What shoes do you wear for summer nights in pub gardens?

Is there such a thing as a comfortable and stylish wedge sandal.

I get the impression that espadrilles are unpopular in style and beauty. Is that the wedge, the strings, or grassy plaits?

I would like a bit of a heel for going out in summer, a wedge because I am often walking and on grass so they are practical and wearable. Worn with summer outfits, dresses, wide leg floaty trousers, denim shorts to make them more evening than my trainers, flip flops and walking sandals.

Is that a thing?

Wellingtons - it always seem to rain where we live, as soon as we have found a table.

FallenNight · 12/06/2026 11:49

To be fair my usual is some walking trainers that are rain proof so I am not far off your choice @TwoLeftSocksWithHoles but I fancied a change.

But wedge espadrilles are very uncomfortable! I love them but have never found a pair that don’t rub and cause blisters.

FallenNight · 12/06/2026 11:51

@Peasinthefreezer result, that makes life easier!

I have some wedge espadrilles from Ugg that are awesomely comfy. Must dig them out!

FallenNight · 12/06/2026 11:55

@DosPerros I also have exceedingly fat short and stubby feet that are high in the instep. Which does cause problems. I am basically a shaved hobbit. So TwoLeftSocksWithHoles suggestion of is probably better for everyone around me.

If the wedge espridrille is in I am on a search to see who will make a comfy one.

Flip flops? Sandals?

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 12/06/2026 12:00

I bought some very comfortable wedges from Clark’s. They are tan, suede and strappy rather than a solid front part.

Grace026 · 12/06/2026 12:15

I love a wedge for going out in summer evenings. I have bought all mine from New Look, they have some lovely ones!

Doesitfloat · 12/06/2026 12:18

Trainers with socks and long trousers. I’ve never yet sat in a pub garden at night and not been eaten alive by mosquitos

FallenNight · 12/06/2026 12:34

@Doesitfloat I like on a river bank surrounded by trees, I apply mosquito spray more often than sun screen.

I love me a wedge espradrille! Also Swedish clogs - the open toe type with a low heel. Plus strappy sandals.

Honeyhonay · 12/06/2026 15:26

I generally wear trainers or a nice sandal in good weather. Haven’t seen someone in an espadrille in years.
Generally pub gardens aren’t massively dressy and you won’t see many heels, but wear what you like and are comfortable in.

Jllllllll · 12/06/2026 17:16

Trainers. Nice ones not sports ones but either trainers flip flops or Birkenstocks depending on the weather

Squ1ggle · 12/06/2026 17:18

I have some of these which are pretty comfy. The straps are soft suede and stretchy so dont dig in. I avoid heels at all costs as my feet get so sore but even I can manage a bit of a wander around in these

Trainers for me!

VividDeer · 12/06/2026 17:25

Trainers or sandals. Pubs near me and very casual

118bd · 12/06/2026 17:27

I’ve some Birkenstocks with a slight wedge on them that get worn constantly over the summer beer garden trips

Lentilcakes · 12/06/2026 17:31

Trainers?

hipposcanweartutus · 12/06/2026 18:21

wedge espadrilles all the way! I love them and they are comfortable!

Feralbookworm · 12/06/2026 18:32

I love my Birkenstocks or nice adidas trainers. I shattered my ankle years ago so heels are a no go. Even a little short cowboy boot with a nice dress for a kinda boho style is nice

Krikneleh · 12/06/2026 22:27

Swedish Hasbeens. Can be worn with dresses, jeans or trousers. https://www.swedishhasbeens.com/outletsale/all-outlet?srsltid=AfmBOoq-foe8Wbbm88oExznUn_O3hwq7dWGh0Du0f6fCPl795_13RBEb

I have these too, the comfiest heels I’ve ever owned! I wouldn’t wear them to a pub garden though, trainers or flat sandals all the way.

EnidVance · 13/06/2026 09:21

Trainers. Pub gardens are casual where I am.
