Can I pull off a non wedding-y dress for getting married in?

Size 22
5ft 10
Longish brown hair
Massive boobs but also very thick around the waist now
Will need to train myself to walk in anything more than a kitten heel
Flexible budget
Small wedding, registry office then some food and cocktails at home
November wedding, it will be cold
Been married before and don't want anything too bridal.
Not good legs but midi is okay.

I like the thought of a statement dress but not even sure where to start. In my head I have some sort of outfit that you'd wear to the opera, maybe something embroidered or long or metallic, just something different. But I don't know where to even start looking for options and have spent all day yesterday basically on the usual bridal websites not really finding anything

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Definitely don't have to wear heels but my legs are really quite dumpy. I have a long body then proportionally not long legs so feel that heels are needed

Lots of ones with easier heels to walk in than kitten - even though they're quite low, there's something about the centre of gravity with kitten heels that means they can be quite destabilising to wear, I find. Of course it depends on the detail & exact style of the shoe/sandal. And the style of footwear you go for will depend on the dress.

My favourite kaftan dress (vintage 70s Bernat Klein) has a tie detail at the waist. So the boob shelf thing doesn't happen. Might be worth a look around for one with a waist detail?

I would also happily consider black as my wedding dress, as I love it. This is elegant & dramatic - definitely one to wear with heels IMO. And lots of gold!

Oooh - this comes with a cape! I do love a cape ... but it will tip you over budget ... I know a PP said that there'll be more on the MR website later in the year, but their prices are rather prohibitive ... so I would have a good delve through their sale right now.

Also pale pink so probably not your colour. But I do think a shirtwaister style (like the dark brown one someone posted above) can work well.

Oh that's fabulously dramatic! I see it as flesh-coloured though, & much prefer the black. Love the sculpted roses at the bottom! Is black an option?

Oh I love the Katya Wildman ones especially the collarless ones. And the Marina Rinaldi kaftan / cape ones - especially the orange and the white one shoulder.

Not so keen on anything shirt dressy including the KW collared options and a lot of the Marina Rinaldi - I can’t quite get over the work vibes but maybe just me.

If I were to finally get round to marriage, I would just choose the loveliest dress I could find! To me, that would also mean a dress in a colour I loved & knew really suited me (I count black as perfectly viable as an alternative wedding dress colour). That's probably partly why I love that green plissé gown.

Once I'd found a beautiful dress in a perfect colour, then the groom & everything else in terms of flowers, decor etc would have to fit around me!!! 😁

Velvet would be lovely for a November wedding!

I wore one of these and they have different colours, for special wedding and I'm plus sized. Its nearly mostly cotton with a bit of elastane, so even on a very hot day, I didn't feel sweaty and hot. It was very stretchy, so great over the chest. But also loved Needle and Thread and there are lots on vinted. Good luck 🙂The pretty dress company

Scarlett and Jo have lovely dresses suitable for a wedding. I particularly like the Helena or Verity style. They are true to size and lovely weighty material.
