What do you think of these sandals?

I've been trawling shops both online and on the high street looking for some sandals that are 1) brown 2) closed-toe 3) not too chunky but with no thin straps that cut into your feet 4) not heeled but also not pancake-flat with no support 5) not liable to slip off when you're walking. I want them for going on a spring city break in the south of France so that I can do a fair bit of walking during the day but they would also be ok to wear with a dress for the evenings.

I eventually found these ones on Vinted and they seemed to tick all the boxes, but when I was looking at the pictures it wasn't at all obvious that they had the elastic strap across the top. Now that I've tried them on I'm not sure if they look OK or if the strap spoils it a bit. It's the colour and the fact it's elastic - if it had just been the same coloured leather as the shoes it would have been fine. What do people think? Keep looking?

I'm glad you found something you like @ArwenUndomniel.
But they look at leaat a size too big imo! They'd look far neater if they were the right size.

ArwenUndomniel · 29/03/2026 16:48

I'd already sized down from my usual and I think the next one would be too small. My feet seem to have shrunk somehow over the last year - unless vanity sizing has been applied to shoes as well?!

For anyone interested, I went into town today and had a look around various shops. I tried on the M&S fisherman's sandals just out of interest to see how they looked, and they were so instantly comfortable that I ended up getting them 🤦‍♀️. They're definitely not things of beauty but I'll be able to walk all day in them. I'll just have to try to style out the slight Eastern European lobster catcher vibe...

This is a joke isn’t it

i now realise the whole thread is just a joke. Thank goodness

Why on earth would you come onto a thread where someone has posted a picture of themselves wearing something they've just bought and make an unkind comment like that?

Good that you found something you like. They’re very sturdy looking.

It’s such a shame that people like this are now posting on the normally helpful and ‘safe’ style and beauty board.

They look great and you have lovely ankles (meant in a non-pervy way!). 😆

I often have oedema so they can look a bit puffy. The dandelion supplements must have kicked in this morning.

Oh whats this? I have lymphodema (Is that you say it/spell it?), is that the same thing, what are the supplements, Im fed up of my fatty ankles, cankles.

Was also going to suggest the Siebel Rosalie, but if for some reason they don't suit, I came across Rieker's Maria, which is somewhat similar, although not available in straight brown (cream and beige or olive and brown are the closest options).

I thought the original shoes were the worst pair in the world. You’ve added some stiff competition there with those.

Honestly hilarious that you mocked the OP's sandals then recommended these. Please don't ever recommend anything ever again.

It's not the same thing, I don't think. Or at least lymphoedema is caused by damage to the lymphatic system and you'd need to address the underlying issue to improve the symptoms. You'd definitely want to speak to your GP about it - herbal supplements wouldn't be any use to you.

Gol grief those are hideous even if you’re 105

Do you get a kick from pissing on other people's chips? Do you realise that age brings with it foot problems which often need a little more suppprt than high fashion affords?

Yes I think thats what I have. He has prescribed stockings so thats what I wear to 'treat' it. He said thats the treatment.

SisterMaryLuke · 30/03/2026 13:19

Those sandals look much nicer and you have a lovely turned ankle - I wish mine were as fat as yours!!

I saw the following on Charles Clinkard site (sorry don't seem to be able to do links):

Ravel Kelk
Ravel Galston
Ravel Etter

Don't know if they are your cup of tea, but maybe worth a look.

But rhe op has not requested this, and looking at the markies ones, she doesn’t need it.

some of the foot wear suggestions are really dated and aimed at a much older demographic. It’s the same on many of these threads, why would anyone recommend what they need and not something to fit the ops brief.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/03/2026 13:36

I look at peoples shoes before I look at their faces. I love shoes.

Me too.

Hope you manage to find something nice op. Have a lovely holiday.

TheChosenTwo · 30/03/2026 13:48

Those keen ones, very fashionable??
where? Who with?
they’re the kind of things I see people in cagoules and walking poles and rucksacks of sandwiches in Tupperware and a thermos flask wearing while carrying out a countryside stroll I manage perfectly well in trainers.
Basially my nana when she was still sprightly in her 80’s.
I’ve never seen anyone else wear that kind of thing ever anywhere. They’re actually foul.

Op I’m glad you’ve seen sense and ditched the originals although seeing the rest of the links posted I’m not sure they were the worst things on this thread now!
