Too white for a wedding?

KookyOliveSwan · 15/05/2026 15:10

I have 4 weddings to go to this summer, so I’m looking for a dress that I can wear to all of them.
I’ve fallen in love with this one, but is it too white/cream: https://www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/product/zimmermann/dresses/midi-dresses/floral-print-lace-paneled-cotton-voile-midi-dress/46376663162888639

I wouldn’t choose white or cream accessories, and for the church wedding I’d wear a sage coloured jacket with it.

It definitely isn’t bridal, but is it still too white?

It's not white. Very pretty dress and lovely for a wedding.

Overtheatlantic · 15/05/2026 15:12

It’s gorgeous but there are so many thousands of dresses out there to choose from. I would find another one.

foreversunshine · 15/05/2026 15:12

Generally, if you need to ask, just don't wear it. There are millions of other dresses and dozens of other colours to choose from.

Why opt for a cream dress for 4 weddings?

cramptramp · 15/05/2026 15:13

I think it’s too white for a wedding.

Catlover1705 · 15/05/2026 15:14

It's beautiful and perfect for a wedding in my opinion. As long as you have colourful accessories it will be fine.

Apileofballyhoo · 15/05/2026 15:14

I think it's fine!

Lindy2 · 15/05/2026 15:14

I think it's very nice.

With a sage jacket or a wrap or jacket in another of the pastel colours on the dress you would be absolutely fine in my opinion.

Tryagain26 · 15/05/2026 15:14

It's beautiful and very suitable for a wedding

flabbypea · 15/05/2026 15:16

I think the colours fine but it’s more holiday attire than wedding. Bit too casual

Maybe because she is spending a lot money and she doesn't want to spend it on something she doesn't love. She loves that dress and it looks very suitable for a summer wedding

DappledThings · 15/05/2026 15:17

Totally fine. People are mad about the white thing. It doesn't look remotely bridal.

Would you spend over £600 on a casual dress?

Bristolandlazy · 15/05/2026 15:18

That's gorgeous and perfect for a wedding. It's beautiful.

Stoicandhappy · 15/05/2026 15:19

Nope. People will slag you off behind your back.

Overtheatlantic · 15/05/2026 15:20

It’s not about looking bridal; I keep seeing that on here from people who don’t understand the rule. How can it be so hard to not wear white or cream to another woman’s wedding?

abracadabra1980 · 15/05/2026 15:20

Absolutely gorgeous - I can't imagine a single person that I know being pissed off at that dress (or any dress) being worn at a wedding? Where does the 'no white/no cream' rule come from because it simply doesn't exist in my region?

Overtheatlantic · 15/05/2026 15:22

I don’t know the origin but I was aware of it in my teens in the 80s in the U.S.

LaburnumAnagyroides · 15/05/2026 15:23

Its not remotely bridal. Especially by the time you have a jacket or wrap and maybe a big old hat on top. Anyone confusing you with a bride would need a trip to Specsavers.

Boxcan · 15/05/2026 15:24

I think it is a bit bridal, especially with the lace. I can see myself wearing something like that as a mature bride at an informal wedding

I don't think it's suitable for a wedding. As do several others on this thread.

The OP doesn't know if all 4 brides will think it's suitable for a wedding, and it's really their opinions that matter. So why spend £600+ for a dress that may indeed not be suitable? I'm sure its not the only dress in the whole world that she likes 🙄

What is the no white "rule" about if not about looking bridal?

FruAashild · 15/05/2026 15:26

I feel like people from the US shouldn't answer these questions because they have such a strict version of 'no white anywhere ever' but will happily wear black to wedding.

Anyway, that is a peach floral dress and nobody will bat an eyelid at that in the UK.

Overtheatlantic · 15/05/2026 15:29

It’s about the colour not the style. I wouldn’t wear a white trouser suit to a wedding. I got married in cream silk suit, dress with a jacket. There was a guest who wore a white dress. It wasn’t bridal in style but it was white. Looking back I think she just didn’t know.

zebrastripesarefun · 15/05/2026 15:29

It’s not a self coloured white dress. It’s lovely for a summer wedding just wear colourful accessories
