What brands have good quality clothes that I can get in the sale or on vinted?

What are your go to brands for clothing?

I recently bought some lovely summer dresses in the white stuff sale, I also bought a good bit in the M&S/ Nobody child sale a few months ago.

I have also picked up a boden dress and cardigan from Vinted.

I am 'over' wearing very cheap clothing. But I am on a cheap clothing salary!

I am trying to make a 'list' of places to keep an eye out for on vinted or sales.

Any advice will be gratefully received!

ive used Vinted to buy a whole new wardrobe, I did the following to get organised.
took all my measurements and I have a perfect fit jacket which is my template as I love jackets.
researched different styles to get a feel for what I wanted to wear so now most of my clothes work well together as they have the same aesthetic.
selected a restricted colour palette which all works - navy black cobalt white and burgundy with the odd Green and red
stopped wearing patterns and restricted them to scarves
got a list of brands with quite a few European labels
use a phone app to record my purchases and outfits
Vinted has enabled me to uplevel the brands I buy.

I wear all of these brands & find they, on the whole, beautiully made with good fabrics & finishes, and they last for years

I look after my clothes & know what suits me & while i like to refresh my look with a nod to what's current, i also wear things for many years.

Why do you say these brands are style over substance? I'm intrigued.

What is your style?

I find Hobbs is pretty good on Vinted for work clothes. Some Ralph Lauren jumpers can be reasonable. I wasn;t overly impressed with Sezanne. They are good quality but I didn't like the style at all and the knitwear felt itchy.

Older M & S - I used to swear by M & S trousers for work but they changed the styles and now they are not as good. Plus the t shirts I bought years ago were greatquality but ones today are thin.

Jaeger is another to look out for.

I personally find vinted overwhelming. There's just too much to sift through & the images are usually so crap.

My friend loves it & has reinvented how she manages her wardrobe. She'll buy a beautiful but distinctive dress or top, wear it several times to events or occasions & then immediately sell & buy a different one. So she always has lovely things to wear

I, on the other hand, tend to buy things in sales directly from the brand & a lot of thr time i buty things that work with what i already have to take it in a new direction.

@EleanorMc67 thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed post! I am certainly only finding my 'own style' again. For around 5 years I was either pregnant or breastfeeding so comfort was my main interest.

I have really expanded my wardrobe. Largely with boden/ hobbs/ white stuff dresses. I love colours and patterns. As a teenager I was often told I certainly had my own style - and not on a complimentary way 😂 . But I love how my (new to me) dresses are making me feel. I also got a yellow lighthouse raincoat in amazing condition that I could never have afforded new.

Today I am wearing a blue/ white dress with a pineapple pattern. I have learnt what sort of shapes suit my body and leaned into that.

I did get a few bits in the M&S sale but 2nd hand IMO is the way to go

That’s interesting. I’ve had some excellent clothes from Tu, and they have been my go-to brand for jeans for about 10 years.

I've also had to rebuild a wardrobe that fits. Agree with others that Vinted has been a godsend along with the charity shops. I suit classic shapes so am not chasing the latest fashions and never have really. In terms of quality I like old M and S , some old Per Una and Autograph , old Jigsaw and Hobbs ,old Phase 8 and Boden , old John Lewis and Pure. 20 to 25 years ago the quality was excellent. Some of the older Windsmoor , precis ans East stuff is good too.I also rate old Kettlewell for basic wrap tops and if I do have have to buy these new my first point of call is Urkye. They're a polish firm and I must have had 12 tops from them in recent years. They wash and wear brilliantly.
