Doc marten sandals - do they get comfier?

I tried these on the other day and didn’t find them that comfortable but don’t know if it’s like the boots and just a case of wearing them in?

or any chunky/trendy alternatives that are comfy? Cheaper than the docs would be a bonus!!

IME,no, they were never comfortable. I sold them on vinted

lalaloopyhead · 23/06/2026 13:32

I found mine comfortable from the off to be fair - which kind to do you ?

I have VOSS II which are the softer sole ones and they are incredibly comfy, Clarrisa Quad which are DM soles and stiffer leather upper - still comfy but they are heavier and wouldn't where on a hot hot day as my feet swell too much!

Also the Gryphon which have the more solid sole but really soft nubuck upper, very comfy.

I tried the Blaire ones but I didn't like how they felt at all.

CraftyNavySeal · 23/06/2026 13:47

Which ones?

I have the Voss and Gryphon and I didn’t need to break them in at all, unlike the boots!

I have crocs sandals as well which are comfy

StylishAndBeautiful · 23/06/2026 13:50

@blythet , it depends on where the stitching is. The Blaire ones are highly unlikely to stretch.

Try the high street for alternatives. M&S, New Look, H&M ...

I have about three pairs of Voss 2 sandals in different colours as they are so comfy. Also have some Zebzag sandals which are comfy too. I rarely wear my Blaires as they rub. Probably depends on your feet.

I have Zebzags too and they were comfortable straight away. They do seem to have moved into DDs footwear rotation, though, so I haven't worn them much

Winterpeach · 23/06/2026 14:14

I have sliders.

Ah the danger of DDs with the same size feet, lol

MardyMillylala · 23/06/2026 14:36

Another vote for the Voss 2! They're the comfiest of all the Dr Martens sandals I tried & easy to dress up or down.

Blogswife · 23/06/2026 14:40

I tried them Really wanted to be able to wear them as I’m a big DM fan but they tore my feet to shreds and never got any more comfortable

watchingthishtread · 23/06/2026 14:41

There's little or no flexibility in the thick sole. Your ankle can't move either because of the strap. I don't know how are you supposed to walk comfortably without moving either your foot or ankle. Find something with either the thick sole or the ankle strap but not both.

These were Blaire. So excited to hear that Voss are comfortable - I will be getting some

Worriedaboutrayvon · 23/06/2026 16:11

I have these OP. They tore my ankles to shreds the first few times I wore them and now I don’t dare wear them.

Need to sell them. My sister has the ones with the slimmer ankle strap and they were much comfier.

WigglywagglyWanda · 23/06/2026 17:01

I have these and to be fair the first 2 weeks I put plasters on my instep as the sole was so uncomfortable.

After that they bedded into my feet and are really comfy.

My family joke that they are an heirloom as this is their fourth summer and they still look like new. Mine are a lemon colour

notacooldad · 23/06/2026 17:46

I have about 7 pairs of Doc Martens.
My birthday is in June and once my dons cottoned on that I wanted Dic candles that's all I hot for a couple of years for my birthday. So I have strap sandals and also
Sliders. I love them and have never had an issue. I wear them to death from spring to beginning of autumn. I've never had to break them in.

Imseriouslyyouguys · 23/06/2026 17:52

I’ve found mine super comfortable from the first time of wearing which I was surprised about as usually always end up with blisters and cuts from new sandals. Mine are the voss sandals.

Jamspeas · 23/06/2026 18:01

Mine are VERY uncomfortable and have not softened. Annoying.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 23/06/2026 19:08

I found my Vosses very comfy, but they were so thick I kept wobbling off them a bit.

Thankgoditsbedtyme · 23/06/2026 19:10

I have the Voss II they are the comfiest sandals Iv ever had. They were comfy from the outset but have got even more so. I used to take about 6-7 pairs of shoes on holiday now I take these and maybe some for when I just get out of pool/sea etc. they have lasted me 3 summers and still going strong. Saying that I have an unusual colour and am eyeing up the black ones. Iv just bought some dr martens Maddison sliders and I’m struggling to wear them in.

Thankgoditsbedtyme · 23/06/2026 19:13

I also have the healed ones which are beautiful but rub and blister right below my big toe nail 😭

PinkNeonSign · 23/06/2026 19:21

I have the gryphon in tan which I’ve found really comfortable.

I’ve just brought the ones home the OP has posted the link to in black, I like the look of them but I’m not sure they’re as comfy so thinking of sending in back and going for another pair of Gryphon.

Lieben · 23/06/2026 19:24

Mine have scarred my foot 😭 so uncomfortable.

I came on here to say the very same thing -
I saved up ages for mine and then got them (thankfully with some blue light discount) and I couldn’t stand them and so they went on vinted and I managed to recoup all my money back as they were limited edition leopard ones that had sold out everywhere!
