Do you have an outfit (or two) you feel amazing in?

I’ve just taken delivery of yet another pair of ‘meh’ jeans (going back) and it’s got me thinking about outfits that feel amazing. The ones that really boost confidence, not necessarily for a special occasion, more for everyday. I’ve got some lovely clothes (I buy good quality, in just a few colours and keep for years) but just a few outfits that feel really spot on.

Mine are:

A pair of petrol blue wool and linen culottes from Poetry, with taupe suede boots and a cream silk shirt bought for a small fortune from the Kooples in Paris- I suspect it mostly works because the charming shop assistant flattered me to death into buying it.

A tan suede mini skirt with a cream cashmere short sleeve sweater and taupe ankle boots, with big hoop earrings. With an olive trench on top.

Wide leg jeans with a cream linen t-shirt and sneakers. Last year my daughter told me I looked like Velma from Scooby Doo so I like it even more now.

Khaki cotton lightweight shorts with a white cotton popover blouse and tan sandals.

A black faded linen dress with big gold hoops, tan sandals. I look terrible in stark black but black faded linen and a light tan feels sophisticated, even on me.

As you can probably tell, my wardrobe is where fashion goes to die. But I’m older now, and now what I like so, who cares?!

Please share your favourites outfits, if you like.

I’ve just had this delivered https://www.asos.com/topshop/topshop-denim-seam-detail-maxi-dress-in-indigo-rinse/prd/209266533?ctaRef=my+orders and I look like a sexy mermaid in it. It’s a bit long in the bodice (I’m 5’2”) but it fits like a glove widthways. I love it!

Could you please measure the length for me? I have several maxi denim skirts from Topshop on my wishlist but they don’t provide the length of any of their garments! I’m 5’3.

The model is five 5 ft 8 and you can see where it lands on her.

PersephonePomegranate · 03/04/2026 11:02

I have quite a few! I try not to keep anything that makes me feel meh and I don't buy or keep anything that makes me feel horrible.

That means kissing a lot of frogs - 90% of the time I buy in shops and try things on. We've all had the disappointment of how things look on a hanger or website vs how they look on you. The conversion rate of trying on to buying or keeping is on the low side 😂

If something is cut to fit my shape and exphasise my good points, I can feel really good in jeans and a top.

I love this thread, thanks @Agamede. Hope everyone is rocking their favourite outfits and confidence today!

Yes, and it’s of course very easy to extrapolate, all day long I keep looking at where things land on people of different heights to hone this skill to perfection (sarcasm off)

SoScarletItWas · 03/04/2026 11:26

Mine would include:

Black sleeveless midi dress with an asymmetric draped neck and swishy skirt (£14 from Peacocks of all places and it’s so PERFECT that I bought two).

Warehouse slightly cropped black wide leg jumpsuit with a wide belt. It’s slightly arty, slightly oriental, and completely amazing.

Marks wide (p)leather trousers worn with either a fine knit Uniqlo merino jumper or a slouchy off the shoulder jumper.

An ancient Pretty Dress Company square neck wiggle dress (navy with polka dots) which fits like it was made for me and is the perfect wedding guest/summer dinner out frock.

I also have a 100 Stars dress that I feel fabulous in but always chicken out of actually wearing. The draw-string waist is annoying but I think a wide obi tie belt might be the answer, so I am determined to make it out of the house in this year.

stayathomegardener · 03/04/2026 11:30

I recently paid a small fortune for this skirt in Panama.

So glad I did because it makes me feel fun and not 57.

I have several skater dresses from Disturbia that I love wearing. They are very short and t shirt style with an empire waist so skim over everything.
I either wear them with tights or leggings and big chunky boots. Then a belt if Im feeling skinny or as is if Im feeling porky!
Very easy to dress up or down and def a wardrobe staple for me.

RosesAndHellebores · 03/04/2026 15:00

I have a velvet, fitted, Caroline Charles evening coat. I wear it to posh do's/the opera, etc. It makes me feel like a million dollars. It must now be 15 years old and is wonderful. It was v v expensive but worth every penny.

From the top of the zip to the hem down the centre back seam is 131cm. It’s maxi length on me but not trailing on the ground.

I have this red wide leg silk jumpsuit from Me and Em and I love it! I just wish I had more occasions to wear it. It’s comfy and swishy and striking all at the same time. https://www.meandem.com/int/2-in-1-wide-leg-jumpsuit-silk-top-lipstick-red

That is gorgeous.

Thank you very much, that’s really helpful. Beautiful dress, it looks like the fabric is very good quality.

A few, yes. I love clothes, buy quality and keep things for ages. I love my Vivienne Westwood pirate boots, they always make me feel fierce and awesome. Just bought this dress - love it. I wear the khaki with a cropped, pink cardigan for work. Works with boots, heels, flats..

Crushed23 · 03/04/2026 16:16

My go-to is a mini skirt, tight-fitting wool or cashmere sweater, black tights, black chunky boots.

I love exercise and have a petite, very toned body and the above combination brings out my figure without showing flesh (which I rarely do because I’m ALWAYS cold).

The colours of your outfit combinations sound great - olive & petrol worn alongside your black/cream/tan/khaki neutrals would be really lovely!!!

Strong/rich/muted greens & blues worn together (whether that's grass green & sapphire blue, or khaki green & smokey blue, or olive green & teal blue) are my absolute favourite colour combination. Just no sickly pastels, so definitely not mint green & sky blue (the latter of which is everywhere right now 😶)!!!

That's lovely. Did you buy green or black? Don't think I could pull off such a polished minimal look though ...I'm a bit of a maximalist at heart ... Also too squidgy right now!!

Mydogisblackandwhite · 03/04/2026 16:39

Ive got a dress i bought from tk max years ago, its a going out dress. Dark blue with flowers on it, love wearing it with black tights and chunky boots. Always feel good in it

Bought the green. Black suits me less as I get older I think. If they did other colours I’d buy those too!

Yes, ditto re black. Still wear it though - but with stronger lipstick colours than my usual day-to-day ones. That helps, as does mixing in other colours, especially on top/near my face.

PartyAnimalQueen · 03/04/2026 17:13

I don’t have much that makes me feel amazing apart from my motorcycle gear, honestly feel like a fucking queen when I’m in it. I do wear a sexy top under my jacket that looks good, but even without the jacket open I feel amazing even though I look like a potato 🥔 😂 (safety first and all that 😂)

Floisme · 03/04/2026 17:16

Some wide leg, cotton twill trousers from Toast around 8 years ago. Side fastening, slight curve to the leg - not extreme but just enough to look interesting. Perfect fabric for the style as it's quite soft but heavy enough to hold the shape. I love them so much. Toast used to be terrific for this kind of thing. I've tried so many times to replace them, including a couple of duds from Vinted. Now I mostly stalk the Reworn site.

They look good with most things but my favourites are:
A 1960s Alexon jacket in Moygashel linen. Starting to show its age. Probably irreplaceable. Or:
A Margaret Howell navy blue jumper. Like a lot of her clothes, it doesn't look anything special on the hanger but, once you put it on, it's slightly cocoon shaped and looks really cool. Or:
An Oska linen shirt, wide, slightly cropped fit. Gorgeous fabric.

Shrinkhole · 03/04/2026 17:56

I have a wide leg navy blue jumpsuit with a cowl neck that I always feel amazing in. It sort of drapes and flows and can be dressed up with heels and gold jewellery and have a 70s kind of vibe or dresses down with trainers. It’s nearly the only outfit that I feel really good in these days.

Nenya · 03/04/2026 18:03

I have a sage green pleated midi skirt from Joseph with an asymmetric hem which feels otherworldly and timeless. Love it with a leather jacket, ribbed turtleneck and Doc Martens in winter, and with a cropped tee and flat sandals in summer. Only thing is it's a nuisance to clean and seems to attract dirt, but it's worth it!!

Is it this one? Your description intrigued me! It's lovely. Can't afford it though ... 😶
