How do full-time workers manage weekday-only hair appointments?

I work Mon-Fri, recently moved house and tried a local salon. Hairdresser was nice, but made a point that she only worked 1 Saturday a month if necessary for those that work. I thought a mobile hairdresser might be more flexible but she doesn't work any weekends but offers a slightly later midweek option- once a month. Her reasoning was also for people that work.

I did years of shift work and appreciate many people don't want to work weekends, but surely there are people getting their cut that work full time? I already colour it myself so its just the odd trim and bow dry I want. What do others do? Should I just keep trying local places?

I go to a salon that is open at the weekend, of which there are many in my town. I still see the same hairdresser each time. I book the next appointment when I pay but that’s mostly so I don’t forget to book one.

MerryQuail · 15/04/2026 23:23

I take annual leave and book the earliest morning appointment. After paying, I book my next one 8 weeks in advance. My trim, cut and colour take about 2 to 2.5 hours. It’s inconvenient but it is my one beauty treat so I stick to it.

converseandjeans · 15/04/2026 23:25

My hairdressers close Sunday & Monday & are open on a Saturday.

EasterlyDirection · 15/04/2026 23:27

Flexi hours at work, but I only have a wet cut so in and out in about 45 mins. Always book my next appointment as I leave.

As for working FT - yes, probably most women do, but a significant number of those will work shifts, or weekends, or term time only, so weekday appointments are suitable for them. And there are a lot that work part time or are retired and are also fine with weekdays.

I've always worked where taking a half or single day off was possible.

HeddaGarbled · 15/04/2026 23:37

They go to proper salons.

Weregoingtothefuckingmoon · 15/04/2026 23:38

I go on weekends, I would travel further to find one that did. I only know one that doesn't open on Saturdays here. Most close Sundays and Mondays.

Pistachiocake · 15/04/2026 23:51

I always went on a Saturday, surprised you're having problems finding one? I stopped getting dye once pregnant, and it just seemed too much time and money going every couple of Sats, but it wasn't that long ago and there were lots of staff in the salon working.

ThunderCatsHooo · 16/04/2026 07:48

I do compressed hours so work ft but over 4 days, it used to be for childcare reasons, but now my children are at school I use the day for appointments etc, works great.

linelgreen · 16/04/2026 07:56

I just WFH every Friday that way I can get my hair done, be at home for the online shop delivery and any other appointments I need e.g dentist, nails can be fitted in as well.

nonsensicalmess · 16/04/2026 08:00

Evenings after work or sometimes I take a half day.

ZenNudist · 16/04/2026 08:00

I just get a weekend appointment. Never heard of a Weekday only hairdresser. If one of my staff was working from hairdresser I'd be very annoyed!

ThatAgileLimeCat · 16/04/2026 08:01

My hairdresser does one late evening a week so I book that well in advance. Sometimes I have to work late though so take laptop with me and hairdresser sets me up in a corner (her idea, not mine. But works well when I'm in a fix)

CarolinaLiar · 16/04/2026 08:02

We have an agile working policy where I work. So if you need to get your hair done or to take time out for anything at all, you just do it.

SpringSe · 16/04/2026 08:03

I use a hairdresser whose salon is in her garden. I take my laptop and work from there, my laptop connects to her wifi each time, I also book it in when the company has a no meeting protected time, I also get flexitime though so it all works out. When I worked for more rigid set ups I used a hairdresser who worked evenings.

susiedaisy1912 · 16/04/2026 08:03

I had to find someone who cut hair on an evening

ImFineItsAllFine · 16/04/2026 08:05

As far as I know all our local salons are open Saturdays, you just have to book well in advance so that's what I do. I wouldn't use a weekday only hairdresser.

Claudiasfringebenefits · 16/04/2026 08:06

I do full time hours but not Monday-Friday. When I did I booked Saturday or got hair cut on annual leave, a couple of times abroad (I don’t recommend lol).

SinicalMe · 16/04/2026 08:27

Toni & Guy are open late in the evenings and are open Saturday and Sunday.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 16/04/2026 09:06

Start work early on that day then book the last appointment?

Stnam · 16/04/2026 09:19

Every hairdresser that I have ever come across opens on Saturday. In London a lot are open on Sunday as well. Considering the amount they charge, you would have to work full time to afford them so they have to cater for full time workers.

Gettingbysomehow · 16/04/2026 09:20

My hairdresser does a late night Thursday so I have to have that appointment.

Tortephant · 16/04/2026 09:21

Go in the evening or weekend.

find another hairdresser

EveryDayisFriday · 16/04/2026 09:24

When I was FT in the office, I'd go for an evening or Sat appt, mine shuts on a Monday in lieu. Now I'm flexible from home I take an extended lunch hour starting work early.

Don’t lots of salons do one eve a week. Usually a Thursday. Find one of those and book in advance. Or book the last appointment of the day at one close to work
