Booked short break in Spain next week. Warm enough for dresses but want to take a jacket for evenings. Im 65 and have the usual blue denim one but get impression a bit dated. Any suggestions ? Would a cardigan be better?

I hate suedette - it looks & feels cheap.

Pale pink denim jackets I find twee.

White jeans are, IMO, an abomination (I haven't recovered from the Liz Hurley years - I thought they looked cheap then & still can't get past it!!).

Before I get dressed down for slating others' choices & not making any of my own - most jackets on the Massimo Dutti website! Too many ...

And a few in the M&S Autograph range too.

Mystery.

I put “Levi denim jacket” into my duck.go search engine. It returned one selling at Sports Direct for £30 and said it was reduced from £100. Sheep-like I bought one. They were only available in sizes 18 and 20, but that’s fine for me.

Edit: I’ve found it again now.

I think it is this one, but in a larger size. Link is to the ASOS website but I’ve also posted a photo, which should load shortly.

Those of you posting about your heritage Levi denim jackets - was it this style you meant?

I had the cream M&S crocheted jacket mentioned up thread until yesterday, when I sent it back. It’s lovely craft work but it didn’t fit me properly.

MarchWindsAnd · 31/03/2026 04:01

I think my Levi denim jacket is not this one, because it has a drop(ped) shoulder which I find makes me look wider than a set-in sleeve does.

When Marks are selling it for £115 rather than £45

Melarus · 31/03/2026 10:28

That's a great jacket, MarchWindsAnd. I don't think it will date - it's truly timeless.

These jackets just seem like options for tall women with modest bosoms. I’m short with an hourglass figure and I won’t be covering up with those kinds of silhouettes.

rookiemere · 31/03/2026 13:24

@Motnight honestly it’s gorgeous. I paid £45 for it in a boutique and it seemed a snip even at that price. I might consider getting the khaki one to add to my collection.

Well, it is pure wool, & it's also Jaeger not standard M&S.

So if it was my thing & I could afford it, I would pay that for something that's really good-quality if it went with lots of other things in my wardrobe.

Katykaty11 · 31/03/2026 14:14

Well I'm returning the m and s cream jacket! Looks too long and blousy when i tried it with dresses. I need a cropped one I think. I'll look in Hobbs again.

I think those silhouettes are everywhere right now (not just Massimo Dutti) as oversized/bomber/blouson etc are what's "in" right now. I'm not a slave to fashion but I think some of those are also quite classic shapes.

I think the current styling vogue on various websites of seeing it on models on a catwalk does make you think "It looks great on them but wouldn't on me" more than normal.

I am tall (though no longer small of bosom!), & some of those ones probably ARE better if you're taller/more rectangular in shape. But there are lots of neater cropped or belted jackets on their website too? And their leather/suede ones are really excellent (they're known for their leather goods).

Theatre Autograph denim one I posted is fitted, & there are still quite a lot of fitted jackets out there - they're not all baggy/blousons!

Can't say I like much on the Hobbs website. Very formal/cautious/conservative/work or wedding appropriate.

This is possibly the best of the bunch, but makes the 20-something model look closer to my age. And I'm 59 ... It is partly how it's styled though.

I have this (also comes in cream) - similar to a denim jacket, but the colour and buttons make it seem a bit different and slightly smarter.

Actually, that's fine when styled a bit more casually - which Hobbs isn't very good at!!

JellyComb · 31/03/2026 14:56

This kind of denim jacket is much for fashionable at the moment.

Which one? The Jaeger knitted one or the M&S crochet one? Or a different one that I've somehow missed in the thread?!!!

If you have a cream denim one, do you still want another cream one?

EleanorMc67 · 31/03/2026 15:06

Would much prefer that this had at least some natural fibres in it, but it's a good shape.

A bit heavier but April abroad may not mean warm & sunny! I like this shape a lot. Depends on what dress style you favour though.
