Wedding is in June. Want something not overtly wedding-y so I can wear it for lots of other occasions too. Thinking cream or brown sandals with it.

Yes, seen a lot of people in similar at weddings recently, i really like it :)

TheGoddessAthena · 13/03/2026 15:35

Just looked again and out of stock in everything but a 6 and an 8. I am a 14. Wedding not until June so will keep checking.

Looks great for a wedding

That's frustrating! It's lovely.

Also love the Kew collection pattern which is available in a 14. You could try and see if you like the style?

TheFarriersDaughter · 13/03/2026 16:43

The photos look nice. But (based partly on a friend’s recent experience of Next, and partly on common sense) I suspect that at £36 it will not look as good in the flesh. The fabric will probably be dull and thin, the finishing appalling, and the proportions bewildering.

If you can look for something similar but of better quality, you’d be well advised to do so.

AsparagusSeason · 13/03/2026 16:44

It’s fine. I don’t like the spots, but it’s fine for a wedding.

Mulledjuice · 13/03/2026 16:48

Perfect style. There will be other brown dresses with cream spots (or vice versa) if you fancy looking elsewhere for similar.

Defo wear a slip underneath if it's unlined (which i would suspect at that price).

TheChosenTwo · 13/03/2026 17:23

I think this one is a vast improvement on the other one, I too have seen a few spotty dresses similar to this at the last couple of weddings I’ve been to.

MiddleAgedDread · 13/03/2026 18:52

I think the style is fine, I just wonder if the brown is a bit dull and not very summer wedding. There was a recent thread where the OP posted a very similar style dress in a nice shade of green, might be worth looking where it was from, I’m afraid I can’t remember. Next have loads of options that aren’t brown and you could wear again.

somanychristmaslights · 13/03/2026 19:48

Personally don’t like the brown. But the other patterns are nice. Perfect style for a wedding

Malinia · 13/03/2026 19:50

It's fine for a wedding and it's on trend. I wouldn't wear it but it's not offensive.

Isometimeswonder · 13/03/2026 22:38

It's nice. Would look good with gold accessories, including sandals

moose62 · 13/03/2026 22:41

This is very similar but more expensive...

Hobbs one is much better. I’d also consider navy spots. Accessorise with cream. Always looks smart.

I prefer the OP's choice.

OhDear111 · 14/03/2026 05:55

@PhaedraWas It’s sold out in her size. Most people think it’s a faulty cheap fabric, the Hobbs one is almost certainly better quality.

TheFarriersDaughter · 14/03/2026 06:02

But I doubt you’ve recently come into contact with a £36 Next dress, @PhaedraWas? I haven’t myself, but spent a morning in FaceTime contact with someone forced into a shopping centre through last minute need. Not one of the Next dresses we’d checked out online (which had looked wearable) passed muster in the flesh.

I agree the design of the OP’s suggestion is much more … everything. The Hobbs frock is typically timid and unexciting, but it does look more substantial.

Savonne · 14/03/2026 06:28

The length of the Hobbs one is wrong

mcmuffin22 · 14/03/2026 07:21

I like your choice OP. Contrary to some opinions, I think it's sensible to not spend loads on a dress that you won't get much use out of as long as the fabric is passable.

WonderingWhatWillHappen · 14/03/2026 07:25

I prefer the shape and length of the Next one. The Hobbs one looks like workwear to me.

I've never had any issue with the quality of Next at all.

RaraRachael · 14/03/2026 07:30

@TheGoddessAthena I was looking at the same Next dress for an upcoming wedding. I dislike brown but would love it in navy.
It's a lovely style and a great price- probably why it's sold out!

If it's the brown spot you like there are some options. If it's the shape I like some of the other colourways in that same dress, particularly the green with the large leaf print.

OhDear111 · 14/03/2026 08:11

The Hobbs dress is not the wrong length? What should it be then? 10 ins above the knee? It’s clearly a tea dress. That is a standard length for that type of dress. A smart dress for a summer wedding is just fine and it’s easy to accessorize. Guests really don’t have to wear flamboyant “look at me” styles. It’s better to be chic and feel comfortable.

Agree about next quality. I bought a summer dress last year for £32 and after one wash it looks like a limp, faded saggy thing.

doodleygirl · 14/03/2026 09:29

Hobbs dress is 100% polyester, they must think we are fools
