A non-shiny SP50 for face please!

I’ve tried loads and they all look really shiny, despite proper application.

I’m all for a healthy ‘glow’ but today I look like I’ve wiped my face with margarine! I’ve tried a bit of powder to mattify it with no joy.

I’m just over 50, very fair skinned and use Tretinoin so an SPF50 is preferred, but SPF30 might be ok - what can you recommend please?

Eucerin Dry Touch! Also better for me than LRP as doesn’t make my eyes sting

heliocare pigment fluid - actually makes your skin look lovely!

LinedOverLatte · 30/03/2026 22:31

Wow - thank you all so much for the recommendations! I’m not overly worried about budget (I mean, I am really, but happy to spend ££) because I use a ridiculously expensive Obagi product all winter to get rid of freckles/dark spots only for them to come back if my SPF isn’t excellent. I’ve burnt with some SPF50s 😩

So - decision time! Thanks again everyone. Let’s hope we get some really sunny weather now!

edited for SPAG and to make sense!

I also recommend the La Roche Posay one

Rainraingoaway21 · 30/03/2026 22:51

@LinedOverLatte Please may I ask which Obagi product you use? I used the range years ago and would love to do it again but so expensive, however if there's one main product you recommend? Thanks

Dunnow1 · 30/03/2026 22:53

I would make sure you choose one that specifically states it has 4/5 star uva rating.

Discobooloo · 30/03/2026 22:57

Bondi sands

TheDogsMother · 30/03/2026 23:01

Another Heliocare vote.

Was I the recommender? 😁

I saw Thank You Farmer on here and bought it to try. It really works for my skin. It glows but not shiny/ melty. Hope it works for you too!

I have just checked and you weren't but I am glad to have the recommendation triangulated!

Nivea shine control factor 50

pompomtiddly · 31/03/2026 14:45

My daughter( oily skin) and I (combination) swear by Nivea shine control mattifying effect spf50. It is light, feels good jand is effective (I burn easily and this is fine for me) Can get from Amazon £9 a tube.

2Hot2Greedy · 31/03/2026 14:47

Nivea SPF50 primer. My skin has improved so much since I started using it and foundation works brilliantly with it - no pilling and lasts all day. And it's under a tenner.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 31/03/2026 14:49

Currently using Bondi Sands spf 50 and it’s non shiny.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 31/03/2026 16:25

Body shop spray.

jellybee · 31/03/2026 17:06

I’ve got the aveeno calm and restore spf50. It’s great - no stingy eyes. I actually like it even more than the RochePosay one and it is way cheaper too.

buttonsdude · 31/03/2026 17:56

Cerave AM facial moisturising lotion is SPF50 and not shiny. Also isn't heavy and doesn't clog pores

ZenNudist · 31/03/2026 17:58

Squirrelsnut · 30/03/2026 17:52

Oh, Anthelios is La Roche Posay! I find it silky but not shiny.

I agree. It's fine for me.

WildFlowerBees · 31/03/2026 18:05

Ultra Violette supreme screen is lovely, doesn’t make your face feel like an oil slick. Nice under makeup and lightweight.

Bondi sands

I wore the tinted but matte for oily skins, last year and got compluments regarding my "makeup"

Caravanholiday · 31/03/2026 20:51

I use the Eucerin Anti Pigment Factor 50 one. I hate shiny sunscreen and am too pale for the tinted ones, they always go orange on me !

aboveandover · 31/03/2026 21:22

La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid Tinted SPF50+ 50ml

Only bought this 2 days ago and it's not shiny at all. It's tinted.

PenCreed · 31/03/2026 21:50

Thank You Farmer brings me out in spots, which no other skincare product has ever done and which was a bit miserable as I'm in my 40s. I ended up with Shiseido sunscreen after walking into a department store on holiday and pleading for advice. It seems pretty good - I'm very fair skinned and need the factor 50!

muddlingthrou · 31/03/2026 21:55

Another vote for Eucerin from me
