I’ve had neon different coloured toenails before. They don’t look cheap! Had silver chrome recently and now got gold glitter.

All these look good with tanned feet.
