Just that really, do you think this dress is ok for a Christening in a few weeks and a wedding at the end of May?
I'm not quite 3 months post partum yet so like that it's a bit flowy and got some extra material around the stomach area.
Opinions please 😊

You are 30?!? Please, no! (And I was one of the earlier posters who agreed this was completely appropriate).
If you like a "pretty" style, which this has, perhaps look for something from Needle and Thread on Vinted. Or go for something more contemporary from somewhere like Me and Em.

Probably a sack costing £750.

Can the sack be the same colour as the Angel of the North please, and be modelled by a Victorian prison warden? Joy is so 2023.

Ok is this any better? I do like Lipsy stuff and used to wear it quite a lot although nowadays I'm usually in wellies, leggings and a rain coat 😂 I really like 60's style clothing and decor so perhaps subconsciously that's why I was drawn to that original dress as apparently it's old fashioned 😂

That isn't better.

Do you already own this? It’s still a bit dated imo but it’s an improvement on the original. It could work for a wedding.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2026 23:08

If you don’t already own it, I think you could do better.

Screamingabdabz · 23/02/2026 23:09

I wonder how many people commenting on it being appropriate for a christening actually go to church? You would stick out like you were wearing fancy dress if you went into church like that. March can also be bitter cold. A day dress with cardi or even trousers and nice top is fine. Many at church may just be wearing jeans.

For the wedding, your second suggestion is lovely.

patooties · 23/02/2026 23:20

I don’t like the peppermint colour. I also think it’s too cheap to be decent quality.
are you godmother?

No just a guest.
Sorry but I really don't like any of the suggestions so far 😬
The second dress was something I saw on vinted.. I'll leave it there 🙈
How about this??

Much better for the wedding. So far as the christening, are the parents expecting guests to dress up?

I don't go to many christenings but the ones I've been at were normal clothes.

For a graduation, I expect things have changed but my graduation required a black or dark dress or a black or dark skirt and white blouse.

That Next dress is better but why are you looking at sites like JJ'S House and Next?

SophiaSW1 · 24/02/2026 00:15

If you love it then wear it that’s my main view. My first impression is it’s like a mother of the bride dress. It could also be way too hot to wear in May if recent years are to go by.

Why should she not look at next? I like that dress btw OP.
it wouldn’t suit me but if you like it abc its within budget then get it. It would work well for either event.

mathanxiety · 24/02/2026 03:33

It's very mother of the groom imo.

theculture · 24/02/2026 03:36

I like the blue next dress 😊

mathanxiety · 24/02/2026 03:39

PhaedraWas · 23/02/2026 20:57

It is ageist.

Well I'm 61 and I wouldn't wear it because I don't want to look like my mum or my aunts back in 1979.

Daffodilstime · 24/02/2026 04:19

I agree it’s old-fashioned. I am 60 and would never wear it.

falalalaa · 24/02/2026 04:20

Its lovely

AnnaQuayRules · 24/02/2026 04:26

OP, all those dresses are far too dressy for a christening. Most people don't dress up to go to church. I wear jeans most Sundays, as do 90% of the congregation.

I'm afraid I agree with everyone else about the first dress looking very dated for a 30 year old. I like the last one you posted. Its much more suitable

Empress13 · 24/02/2026 04:58

I like it but ….. don’t be surprised if it doesn’t look like the picture when it arrives. Seems quite cheap for such a dress

SurpriseSparDay · 24/02/2026 05:12

@PregnantPumpkin - I have to agree with @PhaedraWas in asking why are you looking at those shops?

Do you never look anywhere contemporary or fashionable? (I have the impression, from MN, that people who buy most of their clothes from Next do so for logistical convenience rather than any great love for the clothes available.) And shopping from Vinted is 100% better if you already have some idea of what looks current and stylish.

Why not spend some time on the websites of places like:

& Other Stories
Cos
Damson Madder
Ganni
Mango
Massimo Dutti
Palava (wildcard but who knows?)
Zara

for a little more inspiration - and then go back to Vinted armed with a fresh eye?

Stickytoffeetartt · 24/02/2026 05:48

Why don't you order the two dresses and see if you like one of them, or both? And then decide 😊

SurpriseSparDay · 24/02/2026 05:54

Can you / do you wear black, @PregnantPumpkin?

PregnantPumpkin · 24/02/2026 06:41

I'm sorry but are people actually wearing these things?
I think I'll stick to next, it's definitely not high fashion but it looks better than this stuff 🤨

I like black but I don't think I can wear it to a summer wedding really even with bright accessories. I'll be in the family photos so don't want to stick out

Just chipping in to say my friends and family do dress up for christenings, so it depends on what's normal for you.
