I’ve been on the lookout for one of their oversized blazers in a colour/material I like and was foaming at the mouth when I clicked on this but then looked at the garment composition… 62% polyester! £350 for something that is 62% polyester!! Luxury heritage-inspired tweedy 62% polyester!! Deranged. Not sure what my point is with this thread really but I mean… wow.

I think people see polyester and think it’s all the same crap, it is not, there is huge variation , me and em use the most luxurious version , which will behave better than a natural fabric and feel like a very high end material,

I wear a lot of me and em, snd none of their clothes feel or behave like cheap material

I am guessing you’re not a customer of theirs, as you’d know this.

Me & Em is far from 'luxurious'. Their clothing is accessible and produced for the masses.

Yeah I’m not sure you’re not really imagining things, I’m sure your co worker did do this and I’m sure it exists but I really don’t think big brands are employing people to read mumsnet and well do whatever you think they are doing.

My previous employer (not fashion) had people in the social media team doing exactly this. I don’t work in marketing so no idea how common it is.

I don't think the Me + Em jacket bears any comparison to the Colenimo tweed jacket I posted. Even on a screen the Colenimo tweed look like real tweed and the Me +Em doesn't.

https://colenimo.com/products/scottish-merino-wool-blazer-grey-herringbone

(no doubt I'll now be accused of being in the pay of Colenimo)

But the me and em one isn’t tweed nor does it claim to be, it’s Italian melange puppy tooth, Confused

this is an ai summary of what that is.

Italian mélange puppytooth material is a premium heritage-inspired textile featuring a miniature houndstooth check pattern, a heathered multi-colored yarn look, and fine Italian manufacturing. It blends classic tailoring with a softer, modern texture.
Key Characteristics

  • Mélange Effect: Yarns are spun from multiple dyed fibers blended together before weaving, creating a soft, heathered, multi-toned color depth instead of a flat solid shade.
  • Puppytooth Pattern: A scaled-down, subtle micro-version of the traditional houndstooth (or dogtooth) check, making the pattern understated and visible mostly from a close distance.
  • Italian Sourcing: Typically woven or finished in renowned Italian mills known for luxury tailoring cloths, often utilizing high-grade wool, wool-blends, or refined synthetic-natural mixes that offer a soft handfeel and graceful drape.
Common Uses
  • Tailored Outerwear: Structured blazers, cropped jackets, and overcoats.
  • Suiting and Separates: Sophisticated trousers, matching suit sets, and smart-casual skirts.

Ok fair enough. I don't like the look of the Me + Em jacket compared to Colenimo

And that’s fine, but claiming it doesn’t look like tweed when it’s not tweed nor does it say it is, is a bit odd, it’s very clear it’s Italian melange puppy tooth.

it’s like looking at a cashmere jumper and saying well that doesn’t look like a silk top to me, I prefer silk, so will buy this one, Confused

That jacket is beautiful. I have an idea in mind for this autumn of something similar in a navy herringbone tweed. I’ll keep an eye on the Colenimo site - thanks for the tip

Not really, it's more I've got a budget of around £500 and want a new jacket.

Ok, if I was spending 500 quid on a jacket it wouldn’t be either, and that’s ok right, I’m not sure that’s what the thread is about.

I think you didn’t look properly thought it was tweed in your haste and now are embarassed in your mistake,

friedaklein · 28/07/2026 14:46

This thread is so weird.
It must be the heat.
I will get off.

HobnobsChoice · 28/07/2026 15:04

It's not hot where I am and there's still some very cunty replies on here. I'm a fan of luxury fabrics but polyester no matter how high cost behaves differently to cotton or linen, wool or even viscose due to the fact it's not a natural fibre and doesn't have to be spun in the same sort of way. It's great for technical wear such as running clothes as it wicks moisture rather than absorbs but it can also be less breathable which is the issue for me and a number of others. It won't wrinkle usually and can add nice drape but wool depending on the weave can also drape beautifully. Worsted has a gorgeous drape, tweed less so. I'd be very annoyed at a £350 jacket promoted as tweed containing such a significant amount of polyester. It's not going to have the same spring back as actual wool and it will have a different drape to 100% wool.
The actual wool tweed coats are beautiful and timeless. And I've got no skin in this particular game as I can't wear wool due to eczema.

JustWhatIAlwaysWanted · 28/07/2026 15:32

On the 'different grades of polyester' front, where, if anywhere, do Me+Em explain their choice of fabric, quality and so on? Several posters have stated as fact that theirs will be a 'better' polyester. Any company that has an eye on its corporate social responsibility will be clear about this and have information online for consumers.

Again, it doesn’t promote itself as tweed. its Italian melange dogtooth, are people not even bothering looking at it?how can anyone think it’s tweed? Or even promoting itself as? Confused

is it because the op doesn’t understand the fabric and said it’s polyester tweedy ?

No I'm not embarrassed. I don't think that Me + Em jacket is particularly nice. You and Me + Em can talk the material up if you want.

But according to Google "Italian Melange Dogtooth

Material Composition: Commonly crafted from premium virgin wool, wool blends, or silk-infused wool woven in historic Italian mills.

So 62 % polyester is a bit of stretch for that as well.

I didn’t talk it up? Are you actually reading things properly? I simply stated it wasn’t tweed, what it was and gave an ai description of what thay material was as I suspected you didn’t know what it was, as you claimed it was tweed.

i certainly didn’t talk up this material. And was quite clear I don’t particularly like either jacket.

TheRealGoose · 28/07/2026 16:02

PhaedraTwo · 28/07/2026 15:51

Here for example is one which is 99% wool.

Italian Melange puppytooth

Ok, what’s your point? There are hundreds if not thousands in all different materials

no one is trying to sell you the me and em one? You seem almost frenzied about it.

but the blokes one or the tweed one, honeslth no one cares.

TheRealGoose · 28/07/2026 16:13

Honestly @PhaedraTwo i just don’t get it. I understand fully for you natural fibres is beyond key, and you really like tweed, but others feel differently and there is space for everyone.

i don’t particularly like any of the jackets posted, but natural fibres is fairly irrelevant to me, im looking at the quality of the material, how it wears, how it moves on the body, the cut, the style, the colour, the look, its wearability, its durability.

and thats ok too, right?

Cherrytree86 · 28/07/2026 16:28

I think if Me&Em put a turd on a clothes hanger and tried to sell it, @TheRealGoose would defend it and tell others they simply don’t understand it.

YellowSpade · 28/07/2026 16:31

Newmeagain · 28/07/2026 13:36

Me and Em is like many other brands (Sezane has followed the same path). They started off really well, with quality fabrics and interesting designs that were well made. Now they are just churning out the same stuff, cheaply made, at really high prices.

i know because I have spent too much time over three decades looking at and buying clothes.

i also know that polyester is going to go bobbly quite quickly.

I know because I have spent too much time over three decades looking at and buying clothes

This I can relate to!

https://www.meandem.com/textured-stripe-bias-cut-maxi-dress-ivory
Italian tweed dress.

Can this material be called tweed?

*Main Fabric: 40% Recycled Polyester, 26% Linen, 25% Recycled Cotton, 7% Polyester, 2% Viscose
Piping: 40% Recycled Polyester, 26% Linen, 25% Recycled Cotton, 7% Polyester, 2% Viscose

Made from an Italian tweed that includes a blend of linen, cotton and recycled fibres. This fabric has a softly textured weave, which gives a soft yet structured feel.*

Does this look like tweed? I am not an expert but I think I would be disappointed. 🤷🏼‍♀️

mooshkymoo · 28/07/2026 16:52

I feel a bit disoriented now. If this has all been an elaborate ploy / bit to get people interested in me & em, it’s weirdly worked on me!

I’ve just gone upstairs and pulled out a lovely muslin coord I bought from them a few years ago to wear tomorrow. It’s 100% cotton and does indeed hang, and handle, well. But it’s an absolute f€cker to wash and dry.

Sorry OP I hope you make peace with yourself / the jacket. Maybe give it a go and return if it feels squeaky and like you’re wearing a bin bag.

nearlylovemyusername · 28/07/2026 17:02

TheRealGoose · 28/07/2026 10:26

I am really not sure I beleive you. I’ve never touched anything of theirs that feels plasticky,

for some reason I think people take real issue with brands they can’t afford.

This poster didn't say it was Me+Em skirt.

In most cases I can tell if it's polyester by touching the garment.
