Uniqlo culottes, what shoes to wear?

I have bought these, bear in mind I’m short so they are ankle skimming length on me. What to wear if I want something a bit smarter than trainers?

Ooh I nearly bought those! They'd be ankle skimming on me too. What are they like?

I don't wear trainers but I'd go for Solovair lace ups (similar to Dr Martens) or loafers or, in summer Birkenstocks or plimsols. (Don't ask why I like plimsols but not trainers - it would derail the thread!!)

I like derailments - they're the most interesting bits! Go on then ...

How tall are you? Im only 5ft 5 so would need something chunky to balance the bagginess out. So loafers, flatform sandals, platform converse. If cooler weather then black boots like my platform DMs or longer boots with a heel. I think ballet flats would look out of proportion as theyre so wide.

Edited

Shorter than you so I agree something a bit clompy is needed.

Just popped on to say glad I’ve seen these as they wouldn’t suit me at all.

Oh ok if you insist Grin I've probably piqued your interest for no good reason but basically I once started a bit of a kerrfuffle on here when I said I didn't like or own any trainers. It was admittedly a trainers' fan thread so arguably a touch provocative of me. Anyway I've tried (most of the time) to be a bit more diplomatic since then.

As to why .... I honestly don't know, I just don't like how they look. And yet I like plimsols despite their being bad for your feet, although I only wear them in summer so it's just for a few weeks every year. I normally prefer chunkier footwear so there's no logic or sense to it at all.

I also disliked and never wore heels when they were fashionable. It's a lonely life.Sad

Foofedifiknow · 17/03/2026 22:15

I have these and can’t wear them yet as struggling with footwear choice too.
they’re a bit heavy for summer so
hopefully an Arizona or Boston
clog in spring will do

Willowskyblue · 17/03/2026 22:31

I’ve got these and love them. Cant wait to wear them. I saw some leopard Mary Jane’s today and I think they’ll look good. Think they were fit flop.

Thechateau · 18/03/2026 17:01

Mine have just arrived. They are absolutely gorgeous. I'll wear them with trainers and then with birkenstocks

MarxistMags · 18/03/2026 20:21

Boat shoes . Canvas shoes. Hotter had some lovely canvas printed "gym shoes"

Why are you glad you saw them if they don't suit you Grin

Back to the OP - I think slimline trainers would be great. Adidas Japans as a PP said, or Puma Speedcats, or maybe Onitsuka Tigers.

JMSA · 19/03/2026 04:59

Birkenstock Boston clogs, for sure.

Cnidarian · 19/03/2026 07:31

Oh I have these! Not worn yet as still too cold here but I'm planning to wear my Adidas Liberty Sambas or brown ballet flats....Arizona's when it's warmer

JulietteHasAGun · 19/03/2026 07:50

Will defintely wear them with Arizonas when warmer. I do have some Birki clogs as well so that's a good idea. Am wearing them with Asics Cumulus today. Off to investigate Puma Speedcats.

They might look good with fisherman sandals

Because I had no idea what they looked like and thought they looked like the culottes of my childhood!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/03/2026 18:05

Relooked at these, actually quite nice and they do a shorter version. I’m sure the ones I saw before had a balloon shape.

mixandmatch · 19/03/2026 18:15

Ooh I have short legs and these look great. Advice on sizing please - are they a tight fit or a loose fit? I am a 10 in some trousers and 12 in others.

I think you’d be a medium? They don’t come in numbered sizes.
