Is this dress ok for a March Christening and May wedding

Just that really, do you think this dress is ok for a Christening in a few weeks and a wedding at the end of May?
I'm not quite 3 months post partum yet so like that it's a bit flowy and got some extra material around the stomach area.
Opinions please 😊

Sensible options:

Buy something good that can be incorporated into your wardrobe.

Rent something amazing that you wouldn’t be able to afford to buy.

What’s your maximum budget?

Ooh I don't want to look old fashioned or like the mother of the bride, I'm only 32 and I think the bride is 30!

My SIL would wear something like FCUK or jigsaw, whistles, her SIL would go for Zara.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 23/02/2026 19:00

SIL is 41, her SIL 39.

For a similar price to that dress, this is the sort of outfit (co-ord set) I’d expect to see at a wedding or christening - possibly with some sort of outerwear. And probably flat shoes for the christening.

(I am not saying this is the only possible outfit, just the first I saw in the new collection. I know some S&B posters can be staggeringly literal.) I know in the past couple of months friends of mine have found Mango the least disappointing of the High St brands.

holycrapballs · 23/02/2026 19:38

I don’t love it and it’s not my style but it is appropriate for the wedding, Maybe a little overdressed for a christening but depends on the crowd.

It’s very cheap though and I don’t think that seller has a very good reputation for quality.

If you say what you want and your budget, I’m sure people will find other options if you want.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 23/02/2026 19:40

That’s nice but I don’t consider it high fashion either.

Then keep looking. I know this will sound ageist but I’d think of my mum and my aunties choosing something like that.

PourUsAGlass · 23/02/2026 19:43

Beautiful dress, gorgeous colour 😍

Stickytoffeetartt · 23/02/2026 19:48

Gorgeous dress, love it! Perfect for both.

SurpriseSparDay · 23/02/2026 19:57

@holycrapballs I’m twice the OP’s age - and Hell would freeze over before I would consider such a dress. My DM wouldn’t have worn it in her nineties, either. I can assure you one does not lose all discernment as one gains in maturity …

It is cheap and I've only heard of the website recently, not bought from there before so not sure how true to the image the dress would actually be.
If people want to suggest dresses then I'm looking for something not too revealing, I'm a size 14, 5 foot 5, big boobs, so would like something with a bit of extra material round the stomach area and not too much cleavage on show for in church, also not something too long. I'm 11 weeks post partum so something skin tight is a no!! I'm a natural redhead and very pale so not keen on wearing yellow, orange or red. Greens and blues suit me more and I like floral patterns.
Budget is around £50, please don't tell me I'll need to spend a lot more to get something decent because I'm not going to for something I'll probably only wear twice as hopefully will lose more baby weight by the next occasion.

Vinted? The search function isn't great but there are thousands of dresses on there, you can filter by BNWT if you don't want second hand.

Bonus points if it's also suitable for my graduation ceremony in July 😂I'm really going to get my money's worth out of this dress!

Yeah I get that, I really do! My mum would have worn it though and I definitely wouldn’t and don’t think any of my friends of varying ages would.

It does look like a lot of the dresses suggested for MOB etc a good while ago.

I’d try somewhere that does good sales like ASOS or look for discount codes. I will have a look myself but I am rubbish at finding clothes.

It’s not the price but the quality will be shit. I wouldn’t want to spend much more than that either if it’s not something I’ll get wear out of.

In this case, you’d be better going for something plain that you can adapt with different accessories.

Lindy2 · 23/02/2026 20:46

I like it. To me it's much nicer than the so called "more modern" rather shapeless dresses.

I think it's elegant and the cut looks very flattering.

I don't look good in pastel colours so the colour wouldn't suit me but I think it's a pretty shade. I think it would look good for all 3 of your special events.

PhaedraWas · 23/02/2026 20:50

I thought Remus and SparDay were being unnecessarily harsh but looking at it again it's too sparkly and fussy for the christening and more importantly JJ's House isn't a brand I'd ever recommend to anyone for anything.

What about Zara?

The "trench dress" looks very plain but is beautifully constructed and you could dress it up with lots of bracelets and big earrings. It would do for graduation also.

Viviennemary · 23/02/2026 20:51

I've worn two bridesmaid dresses from JJs house and the quality was excellent, I ended up ordering my bridesmaids' from there too. If you can go for their made to measure service it's spot on.

YourSassyPanda · 23/02/2026 21:00

Very pretty and Spring appropriate!
