Vest tops, a challenge

Why is this so hard?! I don’t want thin straps, below my bum, clingy Lycra, swing style, flouncy bits, see through or that you can’t get a bra under
what I want is the one I had from long tall sally years ago but I’ve bought them all from eBay and now no more Sad

what I do want is a long length (I’m 5ft 10), v neck, draped vest for with shorts/skirt/jeans and comes in a size 18 as I have huge boobs

attached a photo of my fave, it’s fitted but not Matalan long type clingy

tried and rejected this as it’s too short and too swingy

OP, you are asking for the impossible here. It's best to come to terms with it earlier rather than later, or you will spend the rest of your life screaming muttering obscenities in the general direction of faceless M and S buyers/designers.

I should know. I'm a middle aged woman with multiple pregnancies under my belt. Noone wants to see my midriff when my arms stay from 90 degrees.

I got a good one from M&S last year. It was thick strapped, about hip length with a scoop neckline and ribbed. It was about £6 and I wore it loads. I also like the Next ones. They're called thick strap vest I think but the M&S one is better I'm hoping they do more colours this year

I don’t think I’ve tried that one, I rejected another next one so I’ll add that to basket!

I think this is it. I got the red last year, I think I'll get the blue and striped one this year

I bought some from M&S a couple of weeks ago but sent them back as they gaped under the arms.

Nodwyddaedafedd · 11/03/2026 19:20

I buy maternity ones when I can find them as the ruching is marvellous and makes sure they don’t ride up!

dammit88 · 11/03/2026 19:59

If you have one of the ones you love you could get some made I reckon quite cheaply if you take to a dressmaker with some fabric?

HollywentLightly · 11/03/2026 20:01

I got the built in bra ones in m& s. They are in the underwear department rather than with the t-shirts. The built in gives me monoboob so I wear a bra underneath, but very comfortable.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 11/03/2026 20:12

I was round all the shops looking for decent vest tops and found M&S to be the only place that had anything decent.

Try shapermint. They tend to have regular offers on. They do a variety of styles. They offer control but are very comfortable. You need to step into them and pull up as oppose to putting on over your head. They are 👌

Way too clingy unfortunately. I want sort of draped, loose, rather than the longer length tight ones (I have some Matalan ones I use as layers but they’re too clingy for my stomach)

I’m 6ft and managed to get a couple of longline thick strapped vests from George and Next. LTS are too expensive and don’t tend to wash well these days!
