Does this top look stupid?

Sorry, none of my friends are clothes people and I was a jeans and t shirt person until about six months ago. I’m obviously over-thinking this. I am 41 and have lost 35kg with all the attendant loose skin situation so don’t know why I’m trying out fancy Cos poly mix elastane sweaty nightmare tops!! I find it really striking but think it might be one of those delusion articles of clothing where the wearer is obsessed but it’s objectively terrible on them. I feel that S&B will be brutally honest. It’s navy btw, possibly the pics aren’t clear enough anyway

I think it's great, but not with those trousers. The arm cut is great on you and from the waist up the cut is super flattering.

I'm less convinced about how it works over your hips but I think that might be the trousers as I say. Are they barrell/carrot/horseshoe (random other name)? If so I'd try with some wide legs or straights to se what that does to your shape.

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 01/07/2026 10:20

I like it.

MabelAnderson · 01/07/2026 10:21

I think it looks good on you, it isn’t unflattering at all. You look great .

GreenLemonade · 01/07/2026 10:22

I like the top. You look great!

ShorterMumma · 01/07/2026 10:23

You look great. The top is very flattering.

Was 35kg a typo? 🫨

Peppermintcreamz · 01/07/2026 10:23

I like it, could you possibly break it up a bit with a belt in between? Maybe in brown? It looks like there might already be a belt though, I can’t tell for sure

Bristolandlazy · 01/07/2026 10:24

It looks great, I wonder if the first poster was right and you might find better trousers or skirt to go with it, the top is lovely on you.

WalkAway7 · 01/07/2026 10:24

It’s fab on you! Well done on the weight loss!

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 01/07/2026 10:27

Top is lovely and you look fabulous in it.

May I gently suggest waxing for your moustache... 😉

HoldMyWine · 01/07/2026 10:28

It looks lovely

PetulaGordeno · 01/07/2026 10:30

You look fabulous and so does the top. Really suits your colouring.

pomeglamate · 01/07/2026 10:30

Thank you everyone! I I find it very very hard ti know what I look like atm iyswim and I feel a bit vulnerable about it because it’s a lot “cooler”/more contemporary than I usually wear

@Lifejigsaw yes they are barrel, I quite like an exaggerated silhouette and I am a pear (plus post weight loss effects mean I’m always going to need looots of room in the hip proportionate to my waist) but you are right that wide leg would be more flattering

@ShorterMumma thanks! No not a typo, I have actually lost 35kg TWICE in the last ten years but the second time had the advantage of mounjaro assistance 😅 I am like a balloon that has been stretched out too many times!

SilenceInside · 01/07/2026 10:30

I like the top, you look great in it. I agree that it might work better with different trousers as the slight balloon shape isn't quite right with the top.

Jerrybalanitis · 01/07/2026 10:31

It looks amazing but may I suggest a new bra, we always forget to replace old ones when losing weight. Top is lovely though

WhosGotTheKeysToMyBimma · 01/07/2026 10:33

It doesn't look stupid but it it doesn't fit, there is wrinkling around your breasts which indicates they are bigger than the top will accommodate.

I would try a bigger size to see if that solves the issue.

It's a nice top!

abitbloodybrighteroverthere · 01/07/2026 10:35

If I passed you in the street in this outfit I wouldn’t look twice. So it certainly doesn’t look ‘stupid’. And you look perfectly fine and toned.

But why are you insisting on a poly mix elastane sweaty nightmare top? Who’s holding a gun to your head? With all the lovely things Cos sells, surely you can find something in a fabric that doesn’t make you feel like a sweaty nightmare?

KrazyKatty · 01/07/2026 10:37

Hmm. I’m not keen on the combo as I don’t think they’re flattering for your new body shape and I totally understand your dilemma with trying out new clothes styles having lost over 4 stones myself.

Honestly, I think you need a V neck rather than anything high necked and the trousers are too loose and baggy around your bum.

For the baggy style trousers to work well, they still need to fit snugly around your hips and then drape loosely over your thighs.

pomeglamate · 01/07/2026 10:37

@WhosGotTheKeysToMyBimma thanks, the next size up is a large which definitely didn’t fit, leaves lots of gaping around the arm holes. It’s a bit of a weird cut (no surprise there Cos), completely fitted around the body then sort of square with extra material around the shoulders. It’s one of the things that gives me pause because it is a bit weird 😅

@Jerrybalanitis thanks, have just bought a bunch of new bras, this is the best I’m going to get I’m afraid! 😅

I get it OP, I also lost 35kg with Mounjaro! And love my barrel legs, but not for everything. I wear barrels with t-shirts either baggy and tucked, or slim and ending at the top of the trousers. The wide legs in jeans and workwear as I find they better suit my more formal tops.

congrats on the weight loss; life changing isn’t it!

I was going to recommend a moustache wax as well!

BringBackCatsEyes · 01/07/2026 10:42

You don’t look stupid at all, but I do think you can get a better fitting top.

Ladybyrd · 01/07/2026 10:43

No, it looks lovely.

I think the top is perfect on your boobs , you’ve lovely arms & skin tone / tan whatever ☺️ .

dudsville · 01/07/2026 10:55

I think that's a great outfit on you, I like the top paired with the trousers too! It really suits you and looks very wearable.

pomeglamate · 01/07/2026 10:56

Thanks for the input everybody, I think I’ll follow my heart and keep it as a nice going-out too and try not to feel too shy when I wear it ☺️

thanks also for the interesting input about barrel trousers, I do really like the barrel style and am partial to an exaggerated silhouette but take everyone’s point that they are not necessarily the most flattering choice

(can’t believe my beautiful moustache is getting so much hate though!!)
