Recommendations for an elegant black dress to wear to my partner's funeral

I am very recently bereaved. To distract myself, and I know it's a distraction, I have started to plan my partner's funeral. I want it to be beautiful (I know I'm overthinking it because I'm so so sad) I want to buy a new dress that is both classical and beautiful. Black, elegant, dignified. I'm a UK 8, blonde hair, no discernable chest. There's no budget limit because we were going to get married next year and obviously that's not happening. I'm in my early sixties. And five foot six. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

I don’t have suggestions but wanted to say I’m sorry for your loss.
can you describe more what you’re looking for, shape, length etc?

I would like something sleeveless, neckline wise straight across, I mean, because I have tiny boobs anything that emphasises boobs just doesn't work for me, below the knee lengthwise.

So many beautiful dresses already.
I am so very, very sorry for your loss.
I am sure you will plan a beautiful celebration of such a valued and beloved life.

Oh my word. Such lovely dresses, thank you so much. I love them all, I think my favourites are the All Saints one (because I could legitimately wear my Doc Martens) and the Ralph Lauren one. Which is just gorgeous.

I loved him absolutely and I'm broken hearted. In some weird way I want his funeral to sort of reflect that love by taking care of every detail.

I too am very sorry for your loss.

I’ll add this from Studio Nicholson. (I wore one of their black dresses for a family funeral earlier this year.) It’s not straight across the front, but I feel it would be nice to wear nonetheless:

Wold Linen Dress in Black

Playful proportions are part of Studio Nicholson’s creative lexicon and Wold is an example of our love of clean lines and ample volume. The dress is cut from our vintage soft linen: an Italian-milled cloth composed of a yarn-dyed viscose and chosen for...

I'm so sorry to hear this OP.

By terrible coincidence I'm burying my husband next week.

I'm a similar size to you and this is the dress I have chosen.

I’m sorry for your loss. I’m not good at suggestions, but I wanted to say that obsessing about the details of the funeral is a large part of the value of the ceremony. Having moments of distraction is healthy as is having a set of hours to focus your grief. When I have not had that event and the ability to focus on things like clothing, even as just a guest, it has always been harder to really process my grief.

I am truly sorry for your loss, I hope that looking at and maybe choosing one of the beautiful dresses distracts you for a few moments. Thinking of you x
