What to wear as mother of the bride for a quirky wedding

My daughter is getting married beginning of September . It’s going to be a quirky wedding , she has lots of weird and wonderful friends. Wedding will be colourful and diverse . All on a budget as they are saving for a house but money spent where it needs to be spent on the things that matter . As the mother of the bride , a casual dressing 60 year old , and fairly conservative when it comes to formal outfits I am lost as to what I should wear . I’m usually a River Island, Next type of dresser, If I want something nice I head off to the outlet and grab something from one of the designer shops .
I’ve lost a lot of weight on skinny jabs and am a size 14 which I’m happy at . My shape is large bust 38f , and a bit up and down with no waist so I wouldn’t say my figure is great but loads tell me I look great now and def not to lose any more. Only colours that don’t suit me and I don’t like are Red and Yellow .
my Arms are very flabby from weight loss so looking for a long or 3/4 sleeve and I have a horrible scar on my knee so looking at midi or maxi dress .
pleats aren’t great on me, make me look huge.
If it was one of my other children I would be going down one of the traditional mother of the bride looks, Veni , Jon Charles etc as that is what I’d be comfortable in as I’m quite a glam mum but this is not going to be that type of wedding . Help please girlies! Want to spend around £200, could squeeze more if I need to .

@ForPinkCrab , I'm guessing you like pinks from the dresses you've been looking at? And you want something waisted?

I like the pink Rixo ruffled one - it looks as if it could suit what you like as well as the wedding vibe. Less keen on the other two - plus they're both 100% polyester, lined in 100% polyester, & very fitted - so might be a bit sweaty to wear on a warm autumn day by the sea ...

One thing though is that you said the bridesmaids will be in bright colours & sequins. Do you think you want to match that in terms of the brightness/glitteriness of your outfit (as some PPs have suggested you do)? Or wear something that's in a bright/strong pastel colour that you love, but not be quite as OTT? I'm thinking the latter from what you've been looking at yourself?

Another Rixo one I spotted that has a bohemian, relaxed air is this one. However, you probably want something more waisted/fitted - but I thought I'd post it anyway! https://www.libertylondon.com/uk/hayden-chiffon-dress-000868627.html Ignore the casual styling, add clashing/toning velvet platforms & clutch, & you're sorted!

I'd even suggest that, despite my strong dislike of fascinators, you could wear a feather headpiece or similar with this dress & rock it ... (I can't believe I've just posted an image of a fascinator 🙀!!!)

But it's about you not me, OP, & I think that it would work in this instance without looking naff as the dress isn't a traditional MOB one ...???

I am going to be that person and recommend that you get a bra fitting because if you wear a size 14 dress then you are not a 38” back. You may be astonished at the effect that a well-fitted bra has on your whole shape.

Came here to say this exactly. Get those boobs in a well fitting 34gg/h and it will slim you down hugely.

Wear what makes you comfortable.

Have you looked on Roman? (Pink & Turquoise dress)
Also possibly Etsy? They have this rather fabulous Blue glittery dress!

I really like this Stine Goya dress. And I know you said no red/yellow, but I think of it as pale pink & multicoloured (lots of shades to accessorise with - red lipstick, pale pink/leaf green/royal blue). These vintage Prada shoes are fab, & I'm sure you'd get brownie/cool points from your daughter & her friends for wearing something vintage!!

What is??!!!

@ForPinkCrab - this is bright, silk, & has a beautiful pattern. It's shown worn very casually with flat sandals, but could easily look really fab with clashing bright or maybe gold/metallic heels & bag.

Everybody will hate me but I think less is more and comfort are important. A good hairdresser too.

Ask your daughter and go on a shopping spree xx

Other NRBY silk ones that are bright & bold & beautiful. Bear in mind that they dress their clothes down very casually, rather than up, in these shots - but they'd all be great as MOB dresses.

This is more of a dark pinkish-red to me, OP, than a true red. Love the leopard print shoes with it.

That's a dressing gown surely?

Of course she can! She’s lost weight not bone mass! I’ve lost 3 stone by back size hasn’t changed but my cup size has!
