Impossible to find stylish walking sandals?

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 22/05/2026 08:48

I think this probably gets asked every summer but does anyone have any recommendations for a good pair of sandals for lots of walking . I'm tempted to buy an actual pair of hiking/action ones and just accept that they will be ugly. I keep seeing these Fitflop ones advertised and wonder about them

https://www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/f-mode-go-leopard-adjustable-webbing-z-strap-sandals-p-E1P#D20

I do have a pair of Fitflop trainers and sandals for work that I find comfortable for all day general wear so maybe that is the way to go but they are just SO utilitarian.

Have I missed a pair out there that are genuinely good for all day walking but do actually look at least quite nice?

I bought a pair from Aeyde which were pricey but so comfortable.

Sketchers go walk sandals

Love the Merrells above, and I have Keens for proper non-boot walking in the summer - 15k steps and upwards.

For looking smarter walking around town, Hotter Tourist - I have wide feet and bunions but they work for me.

The timberland sandals are really comfy i also like the slim Tevas

Silverbirchleaf · 22/05/2026 20:43

I dislike opened-toe sandals, hence have brought these. Not good for trekking up
mountains, but fine for urban trekking, walking along coastal promenades etc. I live in them all summer.

Teva

I have these and have walked miles in them they are incredibly comfortable. I don’t think they look too great though and for this I prefer Teva Tirra.

Artesia · 22/05/2026 21:45

I bought a pair of Tevas for a city break with DS which I knew would involve a lot of walking. Within 20 mins of getting off the metro in a big US city a total stranger had walked up, said "nice sandals lady" and pissed himself laughing Blush. DS 16 was mortified. I couldn't give a crap. But the bloke was right- let's not kid ourselves that they are anything other than sensible walking shoes. Comfy maybe, but stylish? No.

Sorry. Realised I was obviously too vague..I mean mainly sightseeing - perhaps a bit of coastal/rural walking.

I like tevas etc but for me they are the equivalent of hiking boots which I wouldn't want to wear for a day out that wasn't 'a walk'.

I'd like some that are super comfy and I can walk miles in but would still look good when I'm sitting in a beach bar/pavement cafe.

I'm going on holiday this summer just me and DH for the first time in over 20 years. We'd like to use the opportunity to do lots of walking without DC moaning but I'd also like to be a bit glam if possible. I suspect there is no perfect solution

My tevas are plain black and look quite like the ones you’ve shared. I think those are a good compromise.

No idea why the link is so long but these are excellent when you are only taking hand luggage and have limited room. They cope with uneven terrain and look pretty enough to go out to dinner in the evening.

StrictlyCoffee · 22/05/2026 22:35

I wear Keen sandals, so no idea why I opened this as they’re very ugly 😂

Doglover254 · 22/05/2026 22:44

Try crocs sandals, I know everyone hates crocs but give them a go the strappy ones are light and comfortable and simple. I wore them for years, walked miles on city trips and cross country too and never got blisters. I had a black pair and in summer they were fine for smart casual (well my kind of smart casual!) Only sad that they now don't work with my bunyan :(

Doglover254 · 22/05/2026 22:46

Here's the link to the pair I had versions of for years

I’m on my third pair of Merrell Kahuna sandals. Comfort & performance are most important to me so I completely appreciate they may not suit your requirements. I’m a long distance walker so need sandals that don’t hold me back.

I've worn Hotter Tourists for years. Very, very comfortable. I really don't like the rubbery, velcro, outdoorsy look of proper walking sandals, far too 'Scout leader on pack holiday' for me. And I don't do proper hiking on holiday anyway, just walking.

travailtotravel · 22/05/2026 22:50

My Tevas are on year 3. Literally hundreds of miles out if them. Likewise my cork based moshulu ginger ales. Pick your poison....

The average american man isn;t stylish either.

I wear Teva original slim, and wouldn't say they are stylish, but think look nice enough and not purely functional.

I bought these as didnt want to risk plantar again. Really comfy

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Yesterday 06:06

I got fake plastic Birkenstocks which for some reason are good with my recovered plantar fasciitis. The other day I found them in tesco with a faux tortoiseshell buckle and bought them. Walked a long way in them yesterday and so comfy. If anything rubs your feet use the Compeed anti blister stick, it really works and I wish it’d been around when I was younger!

These look good. How much arch support is there? I have one (!) flat foot that needs a lot of help.

Lovelyone1 · Yesterday 08:59

I got a pair of black Sketchers arch fit. They were instantly comfy. I wear them to work every day and do a lot of walking.
