Droopy mouth

OlDroopyMouth · 08/04/2026 10:45

Me - 60 - until recently was regularly told I looked younger but in last few months have had an ageing surge. It was brought home to me when I had a photo taken for a passport.

I am not vain, I am comfortable looking my age, but what I am not happy about is I am developing a weird droopy mouth that seems to have come out of nowhere. This is a photo of Judy Finnigan. She is 17 years older than me but illustrates what I mean, these lines in the red circle. Mine are nowhere near that advanced but that is the way they are headed. I look miserable and defeated when I am anything but.

So, what can be done. What are these lines called? Is it something only plastic surgery or tweakments can fix? Or face exercises? Serums? Hoist?

Help me I look sad.

Marionette lines
You can have filler but it needs to be done well to avoid looking heavy

CharlotteRumpling · 08/04/2026 10:58

I have a droopy mouth too. Living with it as I am not keen on filler or Botox or such. I have to grin like the Joker to persuade people I am not miserable.
Aging is tough.

OlDroopyMouth · 08/04/2026 11:01

The side effect is I am drooling more. You wouldn’t look at me and say, ew, drool, but I notice it when I go to bed after cleaning teeth.

@LegolasladyCan you point to a celeb who you think has had it done?

This kind of image can be found by googling . I would book a visit for a free consultation at a trusted aesthetics clinic for their opinion. They can give you a better idea if what's possible

Sunshineclouds11 · 08/04/2026 11:15

I agree with filler.
Do your research first though, don’t go for the cheapest.

OlDroopyMouth · 08/04/2026 11:17

To be honest I was hoping to hear that face exercises or a magic potion would do something. I try to grin inanely to off set it.

Just asking....have you had any teeth removed from that area of your mouth?

No, I have a full set of teeth.

How awful that you've posted a picture of someone else.

bunnyvsmonkey · 08/04/2026 12:05

It looks worse in a passport photo or in the mirror because you're not animated. In real life it just looks normal.

Agree with this. We are harsh on ourselves.

RainRainRain2025 · 08/04/2026 12:08

You can’t get filler as it just makes it heavier and droop more according to the aesthetics doctor I see

bunnyvsmonkey · 08/04/2026 12:08

Also Google image Judy Finnegan and that is a particularly cruel photo. There are loads of recent photos of her looking brilliant. She's 77! When I was younger all 70+ people looked like thora hird.

newmenewwhatever · 08/04/2026 12:19

Disgusting, that you have used a photo of someone else to pick out and circle flaws.
the woman is not even the same age as you!

YerMotherWasAHamster · 08/04/2026 12:31

I've got that, and droopy eyes that leak.
Joys of ageing!

OlDroopyMouth · 08/04/2026 12:39

I posted a photo of Judy F because it best illustrates what I mean. I have also seen photos of her smiling and she looks lovely, but in repose she looks like how I am starting to look.

I mentioned drool. For those foaming at the mouth because they love to take second hand offence on behalf of someone else, calm down. It was not an illustration of me pointing at her and saying how hideous she looks. She looks sad in repose, as do I. Please do not derail the thread with your made up chagrin.

If this is aimed at me, you mistake my post. I'm not saying you are wrong to post the photo, more that the photo isn't really how people around Judy will see her and that particular photo is just a shit photo and there are plenty of photos where she looks brilliant. Therefore the marionette lines are not the issue, it's the photo.

Also if you look "sad in repose" is that a problem? Who is it a problem for? You're 60, you don't need to be perky penny anymore. Enjoy!

MabelRoyds · 08/04/2026 12:59

Facial excercises on YT to address marionette lines and jowls.

OlDroopyMouth · 08/04/2026 13:00

No, it wasn’t aimed at you.

I never wanted you to be a perky penny at any age. I don’t want to look like a miserable person either. Midfle ground suits me.

Have you tried them yourself @MabelRoyds

I had a bit of filler in that area a couple of years ago and it worked brilliantly and it took quite a long time to wear off. I'm not keen to re have it done because it's just a financial commitment I don't want to make and all the other filler related to potential problems. I'm currently I'm currently trying face yoga and self facial massage .Both of these need commitment and to be done daily to work and to maintain which I am prepared to do. I follow a woman on Instagram called Nikki who does face yoga and a couple on Youtube. None of the ones I follow are are very young. I want to see similar age people. I've seen quite a few before and after videos which shows that it works but it is an ongoing commitment. I've also had a lot of dental treatment over the last five years and definitely feel that this has had an impact but the dentist denies that this is a contributing factor.

TheseWordsAreMine · 08/04/2026 13:33

I would not worry about it.

None of us really see each other anyway. Beauty is really within.

We did not make ourselves and should allow nature to take its course and accept it.

So many young girls these days will look awful in a few years because they tried to fake a look. Natural is always the best.

When you try to change your face, all you look like is a written off car that someone's patched up in a rush, late Sunday night before work on Monday. However, that filler is now internal and can do all manner of damage. That stuff does not just vanish, you have made it part of you forever and there is no turning back. It has a forever effect that you cannot undo.

Look at Katie Price.

Being yourself is so much better.

PawMaw · 08/04/2026 13:34

Do you have strong neck bands? These get tougher as we age and can pull down the lower face. If you aren't keen in botox in you face, have a look at platysmal band botox (Nefertiti Lift).
