Uniqlo culottes, what shoes to wear?

I have bought these, bear in mind I’m short so they are ankle skimming length on me. What to wear if I want something a bit smarter than trainers?

Ballet flats or loafers? Tbh I would just stick to trainers

AdeptWriter · 16/03/2026 17:57

I agree with PP, loafers all the way!

Floisme · 16/03/2026 18:16

Ooh I nearly bought those! They'd be ankle skimming on me too. What are they like?

I don't wear trainers but I'd go for Solovair lace ups (similar to Dr Martens) or loafers or, in summer Birkenstocks or plimsols. (Don't ask why I like plimsols but not trainers - it would derail the thread!!)

JulietteHasAGun · 16/03/2026 18:16

I was thinking possibly loafers, I only have black ones so think I need to look for some dark brown ones. Thanks. Or maybe get some smart brown trainers.

@Floisme i do love them. Felt very swishy at work today. They seem very good quality and comfy too.

I do have some brown Birkenstock leather clogs, closed toe but open heel…..they’ll be nice when it warms up a bit more. I was looking at the DM website earlier and didn’t see anything. Will check solovair out.

Thanks for the quick reply op. I'm still very tempted. The main thing putting me off is that they don't seem to have belt loops although I guess that doesn't matter so much with an elasticated waist. They do look good, enjoy them!

Hmmm, I don’t think the waist is elastic. There are nylon ones which I think may have an elastic waist. I looked at those but really didn’t like the thin, almost shiny material. Much preferred the softer, thicker cotton ones, think they hang nicer. They seemed much better quality.

I must have made a mistake then, it was definitely the cotton ones I was looking at. I'm even more tempted now.....Thank you and I hope you find the right shoes.

Catcatcatcatcat · 16/03/2026 18:43

Oh yes Birkenstock clogs would be great with these.

I have these (cotton ones) and it’s not a proper elasticated waist but the waist do have a bit of stretch. These are the most comfortable trousers I own, I’m getting them in all colours!

ExOptimist · 16/03/2026 18:47

I have several pairs of culottes and wear with mid calf flat boots or block heel ankle boots.

Dingdongavon · 16/03/2026 20:09

I want some too! What is the sizing like?

JulietteHasAGun · 16/03/2026 20:31

Love these, perfect. Thank you.

Long boots

Focusispower · 16/03/2026 21:13

I’d definitely opt for loafers at work and trainers for a more casual look. I bought their striped tapered linen trousers at the weekend and they are a lovely cut and fit. A recently opened Uniqlo in my area is costing me a lot of money!

Magpie50 · 17/03/2026 01:32

I googled this the other day coz I bought a lovely pair of indigo denim culottes.
All the trendy young things were either wearing long heeled boots or ballet flats.
(I'm not fashionable though so will stick to chunky boots or converse!).

Isometimeswonder · 17/03/2026 08:25

Chunky sole sandals.

Nitgel · 17/03/2026 08:29

I struggle with culotte footwear. In summer sandals are good with swish light culouttes and boots in winter but spring is hard to style. I find trainers look weird with them.

FishPie2 · 17/03/2026 08:32

Wish they would open a branch near me, 2 hours away is my nearest. Love their £24.99 dresses and can't wait to wear them.

Singleorigincoffee · 17/03/2026 10:39

Ooh I would stick with trainers but like naice ones. The MADES by new balance always a good shout. They look unassuming in the rack but once on, you got that athleisure look

XiCi · 17/03/2026 10:42

How tall are you? Im only 5ft 5 so would need something chunky to balance the bagginess out. So loafers, flatform sandals, platform converse. If cooler weather then black boots like my platform DMs or longer boots with a heel. I think ballet flats would look out of proportion as theyre so wide.
