How do full-time workers manage weekday-only hair appointments?

I work Mon-Fri, recently moved house and tried a local salon. Hairdresser was nice, but made a point that she only worked 1 Saturday a month if necessary for those that work. I thought a mobile hairdresser might be more flexible but she doesn't work any weekends but offers a slightly later midweek option- once a month. Her reasoning was also for people that work.

I did years of shift work and appreciate many people don't want to work weekends, but surely there are people getting their cut that work full time? I already colour it myself so its just the odd trim and bow dry I want. What do others do? Should I just keep trying local places?

When I worked full time I used to go on Thursday evenings. They often do late openings on that day.

Cheersmedears123 · 15/04/2026 21:06

I use a salon that has evening and weekend appointments. They get booked up quickly so I make sure I book well in advance.

aspirationalferret · 15/04/2026 21:07

Mine has weekday evenings. No weekends

mdinbc · 15/04/2026 21:08

I would book the last appointment of the day, and leave work a bit early. It's not happened for years though, since my current hairdresser works weekends and into the early evening.

SockQueen · 15/04/2026 21:09

I work FT hours in 4 days so have one weekday where I can normally do stuff like this (though annoyingly my preferred salon is closed on my usual off day!) Or I just go during AL.

awfulapril · 15/04/2026 21:11

We don't use hairdressers that don't do weekday only appointments

ConnieClue · 15/04/2026 21:11

I use annual leave. I can't do evenings/weekends due to no childcare though! Childcare only in my working hours, hence needing to use AL.

Lavender14 · 15/04/2026 21:12

I just use flexi time or annual leave. Or a late evening slot.

thereare4lights · 15/04/2026 21:12

My work is flexible so I start 30 mins early, finish 30 mins late and take a 2hr lunch break when either dog or I neex s hair cut.

Thickasabrick89 · 15/04/2026 21:14

I go on my lunch break...an extended lunch break depending on what they are doing.

purpledagger · 15/04/2026 21:14

i have a mobile hairdresser who does evening appointments. she also has another job, so isn’t normally available during office hours.

WonderingWanda · 15/04/2026 21:14

I have a mobile hairdresser who does evenings, she's fast as well. I hate going to actual salons.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 15/04/2026 21:14

All the majority salons do weekend appointments where we live. Are you too far from a city to travel?

PansyPolly · 15/04/2026 21:15

I go 9-11, check emails whilst the colour is developing and then work through lunch and a bit beyond the end of the day.

dandelion1995 · 15/04/2026 21:16

Mine’s open till 9 every weeknight and till 6ish Saturdays and Sundays. The larger chains like Headmasters etc have similar hours.

Smallorveryfaraway · 15/04/2026 21:16

I use annual leave and either make a lunchtime appointment or end of day, so I only have to take an hour.
Or I take a full day off and combine it with dentist, gp, shopping etc. and something nice. A rare full day to myself.

drspouse · 15/04/2026 21:17

When I used to work full time I would take work to the salon if it was highlights (just took a long lunch break on a WFH day if not). I felt bad but then spotted my boss in once doing the same.

Octavia64 · 15/04/2026 21:18

The big chains are usually opem Saturdays and shut Sunday and Monday, plus at least one evening open.

IDontHateRainbows · 15/04/2026 21:18

I wfh on Fridays and try to have an extended lunch hour so I would fit it in then if I had to, although I'd avoid a hairdresser who wasn't available on Saturdays

dollyblue01 · 15/04/2026 21:19

I use Al too as can’t get a weekend app
either , just half a day

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/04/2026 21:19

Flexi time or annual leave. Easy enough.

ForCosyLion · 15/04/2026 21:19

Sounds like she only wants weekday appts, so she's not the right hairdresser for you. Between retirees, SAHPs, shift workers, and kids' after-school appts, I imagine she has more than enough work for the weekdays, so I can understand her not wanting to do weekends. If you go to a salon, though, they are always open Sats. Busiest day! Or you could look for ones with a late night once a week, per another PP.

MrsApplepants · 15/04/2026 21:20

I simply don’t use a hairdresser that doesn’t offer Saturday appointments. I’m not using annual leave for hair appointments!

ThatWordDoesNotMeanWhatYouThinkItMeans · 15/04/2026 21:21

I just go to a hairdresser that works on Saturdays.
Are you particularly 'out of the way' that you don't live near somewhere that has salons open at the weekend?

Comefromaway · 15/04/2026 21:23

I used to go to a salon that did do weekend appointments. They closed down so now I go in the evening, after work.
