Welcome to style mavens old and new to continue our chats.
Hopefully more bling if there's another banquet on the horizon?

IMHO the British RF are not stunners and yes @Maireas a tiara/crown always helps!😆
I think Anne, Andrew (🤢), Margaret and William were good looking in their youth, but the family's genes have definitely improved from partners marrying in. I think Kate is stunning and whilst not a fan of Meghan (personality-wise), she is beautiful too.
When you look at Fred and Mary, I see a very well matched (in looks) couple, both extremely attractive.
But everyone has different views and that's what makes life interesting!

Maireas · 15/03/2026 11:10

The eye of the beholder! I met someone who worked with Princess Anne and said she was very attractive with beautiful skin and bright eyes. QEII and Margaret were very pretty young women, I agree.

That gorgeous 1950's fashion helped too. Oh wow, I love the small waist full skirt dresses, lots of tulle - so pretty. And they weren't afraid to wear jewels! 💖

eggandonion · 15/03/2026 11:28

Princess Margaret was a nightmare as a person...but was absolutely of her time in looks! And she did have some hard knocks with the death of her father and in relationships.
The Denmarks are in Australia?

Yes, very true. I think styling definitely helps.

The previous Mary photos were her smart outfit at sunset. At sunrise they walked around Uluru in walking gear. Fred looks like your average dad.

in Canberra Mary went uber fussy in a flounced outfit and a fascinator. It looks more Ascot or even mature bride and jars a bit with the red and white trouser suit of the lady she is being hosted by. Still no one can say she didn’t make an effort.

I like her state dinner outfit. It’s an old outfit she has reworked a couple of times. I like the color and the gold detailing. In her hair she is wearing what I think has previously been used as a brooch.

Yes, I don't like the fussy outfit with the fascinator. The green evening dress is lovely.

Those khaki shorts are a bit "Queen Mary, I presume?"

RomainingCalm · 15/03/2026 12:31

I’m not keen on the fussiness of Mary’s dress. Take off a few ruffles and lose the fascinator and I think it would be ok - the print is pretty.

A couple more photos from last week that I don’t think have been posted.

Charlene in a beautiful Oscar de la Renta dress at a charity dinner.

And Harriet Sperling and Autum Philips both at Ascot in a similar check. Harriet rarely puts a foot wrong fashion-wise imo and looks very smart. I’ve always liked Autumn’s style choices but not sure this is the best colour/outfit for her.

Yes definitely a game of two halves for Mary. The state dinner outfit is a winner, giving slight sari vibes and a really gorgeous colour. The white dress on the other hand makes her look like a cake covered in royal icing and flowers

I think marrying stunning women has improved the genes of many a royal family. There's a royal history thread on Instagram mostly about the gems worn by various royalty. Lordy they ranged from plain to downright unattractive.

Maireas · 15/03/2026 14:57

I love Charlene's dress, so elegant.
Harriet Sperling is normally very stylish, but I think this outfit is a bit of a miss. The proportions look a bit wrong.

Charlene is really playing a blinder in terms of style. love that dress.

I love Mary's hiking outfit (she has great legs) and love the hair piece and earrings especially from her evening outfit.

Yes, Kate is wearing a green coat. I like it, it's a lovely shade and fit. I also like her updo which looks good with the hat.

It’s okay. I always think she wears her coats very long.

Maireas · 17/03/2026 14:44

I like the proportions, although not the stiletto heels. Quite a contrast with the 2012 image!

Happy Green Coat Day everyone! ☘

CreepyCoupe · 17/03/2026 15:36

I’m pretty tall and thin, but I can only imagine how lumpen I’d look in a big coat belted at the waist. Kate manages it perfectly. She looks very smart.

OP posts:
CreepyCoupe · 17/03/2026 16:15

They’re all pretty awful, really. But I definitely prefer the longer coats.

Maireas · 17/03/2026 16:35

I like 20023, 2025 and this year's. The most elegant and nicer shades of green. It's a formal occasion, so I'm not sure how it could be mixed up.

OP posts:
ExcellentDaydream · 17/03/2026 16:52

She must have been boiling in that lot, I'm not far away and it has been a pretty warm day. I have sometimes wondered if the royals ever make last minute outfit changes due to the weather. It's not as if she could just open the coat up for a bit of a breather without spoiling it all.

Maireas · 17/03/2026 16:54

I suspect not, for a military parade @ExcellentDaydream . They probably just have to go with the choice!

OP posts:
WarrenTofficier · 17/03/2026 17:12

I'm sure she could have ditched the gloves and scarf if she thought she'd be hot. She doesn't wear gloves every year.

I think for outside events there must be some degree of 'little hat if it's windy, big hat if its calm' 'coat A if its 5 degrees coat B if its 20 degrees' 'dress under the coat if its warm and dry, trousers if its cold and wet' flexibility in the planing that can then be tweaked once they know the likely forecast.
