Me + Em. £350 for something that is 62% polyester!!

I’ve been on the lookout for one of their oversized blazers in a colour/material I like and was foaming at the mouth when I clicked on this but then looked at the garment composition… 62% polyester! £350 for something that is 62% polyester!! Luxury heritage-inspired tweedy 62% polyester!! Deranged. Not sure what my point is with this thread really but I mean… wow.

Really not sure what my point was in making this thread but damn. I mean I am so desperate to give them my money for one of those blazers but I just can’t. All the other colours have got 100% polyester linings too. Even the summer ones. Not even viscose. A niche problem I realise. A very, very niche, first world problem.

It is outrageous. I clicked through and I note its €550 in Ireland. Even worse!

100% agree with you. It really winds me up when higher end brands use cheap fabrics.

You could probably pick up a man’s wool jacket on Vinted and have it tailored to fit you for much cheaper.

I bought a Jaeger tweed jacket with 80% wool for £30 on Vinted. I think big brands these days are so often not worth the money.

They had a bomber jacket which was also polyester and circa £300.
I hadn't looked when ordering but it was so obvious when I opened the box, that I repackaged and returned without even trying it on.

I think when the brands are trying to charge too much for polyester they are really risking putting themselves out of business. You might as well go to shein and be done for £10 for polyester or go on vinted for something old but decent quality. I’d expect decent material for £300.

I’m more relaxed than some posters about polyester but I was very cross the time I saw a ‘tweed’ jacket on their website that (from memory) was 13% wool.

It is very annoying, so many brands using polyester and charging a lot of money. Prices skyrocketing too.
I saw a post yesterday from a local clothes shop who was pointing out the tulle skirts she is selling for around £45 are being sold by Wolf and Badger for £85, the exact same skirt.

I really liked them a few years ago and bought a couple of outfits, but I also think there’s something a bit “off” about the brand. There’s a couple of beauty brands that make me feel the same way and I can’t quite put my finger on it. One’s called Avant, and the other is called Able. There’s also flannerie too. Might just be me, but it feels like some brands are able to shoot straight to the top through clever PR and social media coverage without having to grow and learn their craft. They lack depth / authenticity somehow, and I think that’s maybe why we feel the products are overpriced. Well, those of us that aren’t buying the hype. Emperor’s clothing, an’ all that.

Me + Em is constantly advertised to me and I keep seeing things that I love the look of, but I just can’t buy it for this reason OP. I am happy to pay for quality of materials and cut but this just isn’t it. Their profit margins must be enormous. Labelling something online as “cotton” or “silk” when it is in fact only about 10-20% natural materials has just put me off the whole brand. I wish I could block their annoying ads!

To be honest I don’t mind it as much as some, it seems to keep me quite cool, stays the right shape and doesn’t crease quickly.

It's ridiculous and just all about branding and marketing. The labels are no measure of quality. These days I find the most consistency from George Asda, Seasalt and JD Williams, Crew, M&S.

I often give myself a kick up the bum everytime I'm tempted by the likes of Boden and Me and Em etc. Overpriced stuff that's no better than TU and H&M.

I hate polyester and will never buy it. It has become a scourge! That jacket is an absolute piss take.

I don’t mind a small small percentage being synthetic though as it turns the moths off, and they are also a scourge.

The single-most complimented garment ever in my wardrobe is a pair of polyester Me +Em cropped trousers I bought six years ago and still wear fairly regularly, though they are now showing some slight wear. They never crease and they are very flattering. People still ask me where I got them.

This is what happened to Whistles. Years ago it used to be good quality. Then they started charging wool prices for acrylic.

Maybe buy a better quality men's jacket for the same fit? Something like this.

I feel the same way about ‘vegan leather’ handbags…at very expensive leather prices.

I’m fine with a synthetic handbag but for c£25 quid in Zara.

But don’t try and flog me ‘vegan leather’ for £150.

Reiss too. A trouser suit at 700 euro made of a wool-poly mix, emphasis on the poly. My husband bought one from the men's section - beautiful lightweight soft 100% wool for the SAME price. This is not okay.

I think there has been an improvement of late - wool & cashmere & silk have popped up here & there. I hope it continues. I used to love their silk dresses ...

Hopefully they’ve learned that people aren’t fooled by their crap fabrics and won’t buy them. I’ve noticed that they seem to have a never ending sale the past few years.

I do wonder who these clothes are supposed to appeal to. People with money to spend want good quality. People without money to spend will be buying their acrylic in Primark, not Whistles.
