Is this dress ok for a March Christening and May wedding

Just that really, do you think this dress is ok for a Christening in a few weeks and a wedding at the end of May?
I'm not quite 3 months post partum yet so like that it's a bit flowy and got some extra material around the stomach area.
Opinions please 😊

Very pretty

whattodoforthebest2 · 23/02/2026 14:19

Yes, lovely dress - good choice.

Morepositivemum · 23/02/2026 14:19

I think it might be too dressy for a christening personally but it is gorgeous and lovely for a wedding

You might be right, I'm wracking my brain trying to remember what I wore to the last christening I went to but can't for the life of me remember!

Gorgeous!

Ruthietuthie · 23/02/2026 14:31

I don't think it is too dressy for a christening at all. Yes, some people might not make an effort to dress up (and that would be fine, providing what they were wearing wasn't scruffy or tremendously casual) but this dress is squarely within the realm of acceptable.
Too dressy would be a floor-length ball gown or an evening style cocktail party. This dress has "spring christening" or "spring wedding" written all over it.
Don't add a hat or a fascinator (yuck) and you will be perfect for the christening.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 23/02/2026 14:32

Pretty and nice colour. Would you wear a jacket or cardigan with it?

SurpriseSparDay · 23/02/2026 14:36

It’s not inappropriate in any way - just so saccharine and old fashioned. Would you really not prefer something that looks a bit more 21st century?

I would also be concerned at the relative cheapness, given all the embellishment. You’d struggle to get a wearable dress from Zara for that price - so I wouldn’t be confident that what arrives at your door will look quite as advertised.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2026 14:50

Sorry, Op, but I don’t like it at all. Agree with PP that it looks very old fashioned.

purplecorkheart · 23/02/2026 14:53

I like it. I love that color.

What would you suggest then?

What would you suggest then?

Probably a sack costing £750.

gototogo · 23/02/2026 14:58

I think it’s fine if op likes it, not everyone want to wear the clothes they push on higher fashion sites, it’s fine for both occasions. Some of the sack like dresses people suggest (with £500 price tag) I think are terrible but we all have different tastes

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2026 15:01

I don’t like the sack dresses either.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 23/02/2026 15:05

I think it looks really lovely

TheGoddessAthena · 23/02/2026 15:07

OP clearly asks "is this dress OK". She means is it appropriate, is it fitting for the occasion and will it do for both a wedding and a christening. The answer to that question is a resounding yes. It's an appropriate colour, it's not horrendously revealing, skin tight or anything else which might raise eyebrows with the vicar or older relatives, it's not bank breakingly expensive, the floral panels break up the colour and are perfect for spring.

Whether individual posters LIKE the dress is neither here not there. It is not me, or you going to the events. It is the OP. What YOU (generic you) would wear is entirely irrelevant.

Ohhhthedrama · 23/02/2026 15:37

It's definitely suitable for either / both events. I do agree it's a little dated but that's just down to personal preference. I've never ordered from JJ's but I've looked a few times. From the Reddit sub YMMV when it comes to quality and sizing.

And my opinion is that it is NOT okay, because it is not very nice and is very old fashioned. The OP can wear what she wants, but others are allowed to have contrasting opinions.

SurpriseSparDay · 23/02/2026 15:59

No, @TheGoddessAthena - the OP has asked for opinions on a Style and Beauty board. If she simply wanted to know if it was appropriate she could ask ChatGPT. I am assuming she wants to know what other people think of the dress.

(I personally don’t give a toss for the collective S&B opinion on my wardrobe choices. So I never feel the need to ask here. If I did, I would expect more than a computer printout on the constituents of the garment in question.)

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/02/2026 16:03

To me it's old fashioned and very mother-of-the-bride. But it is suitable for a wedding and a christening

DappledThings · 23/02/2026 16:14

It's nice. I have no idea if it's old-fashioned, looks pretty timeless to me but I know fuck all about fashion.

Might be a bit too dressed up for a christening, certainly more dressy than I would be (or was for my own DC's christenings but not drastically so. Perfect for a wedding.

DramaAlpaca · 23/02/2026 16:14

Yes, it's suitable for a wedding and a formal christening.

PregnantPumpkin · 23/02/2026 18:15

Ooh I don't want to look old fashioned or like the mother of the bride, I'm only 32 and I think the bride is 30!

All christenings I’ve ever attended the clothing style has been similar to weddings so I think it’s perfect for both
