Can anyone help me find a special dress for dd aged 5 to wear to a wedding

She is not going to be a bridesmaid/flower girl but it is her first wedding and she is really excited. She is going to be there for the whole thing

I would like to get her something really lovely, she would like sparkly I think. She looks great in pink, cornflower blue, yellow, in fact most colours (she has blonde corkscrew curls, huge blue eyes and pinky cheeks!)

Anyone seen anything around?

Having used this as an excuse to prowl around websites, it looks as if this summer most places are doing rather wishy-washy colours (viz. the Cyrillus dresses page eg) - and it sounds like your daughter would suit vibrant/jewel colours ...

Have you looked in Zara? I find they do nice bright colours, & always have a range of dresses.

stealthsquiggle · 19/06/2008 13:45

CD you do realise you have to tell us who's 'won' this game (if anyone) don't you?

I too would be wary of anything which looks too much like a bridesmaid's dress.

TillyScoutsmum · 19/06/2008 13:45

sweet

WelliesAndPyjamas · 19/06/2008 13:48

how old is DD, CD?

lilyloo · 19/06/2008 13:49

Maybe a couple of those are a bit too bridesmaidy
loads of choice on that site though !

meep · 19/06/2008 13:49

what about this?

WelliesAndPyjamas · 19/06/2008 13:50

stand down, just re-read thread title

newgirl · 19/06/2008 13:50

doh sorry - i thought you said she IS a bridesmaid - I need a coffee...

sorry - white/cream is for bridesmaids only!!! back to boden suggestions!

meep · 19/06/2008 13:53

this?

WelliesAndPyjamas · 19/06/2008 13:54

this would have been my top choice aged 5

and this one can only be worn to a party/wedding, surely

oh, and another cute one

stealthsquiggle · 19/06/2008 13:56

Wellies you are getting well into this - maybe I could afford to send DD parcel post - she gardens (see profile picture) as well as wearing cute dresses?

WelliesAndPyjamas · 19/06/2008 14:01

it's a deal (it was the gardening that did it for me!) - let's go halves on the postage although she will have to bring a bigger watering can, ok?

MrsBoo · 19/06/2008 14:03

This is a great thread, my DD is nearly 5 and going to a wedding at the end of August. Its by SIL's, so need something special.
Now I have loads of suggestions, courtesy of CD

stealthsquiggle · 19/06/2008 14:06

OK, but the wheelbarrows belong to DS and he would object if she took those as well (and she is very fond of her very own Daddy-bought-it-for-me pink watering can!)

bosslady · 19/06/2008 14:08

We got our dd matching dresses from bhs they were beautiful and only £30!!

Bink · 19/06/2008 14:22

There is a French company called La Fiancée du Mekong which makes gorgeous, original, lively things out of Vietnamese fabrics - example here - I have a dressing gown from there and love it.

It doesn't have an online site at the moment but here is where it has shops (all in France, but just in case you have a friend nearby or are visiting).

Ledodgy · 19/06/2008 14:26

my 5 year old wore this to a wedding last month It's lovely because there are layers underneath so the skirt flows out when they spin on the dancefloor like five year olds tend to do.

bratnav · 19/06/2008 14:28

My DD1 (6) was just bought this by my in-laws, and it is gorgeous, not sure if dressy enough for the wedding?

CountessDracula · 19/06/2008 14:37

Sorry I had to go out for lunch
wow
thanks for all your responses
I will trawl through them

CountessDracula · 19/06/2008 14:44

ok
Don't like satin, It reminds me of the vile princess dresses!

Not really keen on the voile netty look either

I love some of the cottony ones but I know she really wants sparkles! That first monsoon one that lazarou posted looks the best bet at the mo

Wedding is in the US in back end of beyond so I am guessing they won't have a monsoon

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 19/06/2008 14:44

Saw this in Monsoon the other day

It looks much nicer in RL. I really wanted it for dd but have no need of a £44 dress for her this year

It's about time we had a goddam wedding in this family ffs I want to buy expensive gorgeous stuff for my daughter ffs

CountessDracula · 19/06/2008 14:44

actually sparkly shoes is a v good idea
i will see if I can persuade her

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 19/06/2008 14:45

x posts

hmmm no satin

will ponder further

CountessDracula · 19/06/2008 14:45

that is sweet but the colour is bleagh

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 19/06/2008 14:48

rather like this but am unsure of the shape, my dd looks better in stuff with a bit of a waist
