Impossible to find stylish walking sandals?

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 22/05/2026 08:48

I think this probably gets asked every summer but does anyone have any recommendations for a good pair of sandals for lots of walking . I'm tempted to buy an actual pair of hiking/action ones and just accept that they will be ugly. I keep seeing these Fitflop ones advertised and wonder about them

https://www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/f-mode-go-leopard-adjustable-webbing-z-strap-sandals-p-E1P#D20

I do have a pair of Fitflop trainers and sandals for work that I find comfortable for all day general wear so maybe that is the way to go but they are just SO utilitarian.

Have I missed a pair out there that are genuinely good for all day walking but do actually look at least quite nice?

I absolutely love the Woden sandals. Does anyone know how wide fitting they are?

Allonthesametrain · 24/05/2026 21:51

Walking sandles aren't designed to be glamorous, so maybe just look for comfortable ones like pavers/skechers.

I love my Tevas. I have a variety of styles, some more hiking friendly, others much more of a normal sandal but I find them all very comfortable (and I do a lot of walking!). The 'hurricane' style of Tevas is much more 'walking-boot-but-sandals'), but the originals are much more for day-to-day wear but still well fitting to the foot. I like the hurricane style the best for comfort... I've just bought this pair I'll link Peach Tevas but almost bought these pink tevas. These are the teva originals Teva originals.

Another Teva fan here. I have a few pairs of originals, and I bloody love them. I think they look cool but they're so comfy I don't care if they're fashionable or not TBH.

Sorry. Realised I was obviously too vague..I mean mainly sightseeing - perhaps a bit of coastal/rural walking.

I like tevas etc but for me they are the equivalent of hiking boots which I wouldn't want to wear for a day out that wasn't 'a walk'.

I'd like some that are super comfy and I can walk miles in but would still look good when I'm sitting in a beach bar/pavement cafe.

I'm going on holiday this summer just me and DH for the first time in over 20 years. We'd like to use the opportunity to do lots of walking without DC moaning but I'd also like to be a bit glam if possible. I suspect there is no perfect solution

Really you are asking for the impossible. Only specialist walking sandals would be good for long rugged walks. If you are walking around cities then I would suggest trainers anyway as your feet will get dirty in sandals.

Yetone · 25/05/2026 00:05

The Tevas that pp have suggested look find and look far more fashionable than my walking sandals that I wear for serious walking.

TimewastingTea · 25/05/2026 09:17

I have some sketchers ones that are very comfy. Some sketchers look nicer than others, got mine from next.

Has anyone mentioned Saltwater sandals OP? I have the ones with a thicker rubber sole ‘Swimmer’ I think, and I can walk for miles in them. Lots of colours including metallic if you want something that will also do for evenings. They last for years too. www.salt-watersandals.co.uk/products/swimmer-rose-gold-womens-sandal

Ha! I also agree with this though I have the urinal thin soles and I can walk for miles in them. Plus wear them as regular sandals..

NoHunsHereHun · 25/05/2026 12:36

I do still wear my original sole ones, but my flat feet infinitely prefer the rubber soles. SW over my old tevas any day, I’m horrified* at some of the ‘stylish’ suggestions in this thread 🤣
*clearly I’m not actually

I’m intrigued by how this actually works? What does it do?!

It creates a barrier between where shoes/sandals rub and it stops a blister appearing. Honestly until I tried this years ago I resigned myself to blisters. But it really works. Even on tighter fitting footwear.

Intriguing! So do you put it on when you can feel a particular toe is starting to hurt or everywhere if you don’t know where they might rub? Does it not make your feet slimy?

TheDogsMother · 25/05/2026 13:25

I’ve just bought these same sandals to do a rugged sponsored walk in. They are pretty ugly TBF 🤣. I do most of my walking in Fitflop Flatform fisherman’s sandals I bought from them last year and they have resolved the plantar fasciitis.

I bought these as didnt want to risk plantar again. Really comfy

I wish I had seen these first.

Sorry, which sandals?

TheDogsMother · 25/05/2026 14:46

Ahhh sorry, I thought mine were the same as the sandals in OP’s original link but I can see those are leopard print. Mine are the Neo D Hyker which are unlovely but I hope will be perfect for a long rugged walk.

MitMopse · 25/05/2026 15:34

I massively recommend Moshulu (a Mumsnet recommendation!) Survived Disneyland happily in mine! Similar price point to Birkenstock but I prefer the look. I think they are made in the UK and the ordering and delivery was great. Still going strong two years later.

PensionPuzzle · 25/05/2026 19:55

I have Teva Verra for when comfort is the priority and Teva original slim (I think) for when I need something slightly less outdoorsy.

I hammered my last pair of Tevas and they lasted at least five years so I was quite happy to go again with them! I like the look of some of the thinner strap Merrels but I've never owned a pair because I've been happy with Teva.

SwirlyGates · 26/05/2026 10:37

Oh no, you've all made me buy some new sandals! I have had my current Merrell walking sandals for over 20 years so I suppose I can justify it lol.

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 26/05/2026 10:47

Trespass Kimbra’s. Nice looking and comfortable (even for my princess feet). In fact 22 year old daughter has stolen them and bought her Uni flatmate a pair, so they can’t be too ugly!

BambinaCucina · 27/05/2026 21:08

I managed 15-20k steps a day around the amalfi coast in the haviana urban flash

I wore them for everything from being around the pool, to sightseeing, and going out to dinner.

I like the look of the fishermen, gracie, tevas and dune sandals mentioned upthread. I'm off for a spend 😂

I bought a pair of Tevas for a city break with DS which I knew would involve a lot of walking. Within 20 mins of getting off the metro in a big US city a total stranger had walked up, said "nice sandals lady" and pissed himself laughing Blush. DS 16 was mortified. I couldn't give a crap. But the bloke was right- let's not kid ourselves that they are anything other than sensible walking shoes. Comfy maybe, but stylish? No.

I think the slim leather ones are more stylish, as the straps are really slender and they are so simple . I have them in Olive leather and I don’t like the normal more sporty looking tevas.
OP have a look at Angulus. Also Gabor which are considered a bit frumpy on here, but I have tricky feet so looked at Gabor after they were suggested by my best friend who also has tricky and painful feet. I bought a pair with a slight low wedge heel, very simple, soft twisted leather, that worked for walking a lot around Italy. They looked smart enough for wearing to dinner too. Like many sandals they look much nicer on than they do in photos. My dd (21) whose feet hurt in very flat shoes, has the same style.

elb1504 · 28/05/2026 14:56

I have the fitflop ones the OP linked and currently on holiday and have walked a fair way in them and they are comfy! I've been wearing with shorts/dresses everything and think they look quite good! Never found a pair of sandals so comfy.

AWellReadWoman · 28/05/2026 20:27

Another Teva fan here! I've had my pair of originals for 3 years now and they are so comfortable. Mine have almost neon pi I, purple and orange straps, don't think they do that cour way anymore. Walked miles in them on Saturday and they held up really well.

Dliplop · 29/05/2026 02:53

I wear Teva slim in a nude leather. I do sometimes get rubbing from a strap and put a plaster on.

HopeForTheBest · 29/05/2026 15:53

I've had these for 6 years now: Jack Wolfskin Lakewood Sandals. The straps are thinner than on any walking sandals I've had before, they look more "delicate" irl than on that photo, so go really well with summer dresses and skirts, city walking etc. But I've also been on mountain hikes with them, walked for miles and miles, they are waterproof, don't fade or (like one pair) leak dye!! in the rain....they are just now beginning to show slight signs of wear. Looking to replace them, I see that particular style isn't on the Jack Wolfskin website any more, but there is a similar looking one from Sketchers that might be worth looking at too.

I think stylish and walking don't especially go hand in hand 🤣 I have a pair of sketchers sandals which are super comfy and I think look pretty nice with a dress. However if I was going on a serious hike I would still wear proper walking boots with ankle support and grip even if I'm in a hot country. I've hiked in 30 degree temperatures and these were what I found most comfortable. I've broken my ankle before just tripping down a couple of steps whilst I was in trainers and it's made me super cautious
