Beauty chat - freebies/gifts with purchase/offers THREAD FOURTEEN

Time for a new thread, our first in a MN Community Group. We've chatted and purchased beauty bargains so much we've become a literal tribe! 😂

In other news PLouise was out of the gate with ridiculous speed announcing the first advent calendar waitlist in April.

In celebration I thought I'd try out a poll. It runs for 7 days, there was only 6 options so comment in the thread for those that come under 'Other'.

As always, welcome back long standing beauty bargain hunters and hi to anyone new who would like to join. Usual caveats about the threads being bad for you wallet still apply, but enjoy anyway. 🤗

Just a note to check all the contents if you haven't already, my late purchased one had an item missing and a duplicate of something else. Lots of doors with multiple items too so not as easy to tell if something is missing 😊

I intend to, I haven’t had time yet. Were Cult Beauty helpful? Hope everyone is enjoying the bank holiday weekend.

The boots recycling scheme is super easy to use, if you're sorting through your stuff anyway you might as well upload them as you go (doesn't have to be in groups of 5 or anything, just scan the lot). I have a bag in my car boot with my accepted empties in so I can just grab 5 any time I'm going into boots without thinking 😊

That's a good idea. I'll keep a box in the car boot.

I’ve just seen they accept baby wipe packets. I will definitely be starting a boot box too. Just having a quick whip around I’ve already found five items to recycle.

Fillybuster · 03/05/2026 00:21

If anyone likes the Laura Mercier power primer essence, it’s down from £48 to £14.40 on JL website, although you do have to pay £4.50 delivery. Lots of big cuts on various foundations, including IT Cosmetics CC, but sadly none of the lighter tones which I use. Definitely worth checking out if you use the medium or darker shades.

Face the Future - for rewards, I’ve got enough for £5 voucher, but it keeps saying not valid when I try to apply it to my order. Can the rewards only be redeemed against certain things? (I was buying the mystery bundle)

Talisin · 03/05/2026 08:34

Slightly off topic but is anyone else having a mare with Quidco the last month or so? It doesn’t seem to be tracking anything since the beginning of April (not so coincidently when they updated their systems). I’ve just spent almost half an hour raising claims for Cult Beauty, Boots and Dominos and the amount of stuff they ask now is nuts. I think I’m going to have to start a spreadsheet for everything I buy that goes through Quidco just so I have all the info in one place.

And nappy packets. And toothbrush heads. Empty dental floss packets. Empty toothpaste tubes. I haven’t been able to do 8 drops a month yet though.

Hi @Thelifeofawife - you can't use your points on certain things, including edits and bundles unfortunately.

Thanks @keepincool

Judging by that list I should be asking what I can use it for! It’s a bit rubbish to limit so many things, you should be able to use the rewards on anything, it’s not a discount code.

I've got about £15 -20 built up and still haven't found something to use it on. I guess it needs to be something full price but outside of the edits and mystery deals full price is often higher than elsewhere or there's already say a 10% discount which negates using the points.

I've always found quidco to be very hit and miss, I very very rarely use it any more (actually I might withdraw my balance now I think about it). I find topcashback and more recently vouchercodes to be much better

I have so many nappy packets! Kicking myself I didn’t do it sooner. Going to Boots later and need to bulk buy some more baby wipes so I’ll make my first drop.

TragicMuse · 03/05/2026 12:16

I just don’t shop at Boots! My husband hasn’t been to Boots since 2019! I drop off my sharps boxes there but I very rarely buy anything. And I do wish recycling was easier everywhere.

Doglover73 · 03/05/2026 12:32

Has anybody ever had one of these?

Love the philosophy and ethics behind the company @Doglover73 . Watching with interest to see if anyone has tried them.

And the plastic packs contact lenses come in go in the blister pack recycling. You can add 5 for 100 points in addition to the 5 beauty 4 times a month. I got 618 points on a £12 spend yesterday.

TragicMuse · 03/05/2026 13:29

Has anyone used the Eliz Arden Prevage anti ageing cleanser? I’ve just opened one for my next cleanser but remembered I often haven’t quite got on with Arden. The capsules were very sticky and slimy on my face…

Any thoughts most welcome!

I thought 'ooh...' so went to investigate. The box is really reasonably priced but it wants to add £18 shipping. I'll give it a miss.

Beautyfox · 03/05/2026 13:46

@Doglover73 @Cyclingmummy1 it looks like it’s an American based company. Hence the high shipping. That’s a shame.

I think it’s 8 times a month? I’m going to try and reach 8, I think with all the baby stuff it’s possible 😅 I don’t buy baby’s nappies from there though so it’s the £10 spend I’m more worried about.

Each Reward can only be used once. A maximum of 8 rewards per account will be issued in any calendar month. All subsequent deposits will be accepted but not rewarded.

Only one Reward can be claimed per calendar day, regardless of how many items have been recycled over the 5 items threshold.

I’ve done one today so will try and gather some more things together for one later this week!

8 times a month for beauty recycling scheme

4 times a month for blister pack recycling (prescription, non prescription, contact lenses)

Not beauty but I am considering spanking Liberty BD points on some Adidas x Liberty trainers... Sambas4life!

BUT, I need to spend £70.20 to get the next £10 voucher and the Sambas are £70! Waaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Or the Liberty equivalent of the BoJ centella mask??
