Jeans - wtf is going on?

WTF if going on with jeans?

Why are they all messing with my lady parts? Like literally squishing and smooshing them in not a pleasant way. My poor parts feel a little bruised and chaffed.

  1. I’m not wearing small knickers
  2. sizing up or down makes no difference
  3. this is from m and s pricing upwards (via John Lewis to Me +Em)

Has the COL shortened gussets?
have my perimeno labia grown to ridiculous sizes?
is it just me?

What I would like to know is what has happened to all the mid rise jeans?? 👖 impossible to find.

I quite like high rise but most high rise are too high for me

I agree. I’m a shortarse and menopause has stolen my waist. I look like R2D2 in high rise jeans.

Justthistime1234 · 13/05/2026 18:06

Yes me too! I bought Sezane ones which fitted fine everywhere else and my husband said you can’t wear those out…. I also lost about half a stone too since getting them and they’re now loose around the hips but leave me screaming inside still whenever I sit down. Who is designing these??

RainStrops · 13/05/2026 18:12

I don’t have this! I am five 2 and have a bit of a tummy. I buy mid/high rise (I think) from Reiss petite and Uniqlo. No crotch issues!

suburburban · 13/05/2026 18:16

Yes I’m long waisted and funny about crotches

i gave up with M&S this year for this reason

white stuff are better on me

EnduringEthel · 13/05/2026 18:18

ETA I am not remotely fashionable.

M&S Per Una Girlfriend Jeans do not cause this issue.

So comfy I have bought three pairs.

DonTBeacunt · 13/05/2026 18:22

Do you think it’s because “skinny”‘jeans had some form of stretch to them but more recent jeans don’t have this stretch? Maybe we’ve been spoilt by stretchy jeans?

OP posts:
EnduringEthel · 13/05/2026 18:37

No, I don't think it is that, I think you must be buying jeans that aren't quite the right fit for your shape/rise.

The per una jeans linked to are made from 72% cotton, 27% lyocell, 1% elastane, beautifully soft, little bit of stretch.

MotherWol · 13/05/2026 18:41

Levis 501 90s are great - they don't have elastane so don't stretch and go baggy, I found I needed to try a few to get the sizing right, as they're on measurements not dress size. Straight leg, relaxed but not baggy, mid rise, and easy to style. I don't really want to be buying new jeans every year when trends change, so a classic style works better for me.

dudsville · 13/05/2026 20:36

I'm guessing from reading the thread that we're a range of ages on here? I say that because my theory was based on being older. Around my mid 40s I freaked out, felt too contained/constrained/constricted, etc., and had to change all my trousers. I hadn't changed size, but everything felt and wore differently.

GellerYeller · 13/05/2026 20:44

Yes- Zara bootcut do this to me. Their straight leg styles, less so. H and M high waist work, just.
It’s so hard to find mid rise now. Either low or high and ultra high are ubiquitous.
Worse still, I forget that my going out jeans are like cheese cutters till I’m almost out the door and it’s too late to change…

jamestheleastofall · 13/05/2026 21:21

Just heard DW exclaiming at this thread. She also suffers as others have posted..
Thought I would tell you about men's jeans, Sainsbury used to have hard wearing comfortable working jeans. Latest ones are fine except the zip is too short it needs to go another 2 inches lower. Can be very uncomfortable going to the loo, sharp teeth in the track.

Do you think that’s why older women used to wear slacks. Not for me

Slacks were a thing in and if themselves weren't they. Those entire polyester outfits that must have been so comfortable, but obviously a nightmare. Anyway, maybe, but I also won't wear leggings for similar reasons. I think it is about the rise.

ohwhatthehelly · 13/05/2026 21:43

Oh no we are hitting slacks age!

I have a couple of pairs of M and S barrel and even they were giving me camel toe.

i took it as a sign to lose weight and have lost a stone and they are ok now.

Another vote for Levi’s though. Long body big arse here and they seem to be cut well despite not being stretch denim.

DonTBeacunt · 13/05/2026 22:06

It’s not even a camel toe as such - it’s not visible because I am sitting, it’s just that pre Covid sitting in jeans all day wasn’t uncomfortable, now it’s just not comfortable at all, I can’t wait to get the fuckers off. And this is a variety of styles and sizes.

Im going to have to spend a fortune in time and money finding the right jeans aren’t I? The only comfy ones are 10 year old 7for mankind straight legs I’ve got. I’m no longer in the 7for mankind kind of a budget 😢
but I’m you to give h and m a go.

or I’m going to lobby my MP

I am loving the changing winds of fashion this time.

I've spent 15 years in jeans that do up on my ribs and make my bum look like it starts at my shoulder blades!

LemonyCurd · 13/05/2026 22:21

Discobooloo · 11/05/2026 19:48

Levi's ribcage

This. I honestly thought I was too fat/lumpy/weird to wear jeans, had a long chat with AI one night, and fed it some unflattering photos. It recommended these jeans (straight leg, which blew my mind - with these legs?!) so I ordered some. Boom. Best jeans ever.

DogBagKite · 13/05/2026 22:27

I agree that it's definitely a thing, I also think it's the lack of stretch in current styles. All my skinny jeans have stretch in them, and they are so soft, all my newer straight leg and wide leg jeans are hard and scratchy in comparison regardless of the fit and waist. They all feel like rough industrial work clothes. I miss soft stretchy jeans.

Same!! I thought it was because I was wearing a small size for my height. Mine are Levis, I love them in everyway except that they almost cut me in half, especially when fresh washing. I'm constantly readjusting. 😫😫

Pinnacles · 14/05/2026 07:40

Oh my days I have had this so much with M&S that I've switched to Sainsbury's (roomier btw). Even the barrel leg and high waisted options somehow were just really tight across the crotch area, no matter whether a 16 or 18.

Tryingtobenormal124 · 14/05/2026 07:45

Next have mid to high rise jeans. Im not aware of ever buying low rise ftom there

Snap. New Levis high rise wide legs. Encouraged by the shop assistant to size down because they stretch with wear. Not on that seam that goes between your legs they don’t. Wish I’d never bought the overpriced things.

wobblychristmastree · 14/05/2026 07:51

Have you tried Boden?

OrangeJellySnakes · 14/05/2026 07:52

zara trousers do this to me too - maybe Spanish women have a shorter distance between their vulva and waist?

I just bought a M and S long swimming costume which is much better for my poor bits. I’m not even tall, I must just be oddly proportioned
