Too early to buy a mother of the bride dress?

My daughter is getting married in June 2027. I know I have loads of time but when I was in town today and wandering through shops I was looking at the summer clothes and it occurred to me that it might be a good time to buy something.
the wedding is in a gorgeous old country house. Not very formal. No church. Hopefully wedding ceremony in the garden of the weather cooperates.

I was looking at these and thought they were pretty. What do you think?

Beautiful!
if you like the dress then you should buy it and not wait. As mother of the groom to 5 sons, I have always used Ann Balon, not let me down once. Hope the wedding goes well, you will look stunning x

@Twodogsonthecouch I've also ordered the Farm Rio one - 25% off today. My daughter gets married in six weeks and I'm getting desperate so I hope your thread may have sorted my outfit for me 🙏

@outofideas2 Oh that’s exciting 🤗. Hope the dress works out. I’d love to hear how you get on with it.
Have a lovely day 🥰

@NancyJoan Linen at a wedding is just a big fat no. It creases and goes out of shape very quickly. It’s casual and more suitable for going to the pub. There are absolutely loads of suitable dresses that will stay in good condition all day. A former boyfriend of mine got married and me and DH were invited to the wedding. His mum wore her old cardi. It’s just screaming “I cannot be bothered”. She simply was the one who made the least effort. I’d look for a crumple free fabric and a flattering style.

Um, okay. I think there is linen and linen. Cropped white linen trousers from H&M will look grim within half an hour, but a decent quality, tightly woven linen is beautiful. Crisp, cool to wear, chic.

Neither of these have even the fainted whiff of old cardigan about them, and would look stunning with tan leather sandals and a straw bag.

I prefer the green one. It makes me think of enchanted forests and nature so a country house setting seems apt.

I love that butter yellow one and otherwise I’d look at me and em.

When my daughter got married last summer I wore a linen dress from my favourite shop Cos with a silk cover up also from Cos and some fabulous sandals. It was a very relaxed wedding with the reception at a local restaurant. The temperature was about 30 degrees and I felt very grateful not to be wearing a polyester long sleeved outfit. Typical MOB is absolutely not my style and I would have felt very awkward. Wear what you love and what feels like you and I’m sure your daughter will be thrilled to see you so comfortable and enjoying the day.

My friend has a mob dress and accessories from a mob shop. About 1000 euros worth of definitely not capable of a rewear. I have 2 dresses i can't really wear again because they are too formal. I try for the sales!
Aunties at weddings are easier.

I saw the dress I ended up buying for MOG about a year and a half before-fell in love with it and knew I wanted it but it was a bright colour and I wanted to be sure it wouldn't clash with the bridal party.

It's fine if you don't feel you need to "match" the bridal party but at the same time you want to flow-for example if the bridesmaids and flowers are pastel and soft then I think wearing a bright red tone-for example-will look jarring and harsh in the pictures etc. and make you stand out-not in a good way.

It's certainly nice for it to look coordinated and complimentary if not exactly matching.
