Please help me style this MOB dress

This is my dress

I’ve really struggled to find something but I love this and feel great in it even though it’s not a traditional MOB type dress. I’m worried it’s not smart enough though - should I try to dress it up a bit? I’ve got nude sandals and a cream suede clutch and was planning minimal silver jewellery as I think anything else would clash with the pattern. Do I need something on my head? I’ve got short hair so won’t have a fancy up do just a nice blow dry. I really want to look my best for my daughter but still feel like me.

My sister wears these to weddings and swears they are comfortable. Hard to believe, I know.

I would match the shoes to the bag then, think red, tan and cream would be too much. Personally, I think gold would be a better match for the red, will tone better with warm red and tan tones.

Agree with this. I feel like there’s too many tones going on with red, white, nude/pink, cream, silver… it’s all a bit mismatched! I would choose white shoes and bag with this x

I think it's gorgeous. Why oeople think they have to have some outdated dress and coat ensemble or a long lace and chiffon thingy they look weird in, I have no idea. But I would make the jewellery quite big and clunky so it dresses it up a bit. Head? Up to you. I can't see a fascinator really going with that, but a summery natural straw hat or a single big silk flower might work.

It has a lovely sundress vibe, and so how about a wide brimmed sun hat to go with it in either cream or red? Something like the pic attached?

I’ve always fancied some Esska heels like these but I felt like I should be choosing something a bit more elegant - I worry they’re a slight middle aged mum cliche but they are lovely 😳

Those red platform sandals would be absolutely perfect with it. Have a look at Esska. They are so easy to walk/dance in.

Sorry, just saw you've seen them! I wore the same at my own wedding ( well Monsoon knock offs) and I felt fab and very smart.

Dress is gorgeous and would look amazingly stylish dressed up with the kind of platformy strappy 70s shoes suggested by Sole Bliis or Esska, much funkier than the boring safe nude ones. How about shoes in white/off white or red with matching clutch bag and hair clip that’s silvery or a white or red flower, silk or even real if possible and works with your daughter’s flowers? And agree with statement earrings and bracelet in silver, or possibly white or red to tone with the rest. You’re going to be a beautifully stylish MOB, much better than the conventional stiff pastel coat dress hat combo, and you always look miles better and enjoy a special day more when you feel comfortable in yourself. Tell us how you get on and have a wonderful wedding!

It’s lovely (and would have fitted right in at our formal church wedding - it’s got great daytime garden party vibes).
I’d go for a wide straw hat. Or are those wide padded headbands still in? Could look good.

The dress is lovely.
Chunky sandals are my fave.
I'd choose the bag and shoes in similar colour.

Both either. ..metallic, cream or beige/straw.
Optional hat or hair - real flowers placed by hairdresser.

Pashmina or cropped ceam jacket for evening hours.

I think the details will dress it up. A great pedicure and manicure, brows done, good lip colour and a smart handbag. Jacket rather than any sort of cardigan. Enjoy the wedding!

I don't think the type of boater suggested is the same as what people are picturing. It's been one of the main styles at a lot of race meets this year. If you put in boater hat for wedding/races, they are more boater style, than true boater.

I think it is a lovely dress. Ignore the "it's too casual" posters. Most mumsnetters only seem to go to terribly formal weddings. That dress certainly wouldn't have looked out of place at any wedding I have been to.

@TheMarriageOfAirAndFrock We are not talking about boaters for school
or river activities! The modern ones for women are wide brim and shallow crown so are really not traditional but are great for a wedding.
