A non-shiny SP50 for face please!

I’ve tried loads and they all look really shiny, despite proper application.

I’m all for a healthy ‘glow’ but today I look like I’ve wiped my face with margarine! I’ve tried a bit of powder to mattify it with no joy.

I’m just over 50, very fair skinned and use Tretinoin so an SPF50 is preferred, but SPF30 might be ok - what can you recommend please?

I have shiny skin too and what works for me is the Eucerin oil control dry touch SPF 50 or the Vichy dry touch SPF 50. The Vichy can leave a bit of a white cast if I use too much, but I never burn with it even if I'm out all day (very fair skin). With the Eucerin I can wear makeup over the top and sometimes even feel like it needs a bit of serum/ moisturiser underneath too.

A lot of Korean sun cream is good.
Last year I used House of Joseon. I didnt but but I couldn't use moisturiser with it.
I've used Biore watery essentials but that can smell quite alcohol-y.
I'm currently use Tocabo which is really nice but Ive yet to test it in proper sun.

Heliocare 360 is great, and not shiny and added bonus makes a brilliant base for makeup

FrenchieMam · 30/03/2026 17:49

L'oreal daily UV. Can get the glow or the niacinamide version.

Morepositivemum · 30/03/2026 17:50

I always recommend le roc posay because it goes well under primer but actually just realised lately it’s quite shiny looking going on 🙈

Squirrelsnut · 30/03/2026 17:51

Clinique Super City Block.
Anthelios in the little rectangular bottle.

Squirrelsnut · 30/03/2026 17:52

Oh, Anthelios is La Roche Posay! I find it silky but not shiny.

tinaabbot · 30/03/2026 17:55

I just bought the La Roche Posay one and used it today, didn’t find it shiny, actually thought it applied really nicely

Scully01 · 30/03/2026 17:59

Korean sunscreen is my go to for lightweight formulas, just started House of Hur's spf 50, feels very lightweight and quite matte.

Cosmication · 30/03/2026 18:00

I love la Roche posay anthelios.

The Beauty of Jonseon primer/SPF 50 is good. I use it daily and make up goes on nicely over if

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 30/03/2026 18:07

I apologise in advance to your budget - the best one I have found is Tatcha silk sunscreen SPF50. I treated myself in a moment of madness when it had 20% off and it’s ruined me forever for all other SPFs. It’s absolutely wonderful but I don’t think I can justify repurchasing when it runs out! I’ve ordered some Thank You Farmer k-beauty SPF to try today based on a recommendation on another thread and will report back.

PS some SPFs obviously make it much worse but I’m six months into using tret and I think it’s the root cause of the shine. I really notice it even when before I put my SPF on.

Overtheatlantic · 30/03/2026 18:08

I use Heliocare colour and really like it.

DancingPhantom · 30/03/2026 18:15

Biore Watery Essence is the one for me. Doesn't make me shiny and make up sits well on it. Comes in F30 and F50

I would also recommend this.

bishyrestingface · 30/03/2026 20:01

Surprised no one has mentioned Garnier SPF 50 Invisible Nude Serum. It's the best sunscreen you'll ever put on your face, feels lovely, protects you from burning (I tested it after having a skin peel), is completely non greasy and is great for the skin as it contains hyaluronic acid too. For around a tenner, don't think it gets better than that personally.

gianfrancogorgonzola · 30/03/2026 20:04

Mixsoon centella

RingoJuice · 30/03/2026 20:04

You’ll want a Korean sunscreen. Beauty of Joseon as mentioned upthread is very nice, very elegant formulation. I also like another Korean brand called ‘Thank You Farmer’ just goes on so light and smooth.

These days though I’m pulling double duty with Korean CC creams like Erboria, just magic tbh

Was I the recommender? 😁

I saw Thank You Farmer on here and bought it to try. It really works for my skin. It glows but not shiny/ melty. Hope it works for you too!

Mamabear487 · 30/03/2026 21:56

I swear by cerave spf 50 AM moisturiser. I also use the PM one and my skin is very oily
