From buying a denim mini skirt .

For context, I’m 47, size 10, ok legs although deathly white. Would only wear it on holiday, not with a skimpy top.

has the ship sailed?

Honestly, I think they look very basic and a bit cheap, especially past a certain age. Even with great legs - and if you are going to wear them, a bit of a tan, whether real or fake is a must. There are so many more flattering and more contemporary things to wear. Before I am leapt on, that's my honest take. On the other hand, who cares and wear whatever you like!

category12 · 17/07/2026 15:49

Do you feel good in it?

dirtytiles · 17/07/2026 15:49

I think denim shorts are more chic

OwlCalledSage · 17/07/2026 15:50

Wear would you buy such a thing? I don’t think I’ve seen a denim mini since the 80s and school discos.

Whentostarthrt · 17/07/2026 15:53

Meh, I have a denim mini and I love it. I live in jeans most of the year so it’s an easy switch for me when the jeans get too hot! It’s not a micro mini like my daughter’s, just a normal Levi’s mid thigh one.

All the youngsters are wearing them

luckylavender · 17/07/2026 15:57

If you’ve always wanted one - go for it.

TheChosenTwo · 17/07/2026 15:59

I’m 41 and have some denim dungarees dresses - so not quite a mini skirt and they are definitely not mini but above the knee by a good few inches. No one has fainted yet.
crack on - you’re on holiday, anything goes!

KittyCorncrake · 17/07/2026 16:00

Just go for it. I’m 65 and still wear shorts and short skirts and get lots of compliments.

ringliketinnitus · 17/07/2026 16:10

No way. They look awful.

The one I’ve seen is mid thigh like yours.

love the honest opinions, I was concerned I’d look like a bad extra from Benidorm

Good mix of opinions! I normally wear smartish sorts, struggle to find nice skirts. Maxi style looks bad on me and midi seems to make my calves look like tree trunks.

You're 47. If you're lucky, someday you'll be old. It could be a fond memory for you to recall your miniskirt days. Maybe there will be an increase in mini skirt days if generations to come continue to review and refuse the "am I too old for x?" notion. Get the skirt!

Sparkletastic · 17/07/2026 16:19

Denim shorts yes. Denim mini no.

Silverbirchleaf · 17/07/2026 16:23

I’d say, if it suits your body , and you have the legs, go for it.

flossiepie · 17/07/2026 17:07

If I’m brave enough I might post a photo (after false tan) for brutal feedback….
tags still on, my skin is thick

Idontjetwashthefucker · 17/07/2026 17:13

I have one, it buttons up the front, just above the knee though so not sure it counts as mini. I wear it with plain cropped t shirts in either navy or white...not too cropped though, the hem meets the waistband of the skirt.

I'm 52 and don't give a fuck, it's one of my summer staples

ringliketinnitus · 17/07/2026 17:16

What’s the point in buying something that only works if you’ve fake tanned?

GTTSR · 17/07/2026 17:16

I got a denim skort and love it. Legs aren’t even that great. Am 48…wore it on hols and pottering about in the hot weather but wouldn’t wear it anywhere “nice”

I don't like tans, fake or real. I've no opinion on whether the OP should wear a denim mini skirt but as it's a subject that comes up a lot on here I've been noticing a lot of white bare legs, all ages, all lengths of skirts and shorts and they all looked fine.

AllTheChicken · 17/07/2026 17:28

You do not need to tan at all. I hate this idea that we all need to have a tanned complexion.

But that’s not the point I’ve made.

Realistically are you going to maintain a tan all through the summer to wear a skirt? Or will you just wear it once and it ends up in landfill come winter?

ringliketinnitus · 17/07/2026 17:33

I say this as a fake tan lover (I’m going to be tanning tonight!), but I’d never buy things that have to be worn with fake tan. There’s no point because I don’t tan regularly enough to make it worth it.

Summer will be back next year.
