I could do with a couple of dresses in this style! Has anyone seen any, please? (I’m UK based.) TIA.

I didn’t come on to the thread to criticise the dress. I was just miffed that I didn’t remember it, as I do try at least to keep up with trends and have no memory of it!

Then I opened the link to the dress…and it was hard not to say something Grin. That must have been the peak of hideous, shapeless, ‘made in a sweatshop and soon to appear on Shein’ midi dress fever.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/03/2026 10:04

I wouldn’t wear it or that style of dress now (and took it to the charity shop some years ago) but I have fond memories of that summer, pre Covid, the buffet dress era. The dress and the sense of “community” it created - online at least - felt really fun.

Read the article "We are in very dark times at the moment,” says Melody. “We have a prime minister we didn’t vote for, the prospect of a no-deal Brexit in October, Trump in America. There’s a lot of awful stuff in the world at the moment and not a lot of joy" little did we know in 7 years we would be looking back at 2019 as the good old days!

In answer to op, I bought a similar one but with short sleeves and pink from asos a few months ago. They had quite a few different colours. I dont think even back then anyone was under the impression it was high fashion, were they? The main draw was it was "easy" something you could slip on and feel comfortable in without worrying about looking as though you'd tried too hard/not tried at all.

justasking111 · 25/03/2026 13:08

It was great in a heatwave when wafting around you. Comfort beating high fashion.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ☺️

I agree that it looked awful

I dont remember it in 2019, and to be honest will probably forget it by tomorrow.

Its shapeless and kind of boring - what is so wonderful about it? Its the same as hundreds of dresses before and after?

deeahgwitch · 25/03/2026 13:31

I missed out on it and was a bit disappointed tbh Blush

I have an eBay copy of it and I still wear it to work as a primary teacher. It really brings me back to that summer with the good weather and aperol spritzes everywhere 😂 I used to love the Instagram that "spotted" The Dress around.

Same, I was surprised disappointed I wasn't spotted in it as I pretty much lived in mine. I had 2 of the white and one of the black version.

OrangeStrip · 25/03/2026 15:09

Absolutely everyone who wore this dress looked like Wee Willie Winkie in it.

I didn’t.

CanaryLibra · 25/03/2026 15:16

God I loved this dress at the time and wore it loads.

Mine’s still hanging in my wardrobe, this thread made me think I might stick it on Vinted but just had a look and you can get one for £5, not worth selling.

RedApplePie · 25/03/2026 15:18

2019 was a last very happy summer for me before life went tits up for all sorts of reasons. The dress always reminds me of that and makes me smile every time I see it. I loved wearing it. I have loads of photos of me with it on, and in nearly every one of them I’m laughing. I’m sure I still have it, maybe it deserves a second go round.

Thank you. Can you post something you like so I can critique it, please?

Don't be childish. She's entitled to her opinion and to express it as we're here fro a discussion.

Gagamama2 · 25/03/2026 17:52

This in the polka dot is absolutely gorgeous, shame it’s completely out of stock. Funnily enough it looks a bit rubbish in all the other solid fabrics

chipsticksmammy · 25/03/2026 18:48

The viral hit from Zara seems to be a checked short bomber with a hood.
I keep spotting it on every influencer!

chipsticksmammy · 25/03/2026 18:48

I had a pink and black animal print version from Warehouse and wore it to death.

Because you saw everyone who wore it 🙄.

Florrieboo · 25/03/2026 19:09

I still have it and wore it out to dinner recently, I got so many compliments on it. It has lasted so well.

Dartania · 25/03/2026 20:09

That dress was awful back in the day, but at least many of us were wearing shapeless prairie dresses at the time. Now, it would just look unbelievably dated.

What’s a non-dates shape that people are wearing now? I need summer dresses and have no clue, I thought the billowing prairie type thing was still in tbh

baderror404 · 25/03/2026 21:35

Wasn't there one that was a lovely sky blue colour which had a collar? /shirt dress style.. It was like a dalmation spot / polka dot

CinnamonJellyBeans · 25/03/2026 22:07

Drab dress

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 26/03/2026 07:14

I remember at the time someone asking on here why it was so popular and even though I never had the dress I answered them.
At the time most women’s dresses were short, see through, covered in butterflies and bows, low cut, and sleeveless.
Then along came this very wearable dress which covered all bases. That was my answer as to why it was probably so popular.
The style has persisted as women were sick of having to tolerate impractical clothing.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 26/03/2026 07:19

I got married in 2019. I still have a spotted cotton top I bought for my honeymoon. I wore it with denim shorts and looking at the photos of me in it makes me smile.
It was a lovely hot summer. I went to Paris that year and it was roasting.

1035tg · 26/03/2026 10:34

I still have this dress and every time I wore it, I received compliments. To the point where, every summer since, I think I wish Zara had another viral on-trend dress! The key flattering aspects were: simple 3/4 sleeves (no puff or bulkiness or other bs); shoulders cut on the shoulder (no dropped shoulder or that awful raglan thing h&m do, that makes everyone look frumpy), yes it was tiered but the first tier was cut on the waist

DeftGoldHedgehog · 26/03/2026 12:07

I had a similar one from TU a few years ago.

There is an L in the Zara one in eBay.

I used to have this Zara dress as well, gave it to charity as I lost weight and it was too big, but it looks really nice on.
