I love it. I suspect if you are tall, willowy and otherwise well turned out it will look great, if you are on the shorter side or carrying any weight it might not do you any favours.

Yes, don't forget if you're on the shorter side or, god forbid, carrying a few extra pounds, to always dress only in shapeless garments, preferably black so you don't stand out too much...

Wear it, OP! It's joyful!

I am a 12-14 but trying to lose weight. Stuff it though it’s getting worn!

A lady on social media Robynmia (tik Tok, instagram) she does a lot of styling clothes she bought from a charity shop and she puts outfits together you would never think of and looks amazing... This is definitely up her street , ignore the haters, big up the charity shop bargains!

This was her styling a similar dress recently.

I love it. I love gingham but DH absolutely hates it, and as he is not usually that fussed what I wear, I avoid it. But I am jealous of your find. I'd love to wear that. Gorgeous happy retro 1970s summer days vibe.

Fernie6491 · 13/05/2026 12:46

oh dear! Shades of 'Oklahoma!' or 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' I'm afraid😄

UnctuousUnicorns · 13/05/2026 12:50

Sorry, but gingham just gives me school summer dress vibes.

Think they’re in now and I like it. With boyish accessories.

Gingham is a basic summer staple !
My daughter 24 has 3 of these and she always looks lovely and gets a lot of compliments when she wears them !
She wears them with high neck tank tops waist jewellery belts and doc martins sandals !

That sounds lovely! I'm mid 50s and would wear with vest tops/band t-shirts hi tops/converse chunky sandals.

WindyMillerDrinksCider · 13/05/2026 16:50

Loads of gingham in the shops at the moment.

Until I googled I hadn’t noticed. I barely go to shops these days.

I love it! I'd go classic with a white t or white shirt & either trainers or mary janes, but you could do some colour blocking with a hot pink or orange t shirt

WhisperingAngelisnotbad · 13/05/2026 19:59

I had one like that circa 1978. But I had a little bit of white lace that peeped under the bottom.

Oh, a band tshirt is a good call.

I've got a red gingham dress so am now browsing Vinted for different jumpers and sweatshirts to wear over it!

ThePlantPotter · 14/05/2026 11:31

I think it's lovely, I've got a similar one from nobody's child in black and cream. There's lots of gingham print around this year

SunConure · 14/05/2026 11:54

I quite like it

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/05/2026 13:24

Can’t seem to share but got a red t shirt from H&M today and have an &other stories cropped red tie top coming soon.

I've got a red and white gingham maxi skirt and I wear it with a very pale blue t-shirt - still fresh but different from white. I also like red with coral for summer, or a pale yellow might work.

I’ve got a white vest top but no white t. I also have gold hoop Huggies, red bead necklace and red beaded bracelet and a Red Crescent bag. Would hi top trainers look silly with it?

That all sounds great. I love high top trainers with maxi skirts & dresses. I wear my neutral converse boots with long dresses. Definitely don't think you'll look silly!
