What the hell are Jorts?!

I just want knee length denim shorts. Which appear to no longer exist! Instead it’s Jorts.

I detest these bloody ridiculous portmanteau words. Jorts, jeggings, skorts, shackets. Just fuck off!

Rafiel · Yesterday 07:55

They're hideous.

If you don't like your thighs, wear some linen trousers so you at least look like a grown up, not an oversized toddler!

LifeOnTheVeg · Yesterday 07:55

Ah, I only came on to post the Will Ferrel/ Jimmy Fallon clip, but see I've been beaten to it!

I now want a pair of jorts.

I asked DS15, and he knew about jorts.

Falifornia · Yesterday 08:23

@ToddlerteapleaseSainsbury's!! Had a fab pair from there about 4 years ago which I’ve worn to death. Noticed they have them back in stock and will be picking a second pair up this week. Basically knee length jeans you can fold yourself or wear unfolded 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Sound like a name M&S would use when trying to make dowdy awful basics sound cool like they did with Jeggings. Unless you’re under 30 and a size 10 or below I’d reconsider Jorts.

boatyardblues · Yesterday 08:29

See, I think jorts are baggier than the Next knee length jeggings posted above. My teen/young adult sons’ jorts are way baggier.

This is the second year they have been in the shops. Last year they were for teens mainly. This year they have expanded to women's wear.

They look very cool on slim teens. I don't think they'll be flattering on a small, overweight woman (me) though.

They've been for sale as women's wear for about 3 years now.

Amberlynnswashcloth · Yesterday 09:08

Same with boyswear. They're all excessively wide or 'barrel' style which look ridiculous on my DC9 who has long skinny legs and narrow hips (hence why we're looking for the longer denim shorts as they're a more flattering shape).

Is this what you actually want? I bought them a couple of weeks ago:

These already have a name I thought, I'd call them pedal pushers?

Oh have they? I’ve only seen them in the mainstream shops (that I shop in) this year. One of my very slim teens worse them last year and I think they look great.

They suit some people.

Skorts too look amazing on slim, tanned girls and women. Not the sport material ones obv. And neither will ever look good on my pasty, fat legs!

I think pedal pushers are a bit longer, just below the knee.

Wicked123 · Yesterday 09:50

I seen a meme that said “cut my jeans into pieces, this is my ass in jorts” - be honest, who sang that to Papa Roach or was it just me 🤣

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · Yesterday 09:57

I think I had the Jorts after a suspect meal in a local restaurant.

Ohjailer · Yesterday 10:15

There is of course also the Skort. Which is a cross between a skirt and shorts.

I loved pedal pushers in the 80s. I wish they’d make a comeback.

Creepybookworm · Yesterday 10:22

Not to show my great age but I would look like Lofty from It Ain't Half Hot Mum.

Shithotlawyer · Yesterday 10:31

I thought pedal pushers had a sort of closed knee like knickerbockers. I had some cool tartan ones in the 80s...

I want tartan one now😀

Jorts are what I buy my teenage son from Hollister. Hugely baggy, coming to just under the knee.

StylishAndBeautiful · Yesterday 10:53

Not knee-length denim shorts but I thought you might want to see these horrors:
I tried on this season's ugly denim trend - and the results surprised me

Yes me too - I think of jorts as a teenage / skater boy thing. My kids and the teens I see round here wear them baggy, low slung and slightly below the knee. Being 16 helps!!

Itsahardknocklifeforus · Yesterday 11:28

*Cherrypie0210 Bermudas are not baggy. Jorts are. *
