@PhaedraTwo I am NOT a pensioner and my style is dubbed "pensioner chic" by my kids due to it being stuffed with CdG and other Japanese/Nordic structures😂😂
"Teenagers and students" OMFG

I don’t use chat gpt. Nor set any store by it, I go with whay the manufacturer says, and I also have no idea about envoy in Belfast. I am simply stating whay the brand says is their target market, take it up with them.,

and I also have no idea about envoy in Belfast

Anyone claiming to know about fashion and style would have heard of that shop.

It's Envoy of Belfast BTW.

You think it’s globally famous? Confused

@PhaedraTwo Really? How do you know? You are the self appointed font of all wisdom on just about any fashion thread. At least my DDs are aware of trends and sometimes set them.

Newsflash: DD2 has a degree from LCF. She most certainly does know about fashion but I don’t think we really think Seasalt is cutting edge fashion do we? It’s pretty safe middle of the road clothes aimed at “safe” non risk taking women. DD1 in particular is pretty hot on high quality fashion, but she can afford to be.

Not sure what your point is. I never said Seasalt is cutting edge. It's the sneering at the OP's perfectly nice, cotton summer dress which is so irritating.

I have clothes from Comme des Garcons, CFCL, Max Mara, Bathsheva, and similar. I''d look bloody daft tootling around Mousehole in 20 degrees wearing any of them. The OP' s dress was perfect. I'm not so insecure I have to wear "cutting edge" clothes everywhere.

The ops dress is perfectly nice, as said it is completely inoffensive. The conversation moved on to is it on trend, current etc , and no it isn’t it is also aimed at an older demographic for me I’d consider it the older woman’s fat face.

and no of course no one needs to be constantly wandering round in cutting edge fashion, but nor should we pretend that sea salt is a brand that aims at current fresh modern styles it doesn’t.

does this mean it’s horrible, no of course not. It’s a perfectly inoffensive dress, that would be impossible to look ridiculous,

Oh I don't know but it regularly features in Vogue, The Guardian, The Times, the Irish Times as one of the best independent boutiques in the UK and Ireland. It's one of the few approved stockists of Paul Harnden. So yes, I'd be surprised that anyone in the UK, interested in high end design, wasn't aware of it.

Apologies if you're furth of the UK and Ireland

Anouken · Today 08:46

I think you would look amazing. I love the print also . As it's rather 1950s retro, I would style it that way, bit more glam. Earrings, lippy, short cardigan, kitten heels for going out. Big bead necklace (very trendy) Def would not wear frumpy sandals or trainers, or hide it with a massive jumper .

Really? Not a brand I'm familiar with - had a quick look, nothing much of interest. Lots definitely not of interest

I have no comment on Seasalt.

But when an apparently sentient adult comes onto a Style and Beauty board to tell us that Comme des Garçons is for teenagers and students - I begin to think this forum is done for.

Agreed.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · Today 10:34

@abitbloodybrighteroverthere yes indeed.
Weirdly confrontational and deeply ignorant seems to be taking over here.

I agree.

@RampantIvy , Only if you choose to perceive it that way. I find it less patronising than the 'it's for pensioners' and 'wouldn't be seen dead in it'.

The dress in the OP looks like a pretty dress that will suit a variety of occasions.
I don't think it necessarily means it's boring or frumpy.

I don't like the dissing of certain brands. It feels a bit like being lectured 'It's shit because it is brandname'. IMO a dress is either nice or not.
The dress in the OP looks fine and suits the brief.

mimbleandlittlemy · Today 10:45

I had that dress in a different colourway when I was a bit bigger than I am now, and it was really flattering. Go for it.

Yeah I think so, I see it as quite similar. Fatface clothes are also perfectly fine, for me they are both inoffensive clothing, that tends to the relaxed, not really current or on trend, but fine every day wear for women who wish to blend in that day, and there is nothing wrong with that,

maybe dated is the wrong word, i think the word is unremarkable and irs personal taste. Neither of them are for me, but that’s just taste, I wear a lot of studio Nicholson, me and em, Reiss, and happily buy on vinted, or in the sales, or full price. And yes I wear daily,

im in my 50s, I find seasalt quite ageing, as I find as you get older, looking current and fresh feels more vibrant, but my sil wears seasalt clothing and the like, and I’ve never once looked at her in those outfits and thought yikes, she always looks fine, but unremarkable.

Plenty of people would dislike my clothes. I do tend to the remarkable. But Today I am wearing this dress, but in navy, it is also completely unremarkable, and many would feel a bit dull.

and that’s why I think it’s impossible to look ridiculous in the ops dress, it is a perfectly nice, unremarkable dress.

Slawbans · Today 12:03

Going out on a limb here. I think if you have a feminine face it would look nice. If your face is a bit more masculine (mine is alas, so I know this from experience) it might teeter from the Miss Honey to the Miss Trunchball. You’ll know when you try it on

StationJack · Today 12:20

The black Me+Em dress looks 'safe', as in it looks perfectly ok and would fit various situations . I wouldn't wear it but that's because the style wouldn't suit me (colour, neckline, sleeve length, dress length, fit over the bust, flared skirt etc)
I generally don't like Me+Em but it's been a while since I looked at their clothes so I'll keep an open mind.

I've not had much from FatFace. One pair of jeans and they were favourites at the time because they were comfortable and kept their shape.

RampantIvy · Today 12:25

What is wrong with looking "safe"? Confused

SaskiaWatkins · Today 12:28

I hate Seasalt because I worked for them very briefly and they treated me like shit BUT what I did discover is that women of all ages and styles shop there, definitely
not just pensioners. Lots of ladies in their early 20s but mostly in their late 30s/early 40s.

This is such a silly argument that keeps coming up on these boards, stop denigrating other women for their choice of fashion and outlets!

If you're asking me, nothing. I thought I'd already answered. You're the one who seems to have a problem with the word.

I wouldn't describe something like the pink jumpsuit in a current thread as 'safe' because it seems to be making a statement. Not a bad one but would look out of place on the school run/office/ WI meeting/ promenade/supermarket...

Yes that’s the word, it’s a safe unremarkable dress, this is it on.

I’d also say it also is aimed at an older demographic, my daughter in her twenties would never wear this. Me and em targets v similar to seasalt. But at a higher price point.

It’s feels much more current than the seasalt one due to the length and the shape though. But it’s a perfectly safe unremarkable comfortable every day dress.

What do you think of the Seasalt Charlotte dress in Inky Botanical Chalk?
Toveylove · Today 12:48

@Safarisagoody is that you in the dress? Doesn’t look merely safe, looks gorgeous and chic. Largely, perhaps, due you and your vibe there. I’d feel profoundly delighted if I looked as safe as that!

Thank you, think you’re being a bit kind, but yes I just literally took the image for this thread.

I was trying to demonstrate both are safe unremarkable dresses, and both aimed at similar demographics, but in my opinion, which I know others may disagree with, the me the me and em one feels more current and fresher due to the cut and style.

That's a lovely dress! Life is too short to worry about what other people think, if you think you look good in it, wear it! If you try it on and you don't like it, don't wear it. Make the decision based on how you feel rather than what you think other people will think.

My DM is terrible for this, she won't go for a walk now the dog isn't able because she worries people will think she is weird for going for a walk without a dog.

Do. What. You. Want.!!!

That's so sad, that an adult would feel like this. Get her out enjoying her walks!

was it me and em who made the dungarees?

Yes this is the navy version, this year they only sell the black so I don’t have a link to it in navy,

I don’t think it’s me and em for dungarees, but could be wrong,

StationJack · Today 13:39

It looks quite different to the one in your earlier post.
I would say there's an overlap with Seasalt demographic-wise.

I'd have it as 'what I'd see Rachel whose husband is a housemaster at the local boys' school wearing' look. (probably says more about me than 'Rachel')
